This three bedroom summer cottage is one of the few remaining authentic Vineyard 'camps'. It was built in the late 1930s and is on a former dairy farm which comprises hundreds of acres of spectacular land which has been protected by conservation easements due to its extraordinary beauty; Some is wooded, some cleared and it contains running streams and large ponds as well as trails and two piers on a mile of private beach facing Vineyard Sound. It is one of the most secluded and lovely spots that still exists on the Vineyard. The farm has been converted into a private corporation of year-round and summer residents.
The cottage is situated down a sandy road at the furthest edge of the farm. It has been recently and thoughtfully re-modelled and exudes the history that has made it a beloved family house for generations. This is the perfect spot for anyone who loves nature (the windswept beech trees, seagrass, dunes, flocks of Canadian geese, Osprey...) and who appreciates a sense of history. Ideal for an artist or writer or a family who wants to 'get away from it all'. Perfect for a 'romantic' week away. There is NO T.V.. It is on the water with access to the private beach (usually surf-free) via 75 yds. of wooded path. There are nearby piers for the kids to jump off or from which to fish, miles of trails to explore, croquet sets for the front lawn and tennis courts available (one is clay).
The cabin is built around a dramatic (unfortunately not functioning) fieldstone fireplace in the livingroom. It has three bedrooms and an indoor bath with shower as well as an outside shower. One bedroom is equipped with a kingsize bed; the 'bunkroom' has built-in bunks as well as a kingsize bed and the third bedroom has two built-in twin beds. A large outdoor deck has views of marvelous sunsets across the sound and over the Elizabeth Islands.
perfect place to retreat, relax and be creative in serene nature. beautiful views, a cozy cottage and private beach access with no passing traffic invite to recuperate and forget about time.
We have been staying at the bunkhouse on Seven Gates Farm for many years and it is one of our favorite places on earth. Sunsets over the ocean, short walk down your own private path to a private beach. Away from it all, 2 miles from the main street all the way down to the end of Seven Gates Farm. Comfortable family cottage with books, games, and a complete kitchen. Love the outdoor shower too. This is a three season cottage so if you're looking for a fancy home you've come to the wrong place. If you like the feel of a true cottage experience with history this is it. The owners are wonderful and helpful.
This will be the third year vacationing at this property. My husband and I are both self employed with two small children. It is the most relaxing time of the year for us. It is quiet and secluded, with a majestic pathway to the beach. This is the only place on earth where we can unplug from the world and enjoy our family without distractions.
The beds are comfortable and the kitchen is stocked with everything you could possibly need for cooking. You could stay for the entire week without having to go anywhere. There is also a grill on the back deck and Adirondack chairs to relax in. My daughter loves the swing overlooking the ocean, and my husband loves the hammock.
If you want a Vineyard Vacation with the option of getting away from the hustle and bustle of the downtown areas, this is your spot. We absolutely love it here and hope to return year after year.
The leasing process is a breeze and the owners are very personable and attentive to your needs and expectations.
This rustic camp has been our retreat over many years. This is one of the last standing camps off of North Road. It is what the vineyard used to be in so many way. First of all, it's easy. Wood floors, well equipped kitchen, cozy livingroom/diningroom, wonderful outdoor shower, beautiful views of the sound and a lovely wooded walk to your own private beach. Just writing this makes me long for our time there this summer. It's spacious enough to have your family and guests. Kids love it here. It's easy...very casual, and yet it has everything you need. Children can go to beach on their own and run and play and it's all so safe. It's a long and beautiful drive into this private cottage. Lovely lawn for play and a fabulous old wooden swing. We adore this cottage and hope it stays as it is for years to come! One can take long walks on beach to a fabulous dock where everyone has fun jumping and diving off. There are days we see no one on our beach walks. It is paradise. Private, quiet, tranquil and beyond beautiful. Added bonus--For folks who know the vineyard-- this cottage also offers private garbage pick up which saves the fun and sometimes hassle of rushing to the dump.
