About Rob & Sophie Sparks

We started bringing a small caravan to the area 9 years ago and discovered the beauty that is Herefordshire's border with Wales. Returning more and more frequently year on year, we soon realised that we would like to make a break from the busy south coast and move to the area. When the house first came on the market, it took us a while to view, due to other commitments, but as soon as we saw it, we knew we wanted to make it our home.

We moved in in Spring 2015, and started work straight away to bring the house and grounds back to its former glory. We have opened up some of the amazing views which can be seen from both the front and back gardens.

Our home is also home to a wide variety of animals including our pony, goat, dog, cat, chickens and ducks.

Why Rob & Sophie Sparks chose Hereford & Worcester

We fell in love with the property because of the way it is nestled on the hillside, with stunning views of the Black Mountains and the Cat's Back. The house is very spacious, and gives lovely views to the front across the hills and the balcony enables you to appreciate the amazing views to the mountains behind.

What makes this house unique

We feel that our house offers the chance for the guests to escape from the hustle and bustle of every day life, with the chance for some amazing adventures on our doorstep. There is very limited mobile phone coverage in the whole of the valley, allowing you to escape from everyday life (we do have wifi in the house).

The gardens can be enjoyed by guests (please be considerate of other guests) for you to bide away a sunny afternoon, overlooking the edge of the Black Mountains.

We recommend walking the mountains to fully appreciate the dramatic landscape and wonderful views, and there are many walks we can recommend for little feet, as we have young children ourselves. Otherwise, take to your car and explore the wider area; the towns of Abergavenny and Hay on Wye are a must, which host an array of shops. Hay on Wye is known as the Town of Books and annually hosts the Hay Festival. The local area boasts many local producers of food, perfect for gathering up throughout the day, before returning home to the large kitchen to sample, or alternatively head out to one of the many local pubs or restaurants offering a wide selection.

Peaceful and picturesque

  • 4 of 5

We were looking for a base to stay whilst we visited the Welsh National Eisteddfod in Abergavenny, and Upper Bryn proved to be ideal. It provided a very peaceful haven, which soon felt like home. The well equipped house is lovely and spacious, with gorgeous views over the surrounding countryside, and plenty of room for kids to roam about outside as well. Rob and Sophie were ideal hosts, welcoming but not intrusive. We very much enjoyed our stay.

A great place to relax and use as a base to tour the Welsh borders

  • 5 of 5

Upper Bryn is a very comfortable house with every available convenience. It is in a peaceful location situated within easy reach of the Black Mountains, Hereford, Hay on Wye etc. The owners made us very welcome and were very helpful with local advice. We would be very happy to recommend this property and its owners to others.
