Kapakai, Stunning Coastline Views of Poipu Beach, sleeps 6-8 guests
3 Bedroom Graceful Hawaiian Vacation Home
Managed by Juliana Cherry of Ala Muku Vacation Rentals
Kapakai - Hawaiian for "coastline", or "the water's edge" - you will understand this home's given name when you take in the stunning view of the Poipu coastline from the upper deck. This hale is a fantastic base to enjoy and explore the beauty, activities and natural wonders of Kauai. Located on a small hill in a quiet residential neighborhood, this home is a short walk to Poipu Beach Park and Brennecke Beach.
Step into the Spirit of Old Hawaii surrounded by colorful artwork and distinctive island furnishings. The living areas unfold with a comfortable breezy living room ... to the dining space with a massive round table ... to an intimate conversation seating area opening onto the expansive L-shaped covered lanai ... then one more adjacent family room space with ocean glimpses revealed through verdant foliage.
The galley kitchen with its practical and handsome finishes is a great platform for your culinary adventure. Many decorative plates, bowls and glassware provide for delightful table settings. Eat comfortably either inside, or out on the large protected lanai (with the BBQ).
Breathe in the beauty of the bright bougainvillea and the fragrant plumeria bordering the grassy yard which encircles this home. In a private corner you can soak in the hot tub spa after a day of hiking, rafting or biking.
The peak point of enjoyment is the upper deck with its splendid, expansive view of the coastline, highlighting Brennecke and Poipu beaches. As the sun sets, this western view is a delight to enjoy the last rays from a memorable day in the comfortable lounge chair seating, or at the nearby table over pupus (hors d'oevres) and beverages.
The master suite on the ocean side has a queen bed and features TV/DVD viewing. The master bath shower, floors and vanity are tiled in decorative travertine stone tiles.
The guest bedroom wing of the home features a king poster bed in one room and twin beds in the other. Both rooms offer TV/DVD viewing options. Both rooms share a "Jack and Jill" bath with fun, cobalt blue tiles at the shower and vanity.
Pack up the beach equipment including mats, chairs, cooler, sand toys and have a great day at the beach. Poipu Beach Park offers a large grassy area dotted with swaying coco palms. There are picnic tables, play equipment, showers, restrooms, even a convenience store and restaurant across the street.
Poipu Beach offers a sheltered cove called "Baby Beach" where toddlers play in the sand and splash in the shallow waters. A few steps away in the clear warm water, colorful tropical fish swim beneath as you snorkel just feet from the shore. The calm waters and gentle waves are enjoyed by swimmers of all capabilities. Experienced surfers can catch large-breaking waves further out beyond the reef. Brennecke Beach, at the east end of the park, is renowned for body surfing and boogie boarding.
If you bring your camera you may be able to capture on film a Monk Seal sleeping off a meal on the beach. Seals are protected so don't approach too closely. Within a 2 mile radius of the house you will find two golf courses, some of Kauai's finest restaurants and charming island boutiques. When you venture beyond Poipu you will find a virtual paradise of actvities: helicopter tours, horseback riding, river and ocean kayaking, whale-watching, botanical garden tours and much more, including many popular natural attractions such as the Na Pali Coast;and Waimea Canyon (the Grand Canyon of the Pacific).
Juliana and Jim own 2 homes in Kauai and manage a number of other beautiful homes and condos. They began visiting the Garden Island in 1997 and now are permanent residents. Juliana is a licensed real estate broker in Hawaii. Her special enjoyment is gardening. She loves to share the many wonderful features of Kauai with her visitors, especially the great beauty of the local botanical gardens. Jim is a builder of many years and now enjoys semi-retirement while keeping his hands busy with the occasional remodel.
The house is beautiful and spacious, extremely well located, and a great value. Two kids, two parents, and two grandparents spent about nine days there, and loved every minute of it. The kitchen is well stocked, the grill and wraparound patio are great for outdoor dining. The rooftop patio is amazing for cocktails at sunset.
We'll come again—in fact, I'm remembering to write this review because we're coming again!
The house has a fabulous location. Close to the beach. Beautiful views of the ocean from the rooftop deck. The kitchen is well stocked with anything you could need. The overall house is very spacious (larger than we expected after viewing the online pictures). Our family included 3 generations and we all had ample space to spread out. Unfortunately the house does not have air conditioning. The trade winds were not blowing during our trip so we were toasty with only fans (and cold showers) to cool off.
The home is very lovely and well stocked. The landscaping is gorgeous with plumeria trees and tropical flowers in bloom everywhere. The first morning I walked out and picked a fresh bouquet! We visited with our married daughter and college aged twins. There are plenty of seating areas to enjoy conversations or relax and read. The beach is a short walk down the road where we enjoyed swimming, surfing and saw 3 Hawaiin Monk seals! There is plenty of seating on the lanai to enjoy outdoor meals or to lounge and read a book. We had a wonderful time.
We stayed here in beautiful Poipu from May 1 through May 9, 2016, and just wanted to thank Jim and Juliana Cherry so much for the use of the gorgeous hana here in Kauai. There were a total of six of us, my husband and myself, my adult son and his wife, and our two grandchildren ages 4 and 18 months. The house is set up so that everyone has a cozy spot to call their own. There were TVs in all the bedrooms and also in the living room and family room. No worries about deciding which program to watch! The fully stocked kitchen made it easy for us to prepare simple meals for the kids and we even ate dinner here once or twice. But mostly we explored the fantastic island of Kauai and sampled the many delicious local places for meals.
The weather was fantastic when we visited with intermittent rain and sunshine, just like we remembered from our previous Hawaii trip. We remembered that the people of Kauai are super friendly but they seemed even more so this trip. Every visit we say we would love to live here and it is always something we think about. The lifestyle, weather, beautiful scenery, and delicious food make it hard to come back home to California!
You should choose this home for your next vacation if you want something very close to the ocean (we were literally a 3 minute walk to the nearest beach) and very comfortable. The two well-appointed bathrooms we great for everyone except me...since I have severe arthritis in my knee it made it tough to get in and out because both bathrooms have very nice step down showers with lovely tile work. Had it been only a few inches it would have been perfect even for me with my gimpy knee, but unfortunately for me they were about 18 inches of "step down" and it was super hard for me to do safely. There is an outside shower which is a perfect alternative to the inside showers as long as you keep your bathing suit ON. :)
Other amenities which we truly appreciated were the supply of beach chairs, boogie boards, beach towels, and a handy cooler to use for the many beach trips we went on. My granddaughter tried boogie boarding for the first time and love it so much!
The grounds of the house were fantastic as well with so many full grown plumeria trees fully in bloom and gorgeous. There are coconut trees and other assorted and beautiful tropical foliage that made the large yard a great place to hang out with the family. There is a hot tub in the back yard that is available but we never had time to use it, next time!!!
This home allows one to experience all the best of Kaui from your home. Tradewind breezes blow throughout the house. It felt like we were living outdoors, but protected. You can view sunsets, sunrises, rainbows and stars from the wonderful roof patio, and enjoy warm rains from the cozy covered Lanai. You will hear the birds while they dart in and out of the mature landscaped setting of the yard.
We especially enjoyed the many sitting and gathering areas this house presented for our adult family and the non cluttered decor.
We loved the outdoor shower. Everything needed to enjoy the beach and house was provided. Poi Pu beach just down the hill provides a very safe place to swim for all ages.
The house is situated in an area that is very accessible and easy if you like to run, or walk. There is a great trail system in the neighborhood. There are numerous choices for eating out within 1 to 2 miles if you prefer that.
This was our first trip to Kaui. We spent just a little time sightseeing, as we were content staying close to this home.
I was so pleased when we first walked into this home. We had six people and a baby and it was totally prepared for us including a baby bed. The home is beautifully decorated with large ceiling fans everywhere to take advantage of the ocean breezes and since it is an open concept there are several areas to hangout in. The home is updated and had everything we needed. Very nice dishes, appliances, pots and pans and everything else needed in the kitchen. We loved the outdoor areas which included a wrap around deck with lovely furniture to lounge, eat outside or play cards. The house is close to the beach but we always drove due to carrying so much. Very nice area of the island. Nice restaurants and shopping nearby. There are also plenty of parking and beach chairs. This place was everything I wanted.
Poipu beach as well as some of the other best beaches on the island are just walking distance. Great restaurants and shopping are a short drive away.
Other Activities: shopping, dining
