I have lived in Somerset all my life. I am passionate about the Somerset Levels as an area of outstanding natural beauty with a rich history. In 2013 I was granted permission to convert the shed into a holiday cottage which would be built on one storey and therefore accessible to those with disabilities. This was something I felt particularly passionate about as a Gurkha officer who has served in Afghanistan and known a number of wounded soldiers.
Why Owner chose Muchelney
The concept of Woodsfield Barn was always to build somewhere which would be welcoming and peaceful - a place where people can enjoy this stunning countryside.

A little gem
A lovely barn conversion on the Somerset Levels. Cosy with everything you need. Spacious double bedded bedroom. Lovely shower room with large fluffy towels. The kitchen/dining/ lounge takes up the rest of the barn. The fully equipped kitchen is of a high standard with views of the Abbey. Lounge area has a TV and DVD player. Very peaceful location surrounded wildlife and far reaching views through the large patio windows that fully open for the milder weather. The barn owl at dawn and dusk was a treat. We took 2 dogs, there was plenty of room for them in the barn. There is a patio with table and chairs and a large grass area to exercise dogs. The barn is in its own grounds secured by gates. Be aware there is a wire fence to an adjoining field with sheep at various times. We would recommend the local pubs, we found the food to be of a high standard and reasonably priced. A wonderful place to get away from it all. You can walk for miles along the river with access within half a mile of the barn.
Comfortable Country Retreat Overlooking The Somerset Commons
Lovely well looked after property with space around us. All very comfortable and just what we needed as we toured Somerset cideries. The owner provided excellent selections on local eateries and we had a delicious breakfast at Brown & Forrest Smokery followed by a stop at Burrow Hill cidery. We also visited Wilkins and Bere cideries, which were a short drive away.
The kitchen was very functional and we cooked in most nights. Even the knifes were sharp. The town of Langport provided all of the needed services, butcher, baker and Tesco for incidentals.
This was a wonderful stay for us with all of the comforts of home. I highly recommend this property.
A truly beautiful quaint location.
A delightful place to stay and explore the Somerset levels. Perfect if you have dogs as there are 2 fields for them to run around and plenty of walk to go on especially the old railway line into Langport. Accomadation was light and spacious which was well equipped and a nice wet room which was ideal after a long country walk.
A little piece of heaven
Beautifully equipped and furnished, incredibly cosy and comfortable, light and airy, and so much more than I expected. The views across the wide open landscape was so relaxing, as was the fact that all you could hear were birds and sheep. It was so wonderful that there wasn't the need to go far afield, but enjoy the tranquility of such a fabulous location. The dogs loved having the paddock to play in, and also the abundance of easily accessible footpaths. The village is stunningly beautiful, with Muchelney Abbey and church viewable across the fields from the barn. I would definitely love to stay here again, and would certainly recommend it.
Lovely peaceful setting
Hard to believe that this was once a sheep shed. Comfortable, cosy and deceptively spacious. We took our 2 black Labradors, they loved having the field to run in, home away from home. We didn't feel that anything was missing. A nice bottle of wine and some delicious cake was waiting for us on arrival - thank you for a lovely stay.
