We were there for 3 nights during which time we were looking at real estate in the area. The Hideout is very nice with a lot to do by all members of the family. This particular house is close to all the amenities available. The house is big with a huge kitchen and living area. Off the master bedroom is a small deck which was great for morning coffee. The hot tub was great to relax in at the end of a busy day. I would recommend this place to others.
Upon arrival house was clean and ready to go. There happened to be a few more things in the kitchen than anticipated (seasonings, saran wrap, etc) that was more than welcome. The kitchen is well laid out and works well for group cooking efforts. In terms of seating/relaxing, the house is very spacious and comfortable with a huge deck and plenty of seating as well as comfortable seating in the living room. The lower level is more utilitarian, but very functional with a private bedroom, bathroom, and a pool table. Over all, very nice.
A few drawbacks: the upper bunk bed in the upstairs bedroom is, simply put, not safe for use. The mattress is soft and flexible (which is fine, all things being equal) and is supported by only three or four slats, none of which support the lower part of the bed and only partially support the upper part. This is a safety issue that should be addressed--after a quick inspection, I refused to let my kids up there, much to their disappointment. Beyond a bit of wear and tear, scuffs and the occasional cracked trim piece, the only other stand out issue is that the hot tub cover is in need of replacement---it is water logged and, therefore, very heavy to the point that it is very difficult for one person to get it back in place (it also will not insulate at all well, owing to this).
Our family & kids went there for 1 week (9 people + baby), beautiful cottage, beautiful porch immediately off kitchen and living room (all 9 of us fit to eat) there is also a 4 season dining room off the kitchen we used that to eat when raining or play family card games.
5 minute walk to pool/lake/art center (paint, pottery glazing, small kids park outside).
The master bedroom has a queen bed, 2 of the kids slept there and I brought up one of the twin mattress from the main floor bdrm and slept on that right next to the queen bed against by the patio door (a/c in that rm & adjacent rm). Adjacent room 2 adults and 2 kids slept there + baby in play pen, adjacent rms share bathroom. Basement bedroom got a bit cold so they used the comforters from the 2 twin beds from the 1st floor. Basement has double door access to hot tub :) bathroom and laundry.
Wrote to owner quite a few times and he always answered me within 24-48 hours before our trip and within a few hours during our trip (free wifi at the house and at the lake).
It's a code to enter so we can all come and go, no need to worry about sharing keys.
Saw lots of deer close by and right across the street.
Beautiful yard to play scavenger hunt & water balloon with the kids.
There are only 2 beach chairs so bring your own.
WEIS food store 5 minutes away & liquor store (not open on Sundays) other than that no shopping but lots of relaxing! Living room has TV with cable & some dvd's & games.
At the lake you can rent canoes, pedal boats, tennis and there is a game room and a snack bar at the pool/lake (Tiki bar upstairs outside).
6 hour drive from Ottawa (Canada) picked up my sister at Barre Wilkes airport only 40 minutes away (be careful there are 2 WB airport) was able to drop off some stuff at the house on the covered balcony before check-in, cleaning crew was there super helpful & nice!
Saw previous comment about the staff at the front gate, we didn't have any problems at all they were very friendly, they joked around with my 8 year old daughter and we never had to call them during our stay (once I had an issue and I email the owner instead directly and he emailed me right away!).
Large fridge, wine fridge, lots of cupboard space, Keurig & regular drip coffee machine, toaster, microwave, gas stove & BBQ, 3 showers.
I definitely recommend this property on the Hideout because of how nice it is, the hot tub and because of the proximity to the lake/pool/art center.
It was very good it has everything you need to have a good time with friends and family.
House is nice and at good location but did not understood why beds n comforters were not clean. Did not expect that after paying nice price for 3 nights.
Our family stayed here over MLK weekend and had a fabulous time! The house is exactly as described: Spacious, clean, homey and fun. It is really less than a 5 minute walk to the ski mountain where they have a ski hill, snowboarding, snow tubing, ice skating and a small snack bar. If you do go skiing or snowboarding, get there early because it gets very crowded as the day goes on and all lessons fill up quick. The kitchen is full service and has everything you need. The bedrooms are spacious and clean and there are three very nice bathrooms. There are two very nice gas fireplaces and a great hot tub outside. I definitely plan on staying here again!
