|Minimum Stay||5 nights|
Lake Midway is on the scenic drive which leads to Long and Brier Islands in the Bay of Fundy and is 15 minutes from the picturesque fishing port and county town of Digby, Nova Scotia.
The most attractive feature are the extensive private gardens and wooded areas. The property is just under 4 acres in size. The lawns are well cared for and the woods are thinned to allow walking in a park-like environment. Wildlife is attracted to the garden, including white tailed deer and numerous other birds and animals.
The house has high speed internet, a smart TV, VCR, DVD, films, books and games, a telephone, well equipped kitchen, washing machine & dryer, a hair dryer, hot water, wood for a fire, full bath with shower and half bath downstairs, high chair, garden toys and a bike.
It has 3 bedrooms, one with a double and one with a queen sized bed. The children's room sleeps 2 plus a baby (in a crib.)
Its own lake frontage is ideal for swimming or you can fish for trout and bass. Garden furniture, a gas bar-b-q, sun beds and a bicycle are provided and there are no immediate neighbors.
Sandy Cove is 15 minutes away and the cottage is particularly well positioned for whale watching trips, bird watching, sea fishing, geology (for rock hounds), and country walks
Our traditional early 19th century home with modern additions is available for your vacation in Nova Scotia, Canada.
It is less than a mile from the Bay of Fundy's numerous coves and beaches and has stunning views over spring fed Lake Midway. The property adjoins Lake Midway Provincial Park which has wash rooms, picnic and changing facilities only two minutes on foot from the cottage.
We are near to whale watching and pleasure fishing craft as well as lighthouses and seal colonies in the Bay of Fundy.
Getting there: A trip to Nova Scotia by Catamaran from Maine in the USA to Yarmouth NS or from Quebec and Ontario via New Brunswick by ferry straight into Digby, the nearest town to Lake Midway. Flights to Canada from the U.S. take less than one and a half hours and from the U.K. and Europe can take less than five hours. Halifax Airport is less than a three hour drive away from the cottage.
A video of the home is on YouTube 'Innisfree Cottage Lake Midway' and the owner has also uploaded other Nova Scotia videos to his YouTube channel.
When hiring your car, be sure to get cruise control for the long stretches of well maintained and extremely quiet roads. In the summer you will also appreciate air conditioning in your vehicle, as the temperatures can get well into the 80s.
Wildlife: At Innisfree cottage, you will find nature at its finest and most exciting. Nova Scotia is a wild and friendly place which can be enjoyed from the comfort of our well equipped and cozy country cottage home.
Don't forget to feed the local resident Chipmunks, Blue Jays, Squirrels and Hummingbirds. There is normally some bird food in the cottage and we provide a hummingbird feeder.
You are likely to see rabbits, pheasants, chipmunks and squirrels in the garden. In the woods at the back of the cottage, evidence of white tailed deer can be seen. American finches, robins and blue jays feed from the bird feeders and a brilliant red flash means a cardinal is around. Turkey vultures and, if you are lucky, a bald eagle sometimes ride the thermals overhead. In summer, the hummingbirds have a feast on the nectar from the touch-me-not flowers having followed the sun from Mexico arriving in May.
The cottage is used by the owners for their own vacations and is therefore equipped to a high standard.
Please remember that this is an old country property and sometimes a mouse or squirrel may gain access to the wall voids, so you may occasionally hear the sounds of these unwelcome visitors. There are also insects in the garden, so it pays to keep the doors covered by insect screens behind you when you are passing in and out of the garden. We do all we can to keep the house sealed from the nature which surrounds it, but it can be an almost impossible task. If you are squeamish about such matters, this may not be the property for you. However, if you do encounter any problems, we can normally quickly sort them out.
We live in the U.K. and love to come to Canada where the pace of life is so much slower and allows us to enjoy a break close to nature.
Melvyn F. Oarton purchased this house in 2003
It is in a beautiful setting and is peaceful, quiet and secluded but not remote. In 2017 we will have owned the property for 14 years and never tire of its charms. The Nova Scotian's we have got to know over the years are friendly and welcoming to visitors. The name Innisfree comes from a poem by the Irish poet William Butler Yates called 'Lake Isle of Innisfree', the words of which remind us of the house.
Swimming and playing in the lake in summer is a very special treat. The hummingbirds offer endless entertainment and whale watching is a delight.
Beautiful place to stay, room for plenty. The lake water only steps from the cottage and beaches near by are excellent! I highly recommend this house/cottage!
Older home, but extremely clean and well kept. Beautiful grounds - private and quiet. Perfect location, especially for those who enjoy the outdoors. Close to Brier's Island where I ended up spending 3 days because of the beauty, solitude, and birds. House is across the street from a swimming lake also which makes it especially nice.
Quaint cottage with all the needed amenities, right across the road from Midway Lake. Nice grounds + view in a quiet location. A great little getaway. Owner is very attentive, everything is exactly as represented. Digby has great seafood restaurants too! Avid cyclists, we rode down to Brier Island & back during our stay (~90km loop, some hills, cyclocross recommended). I recommend Innisfree for your Nova Scotia vacation!
We have just returned from our epic trip to Nova Scotia and were just saying to each other yesterday that we were happier at this little cottage in Digby than any vacation spot in years and years. We have small kids and two medium dogs and we just loved this house. It was convenient to the lake, perfect for sitting outside in the warm afternoon, and easy to manage with two kids. Melvyn and Denise were responsive to our few questions and the caretaker even came by the check that we were doing well. This house is a little piece of heaven!
We had a great week at the cottage. It was well appointed with everything needed for a comfortable stay. The beds were all very comfortable and it was nice and quiet. Great location for day trips - went whale watching, toured the islands, visited Digby, Annapolis Royal and Yarmouth. Would recommend this as a great place to relax.
Our family vacation at Innisfree was a very relaxing, enjoyable vacation. The owners of the property were very helpful providing everything that was needed. From a large property, scenic views, peace and quiet. There were many things for the family to do from going to the picnic park and swimming area across the road and driving to the many wonderful activities that Digby, Nova Scotia has to offer. Sandy Cove Beach was excellent and one day we would hope to return to go on a whale tour.

My Standard Rate
5 night minimum stay

We do allow bookings of less than 5 nights, but the full five night rate of $675 would have to be paid. Guests wishing to stay less than five nights would therefore probably be better off booking other accommodation, such as Seawinds Motel, which is in a nice spot, overlooking Digby Harbour.
* Approximate monthly rate. Actual rate will depend on the days of the month you stay.
The property is in an elevated position overlooking Lake Midway, which is a fresh water lake and is itself elevated above the ocean. Please see the links tab.
Digby Neck is an unusual piece of land, extending as it does and including the islands, almost forty miles into the Atlantic Ocean. The cottage is however in a sheltered and rural position and it is only once you venture a few minutes from the cottage by road, that is is apparent that the cottage is so near the ocean and the Bay of Fundy, being approximately one mile from both the north and south shores of the peninsular.
Further down the peninsular, an inexpensive ferry service operates 365 days a year to and from Long Island and Brier island, where you can pick up a whale watching boat which will take you out onto some of the most ecologically rich parts of the world's oceans.
Other Activities: Whale watching, and fishing, sea fishing, deep sea fishing, your own private access to Lake Midway for swimming, walking, beach combing, cycling (we provide a bicycle), bird watching (hummingbirds are especially charming).
The house is also packed with lots of fun things to do, such as board games, videos, DVDs, a smart TV, high speed internet access, children's toys and of course, it has magnificent views.
Innisfree is a nature lover's paradise and the owners particularly enjoy photographing and videoing the many natural visitors to the garden and woods, including the elusive white tailed deer. The fully equipped kitchen means that you can do more than just holiday cooking with equipment which will enable you to do such things as jam and bread making.
Please help yourself to the fruit in the garden. Innisfree is not just a holiday home, it is your very own country home from home.
