Exquisite regional artwork, antiques, native rugs and artifacts adorn this warm, classic New Mexican adobe home that reveals breathtaking views of the Jemez and Sangre de Christo mountain ranges throughout the house. Built in harmony with the foothills, the home includes multiple living areas, an upper master suite with sunroom, office and jaccuzi, a main level suite with 2 beds (king and double), and a secluded lower level queen suite. New central heat and air installed in 2016. Radiant in-floor heat, five Kiva fireplaces. Our gated home is located at the end of a short driveway with very private and beautifully landscaped walking trails, multiple patios and 4 decks, all on 5 acres.
PRIMARY LIVING AREA:
The main living area is comprised of two large yet cozy rooms, both with large windows and gorgeous views, that share a wrap-around kiva fireplace. Comfortable leather sofas and easy chairs, a grand piano, and a 55” LG flatscreen TV and entertainment center, make this part of the house a wonderful secluded gathering place away from the bedrooms.
DINING & COOKING:
The heavy wooden dining table seating six to eight people, separates the kitchen from yet another sunken living area with fireplace, a large day bed and comfortable seating. You’ll find plenty of dishes, flatware and serving pieces, mugs, bowls and glasses, all indigenous to the area. The galley kitchen has tiled countertops, pots and pans hanging from the ceiling, and of all the amenities a person who loves cooking would want.
Master Bedroom: A grand artisan staircase leads from the living areas to a room with spectacular views. Large individual windows wrap around a king size bed that looks on to a kiva fireplace and master jacuzzi bath with picture-window. The large cushioned built-in bench with table and 2 chairs overlooking the Jemez Mountains, makes it the perfect place for breakfast or coffee indoors. As well, this bedroom has private access to the office and sunroom which offer more spectacular views, a large daybed and rollaway.
Main Level Bedroom: Situated on the main floor off the dining room, this bedroom suite has a king bed, kiva fireplace and large flatscreen TV with sitting area. Large windows that surround the bed afford wonderful views of the Sangre de Christo mountains to the east. A half-wall separates an additional double bed from the rest of the suite. The chess table and chairs looking onto the private porch complete the room.
Lower Level Bedroom: Located downstairs, this queen bed and large shower with bench offer extreme privacy from the rest of the house with it’s own private porch area.
Sunken Room: Located off the dining room on the main floor is a large daybed and fireplace.
Upper Level: Off the upper master suite, you’ll find a small patio with a table for 2, perfect for coffee. From there, stairs lead to the rooftop deck. Once there you will experience the magic of a 360º degree view spanning 4 mountain ranges. Our home is just far enough away from the city lights to experience the majesty of the universe after dark, as well as a full view of Los Alamos. Comfortable folding chairs and a warm chiminea complete the experience.
Main Level: (1) Outside the entertainment living room is a large deck that leads to a huge open fireplace. Plenty of seating, a dining table with umbrella, two grills and views facing west make this a wonderful place for breakfast or dinner. Large reclining lounge chairs and ample sun allow for laying in the sun year-round. (2) On the other side of the house is a beautiful enclosed private courtyard with multiple seating options, much like you would expect to find on a quaint cottage off Canyon Rd. From here, the Sangre de Cristo Mountains can be seen in the distance. (3) Outside of the main level bedroom suite is a large jacuzzi tub and private deck nestled in the trees, again with ample seating.
Lower Level: French doors in the Lower Level Bedroom open on to a private treed area.
Complementary pinion wood is stacked just outside the front door under a covered portico.
This is a home you simply must experience for yourself. We believe that all the 5 star reviews speaks for us as well.
Because many of the handmade, original art pieces are within a child’s reach, we discourage families with young children staying in our home.
This home was everything we read about online and more. The beds were oh so comfortable, the decor Southwest and beautiful, and the scenery took our breath away. The bathrooms had the softest towels and were stocked with everything we could have needed, and a little extra. The property manager was extremely responsive and answered ever question I had for him, even when we accidentally set the alarm off and had to call him after dark. The home had five kivas and we used several of them, including the one on the roof top deck. The home owners provided all the wood we could ever need and we definitely used a lot. The kitchen was very small, but because we were only using if for breakfast, it worked just fine. Everywhere we were in the house, there was a great view and we loved it.
My husband and I, along with our daughter, son, and his fiance, had a fantastic week in this beautiful, unusual home. The house and grounds are wonderful- it is so secluded and special, with many nooks and crannies, quiet reading spaces to hang out, amazing outdoor areas to star gaze or watch the sun rise... we could go on and on. You can tell that a great deal of love, creativity and attention went into the design of this house. We ate many meals outside on the beautiful patio, often warmed by the fireplace, making s'mores and toasting to world peace with a bottle of wine. As the owners state- the best happy hour is right here! The house was impeccably clean and beautifully decorated. There were so many special architectural details- one could spend hours roaming around and always find something new.
The house is located about 15-20 minutes outside of downtown Santa Fe- an easy trip in, but secluded enough so you are unaware of neighbors- it will just be you, your traveling companions, and that huge cobalt blue sky. There is also an amazing music room with instruments- we had a fun night playing along to our favorite music (with the help of Spotify.) There are some challenging day hikes, and we were lucky to see the amazing foliage in early October. And what could be better than returning home, jumping in the hot tub, and watching the sun set?
We had a fantastic trip and the owners were a pleasure to deal with. I hope to go back to this very special place again. This was our best rental on HomeAway, hands-down!
We had a fantastic time staying at the house and hope to repeat again in the future. We did travel with a group of 6 and one lady was 84 years of age. Maybe not the best house for her due to the "levels" within the house but we were aware of this from the house description. She faired quite well but we did have some concern.
The views were fantastic, beds quite comfortable and the hot tub topped off the day!
The property manager was very accessible and contacted us several times making sure all was good with check in and that our stay was good.
We stayed at Casa over a long weekend in Santa Fe and absolutely loved it! Beautiful home with every amenity we could think of. The views from the patios and terraces were amazing, especially during the lightening storm. Bedrooms and baths were excellent. Steve was wonderful to work with. He checked in with us during our stay to be sure we were comfortable. Great location, not too far from town or the opera. We plan on returning next year, if not sooner.
I'm hesitant to praise this place truthfully since it might mean it will be booked up so far in advance that it may never be available to me in future. To begin, the location is perfect. Equidistant between the town and the Santa Fe Opera--about 7 miles in each direction. The views are unbelievable -----360 degrees from the roof terrace. And there are extraordinary views from the other terraces as well. The place has every amenity one would want. The house is a wonderful example of Southwestern domestic architecture. Build of adobe of course, and it's beautifully furnished with many pieces of museum--quality Indian art. Not for the infirm or the handicapped since it's built on the side of a hill and thus is on several levels. But for the reasonably fit [my group were all late 70 early 80] it presented no difficulties. One last note: The property manager is a prince. Available by phone at any time to iron out any wrinkles if there are any.
The home is beautiful and well equipped. There were three couples and we each had our own bedroom and bathroom. Working with the owners and their property manager was just delightful. They were incredibly helpful. It is a fascinating property. We would not hesitate to rerun.
