Quiet Retreat

  • 4 of 5

We loved the log cabin house and the quiet surroundings. My husband loves to look at the stars at night and was there ever a show in the mountains away from the city lights. The house is wonderful and cozy for two people. The only draw back was little to no cell and internet service. That was great for me but my husband was going crazy. Can't get him disconnected from those annoying devices.

Absolutely dreamy!

  • 5 of 5

My boyfriend and I loved the house. It was exactly as described. We enjoyed the nicely equipped kitchen and the swing in the back. A highlight was watching a beautiful sunset with the view of the mountains sitting on the rocking chairs. Thanks!

Very relaxing atmosphere

  • 5 of 5

Two couples rented this property for a 4 night stay in September 2017. We found the directions to be very clear and accurate, property was just as described on line with VRBO; sturdy, well maintained structure, clean, with a breath taking view in the woods on a mountain. We saw some playful deer pass through on a daily basis. My personal favorite was sipping coffee while rocking on the porch, observing the beautiful, peaceful surroundings nature provides. We had one rainy day during our stay but the porch allowed a dry place to still observe the fresh outdoors without getting wet. It was awesome!

We had the opportunity of meeting the property manager that stopped by to be sure we had everything we needed. He was very personable and we enjoyed talking with him.

The only negative comment, which has no reflection of the property or property owners, is the lack of known restaurants in the area, other than fast food. Perhaps on our next visit we will consider cooking evening meals at the cabin and eating in.

Our stay at this property was all that was expected and more. We will certainly come again if our schedule permits. Thank you for the opportunity to book a stay in your beautiful "Reach the Heavens in Virginia" property. It is truly a "heavenly" place.

Beautiful Retreat in the Mountains - Aug 25, 2017

  • 5 of 5

We spent 5 nights at "Reach the Heavens" in South West Virginia. The cottage was beautifully maintained and though up some steep gravel roads, accessible without problem. The location, 5 miles north of Independence, VA, was quiet and secluded without feeling like you were in the middle of nowhere. The owner stated to not follow GPS as it takes you a bit too far up US 21, but Google maps brought us right to the door, even though I was prepared with written directions.

The views from the west facing full windows were beautiful, especially the sunsets. Every morning and most evenings we had deer in the yard. The cottage was well furnished and comfortable. Sleeping 6 comfortably and 8 with a sleeper sofa, it was more than plenty for the two of us. Water pressure for a well was fine and the water tasted great. Phone reception is very spotty (Verizon for us) and internet was a bit spotty - had to reboot the router a few times - but we can easily live with that and was not a deterrent in any way.

We spent hours on the porch in the rockers reading books and relaxing. Hiking is nearby at Greyson State Park and the New River state park located in Galax. If you are looking for fancy dining opportunities this is not the location for you. However, we cooked in most meals and grilled out one night and did just fine staying put. We ate a good lunch in Galax and enjoyed the sights.

Upscale cabin in the Virginia Highlands

  • 5 of 5

This cabin exceeded all our expectations. Beautifully built and decorated, it sits in a picturesque spot above a clearing where deer and wild turkeys wander before green mountains rising above. A cathedral ceiling supported by massive beams fills the cabin with light. Every need is supplied in a modern spotless kitchen. Best in class.
