Welcome to Log Cabin on Big Creek. You and your family will be very comfortable in our creek-side mountain log cabin located in beautiful Highlands, North Carolina. Our cabin is very unique because it sits right next to a very large creek. From both back porches you look right down into the water. We have high-speed internet with WiFi, BlueRay and Apple TV. You will enjoy our secluded location off a private gravel road. The only sounds you'll hear while sitting in our large screened-in porch are the rushing of water from the creek, wind in the trees, and if you're lucky, a trout reaching for a mayfly. The cabin sits at an altitude of over 3,800 ft. so the temperature is at least 10 degrees cooler than Atlanta and there is relatively little humidity! There are wonderful hikes throughout the Highlands/Cashiers area to be enjoyed year round. After your hike you’ll enjoy a soak in our jetted tub. If you're looking for a pet-friendly vacation, you've come to the right spot. We consider all pets except cats.

No Smoking: We have a strict no smoking policy in the cabin. If you smoke outside the cabin please field strip cigarettes and throw the butts in the garbage.

We are very good about keeping the availability calendar up to date.

Pets: We accept dogs that don't tear-up the house and landscaping, however, there is an additional $25.00 charge, per dog, per stay, for interior clean-up and a $100 refundable deposit. Please do your best to pick-up after your dog outside. Please don't leave your dogs in the cabin unattended for long periods of time. Cats are not allowed under any circumstances as the owner is very allergic! Other pets are okay with prior approval. Finally, although our cabin is pet friendly we are not flea friendly! In consideration of all our renters, please make sure your dogs are free of fleas or you will be charged to get rid of them.

Seasons: There is a lot to do all year round in the Highlands/Cashiers area. Off season can be the best time if you like the many hiking trails all to yourself. Leaf Season is spectacular. We often get snow in the winter to be prepared with a 4-wheel drive or chains.

Great Family Friendly Cabin

This cabin was charming, comfortable and welcoming for our quick family get-away. The kids loved playing in the creek (well supervised, of course) and we kept the fire roaring.

The owners could not have been more concerned for our welfare and enjoyment! We plan to return very soon.

Very picturesque log cabin, delightful owners.

We use the Big Creek Cabin about once a year for an annual hiking trip and always love it. It has an authentic feel. Very clean, very well stocked. You will get a very quiet night sleep away from the hustle and bustle. A short drive to the center of Highlands and restaurants. The cabin has been extended and remodeled in the past few years and the addition is perfect to bring kids who have a space to entertain themselves while the adults can finish their sentences in the other wing. The owner is delightful and very prompt if there is the slightest problem. A must see and stay.

Curb Appeal, but not well-maintained

Although the owner was acommodating, I would not recommend this property. It was dirty, and it was not well-maintained. We were supposed to stay there two nights. It smelled really bad, and the furniture was worn and had holes in it. We were cold because the heat did not work, and many of the lights also did not work. We could not wait to leave, so we did not spend the second night there. It was a rip-off.

After having rented through VRBO for many years, this is the first property I am sorry to say, was not suitable.

Owner's Response: We have opened our cabin to renters for the past nine years and this is the first time we have ever received such a poor review. Our cabin is always clean and never smells bad, so I knew something must have gone wrong. My son confessed to using our cabin just before this renter arrived and did the cleaning himself. He also thought he'd "do me a favor" and install a new thermostat, which explains why there was no heat. Of course I gave this guest a full refund and offered them to stay again for free. I only wish they had not waited eight days to inform me of the problem. The older part of our cabin has a lot of charm but with "charm" comes imperfections, which require constant maintenance. I pride myself in the fact that I have guests return year-after-year and one in particular who gave us a five star review immediately following this poor review.

We loved our creekside weekend!

This property is so lovely and comfortable. The faint sound of the water was incredible relaxing. We enjoyed a nice dinner at Madison's at the Old Edwards Inn, ventured out to explore the town on a beautiful sunny day and also to see the Dry Falls. Our stay was perfect!

A Very Special Place

If you're looking for an authentic mountain experience look no further! The log cabin is spacious but cozy, the creek is bubbling and fresh, and the location is convenient - close enough to both Highlands and Cashiers for convenience but far enough away to feel secluded. We love that the owner is truly pet-friendly allowing us the freedom to take our "kids" with us on vacation. With all the conveniences of home but in a beautiful mountain setting you can not go wrong by choosing this log cabin on Big Creek!

Great, Quiet Getaway

As this is our 2nd stay in this cabin, we really like it here. The new addition has only made it better with new A/C, big screen TV, a nicer bathroom area and more room. It is a quiet, cool cabin on a babbling creek that tends to put you asleep when you read on one of the two decks overlooking the water, plus it's only a 10 minute drive to downtown. The owner is great and is available to assist with both area attractions and cabin questions. We wouldn't hesitate to return if we come back to Highlands in the future.

Just 10 minutes from downtown Highlands our cabin is located in a secluded area on a large creek. The new addition features a large living room area with wood-burning stove, sleeping area, loft, full bath and A/C. The Highlands/Cashiers area is rich with spectacular hikes and is the place to go to enjoy nature without mosquitoes, searing heat and humidity. Water falls, rivers, creeks and lakes abound. Besides hiking, activities include fly fishing, high-end shopping, gourmet dining and golfing. Family activities include llama treks, gem mining, wading in our creek, lake swimming and fishing.
