Welcome to Heavenly Haven
A family friend introduced us to Craig Creek in the spring of 2007. We were instantly enamored by the clean water and beautiful mountain views. The creek is perfect for tubing, canoing, and fishing. The surrounding Jefferson National forest offers some of the best hiking and hunting in the area.
A week’s vacation at Craig Creek in the summer of 2007 cemented our love for the area and we began to look for a place to call our own. As we began our search we learned that property on the creek is rarely sold, and is often passed from one generation to the next. We had almost abandoned the idea when we happened upon the find of a lifetime……our Heavenly Haven.
In 1997 a local attorney purchased the 1.3 acre creek-front lot near Oriskany, Virginia with the intent to build a fishing and hunting “getaway”. In 2000, he commissioned Mennonite carpenters to construct the unique cedar cabin and adjacent 10' x 20' barn from Southern Living’s “Deer Run” design.
The beautifully detailed interior features tongue-and-groove knotty wood pine. Craftsmanship, attention to detail, and quality materials; all trademarks of the Mennonite builder; are abundant throughout.
The dining area features seating for 6 at a wonderful table hand crafted on the property. 2 large windows provide scenery while you dine. A deer antler chandelier, with dimmer, sets the mood for family meals or romantic dinners.
The master bedroom features an inviting king size oak bed with comfortable memory foam mattress. The bed is adorned with high quality linens, perfectly suited to the country setting. Two large windows provide plenty of natural sunlight and scenic views of the surrounding forestry. The ceiling fan, candles, and overhead dimmer allow you to set temperature and lighting perfectly for your comfort and mood. A full bath, with enclosed shower and tub is conveniently located next to the master bedroom.
The centerpiece of the great room is a breathtaking stone fireplace which extends from the floor to the 20 ft cathedral ceiling. A lush queen size sleeper sofa, antique cedar chest, and oversize chairs make this room an inviting place to enjoy conversation and a book or DVD from our library by the fire. The ceiling fan and overhead lighting allow you to create the perfect atmosphere for relaxation.
The fully equipped kitchen contains everything you’ll need to cook a gourmet meal, or simply heat up a pizza. Electric stove and oven, microwave, toaster oven, coffee maker, pots and pans, crock-pot, dishes, utensils, and spices are provided. A large window over the kitchen sink provides views of the creek while you cook or socialize.
At the top of the solid pine staircase is the sleeping loft. In the loft you’ll find two comfy double size log beds and a set bunk beds. The bottom bunk has a full size mattress, and can sleep 2. The top bunk has a double mattress and sports views of the creek through the adjacent window. A collection of toys, games, children’s videos, and a VCR are available for your use. 2 large windows provide lots of sunlight and gorgeous views.

Thank you so much for a wonderful stay at your cabin. We enjoyed ourselves
very much. The cabin has a very homey feel to it. We loved the fires, comfy
couches, and beautiful decor. It was the perfect way to bring in the new year.
We will definitely pass the word along to our friends and family. Thanks again
for allowing us to have such an enjoyable new year!

Happy New Year!
Loved our stay in this cozy cabin! Had an infant with us, four adults, and two dogs. The layout worked well for us. Loved hiking in the nearby national forest, and enjoyed the fire pit and the ample supply of wood and fallen branches to keep it going. Coffee on the screened porch in the chilly morning was a great treat for all of us, and captivated our 8 month old. It also made a great staging for cleaning, drying, and feeding our dogs before we allowed them back into the cabin--especially, after they had been romping in the creek! The kitchen is well stocked, and though on the small side, it has everything needed for meal preparations. All of us love to cook meals together, so it got great use from us. We brought our food with us, but there is a small grocery about 15 minutes away, and a larger Kroger within 30 minutes over the mountains. We ultimately made both of these grocery runs when we ran out of a few things, but enjoyed both trips with the beautiful winter countryside to enjoy. The owners kindly accommodated us with a bit of an early check in due to the baby needing his nap. All of us very much appreciated this thoughtfulness. It would be wonderful to stay in this charming place during many times of the year--fall with the leaves changing, or summer when all the trees are green! Hope we make it back to see for ourselves! Suggestions for the owners: a sign on the road that you can see from whichever way you come in, a good knife sharpener, a few more wine glasses, and maybe the missing post for the horseshoe pit?
I couldn't have asked for a more perfect place for Christmas! The cabin and area is so beautiful. The cabin was warm and cozy, al the amenities you need and the river in the back topped off the perfect getaway. We will be back!
My wife and I stayed in Heavenly Haven Cabin for 5 days and nights and it was all we had anticipated and more! We felt relaxed in the homey atmosphere from day one and the cabin had all the basics comfort. The creek and the view beyond was serene and beautiful with the colors of fall all around us. We enjoyed exploring the back roads up and down some gorgeous hills and mountains and were happy to not have all the traffic you get on the Parkway this time of year. Did some hiking, had family members visit from Roanoke and Fincastle, relaxed with evening fires in the outside fire pit and indoor fireplace, there was even the sounds of the whitewater in the creek to top off the atmosphere! There is one big down side to staying here - eventually you have to leave! Highly recommend this property.
This was the second time that we stayed here and we love it! Tucked away in the woods by a creek, it is so relaxing. We enjoyed campfires at night and hiking during the day. The cabin is very clean, quaint, and comfortable. The owners keep it well stocked that if you forget something to cook with, it is probably there. We will stay there again.
My husband and I came across this place because we wanted to rent a cabin for the weekend to go hiking and escape from Richmond, VA. I have to say that this place was AMAZING and just beautiful inside out. I really want to see what this place is like during the summer and winter, I can only imagine a very beautiful scenery. This place is fully stocked and is so homey that you can only but enjoy this place. I would highly suggest that if you do not want to go to the market to FULLY stock up on your groceries. The closest market is probably about 10 miles away from there.
The place has a beautiful creek in the back where we did some kayaking, and there are a few hiking trails around the location at well. Our favorite was the Roaring Run trail and Hoop Hole. We ended up seeing a black bear during the Hoop Hole trail. Craigs Creek ended up being a crazy mess, but we eventually found our way back.
Anyways, this place is just gorgeous and we got to use their fire place. Very easy instructions, great "how to do" book, awesome guest check in book (which we saw that ED HATCH is in there too!!!), and everything worked wonderfully. My husband and I will be making a trip back here in the future. Highly recommend!
My family thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this cabin! It had all of the comforts of home. The kids were able to adventure and the adults were able to relax. We were impressed with the cleanliness as well as the quantity and quality of all of the supplies and amenities furnished. It is way off the beaten path. You have to drive up the mountain and back down again to get to this cabin which is located in the valley. A small town with a nice grocery store is only 15 minutes away. Quaint restaurants are nearby also. Would highly recommend it!
