About Pat Herold and Kerry Griffin

I've own this great beach house since the 70's. My kids grew up spending great times here, with many family memories being made. While my kids have grown into adults with families of their own, we still make time to make memories at the beach each year. The house has been a great get away for me, my friends and family. When not at the house, I make it available to others to enjoy and offer an affordable option on SGI. We've listed on VRBO since 2008, and have many guest that return. We hope to add you to list of guests that have visited and come back on a regular basis.

Pat Herold and Kerry Griffin purchased this house in 1977

Why Pat Herold and Kerry Griffin chose Gulf Beaches

Me and family use to visit the island for weekend get always back when there was hardly anything on the island. We had the opportunity to purchase this place in 1977 and it has been one of the best purchases we've ever made. We could not have asked for anything better to be able to take our kids and spend lots of quality time together. A lot has changed on the island, but one thing has not and that’s the laid back casual atmosphere that inherent to a relaxing place to get away.

What makes this house unique

Simple and affordable, in a great location that's quiet with awesome access to the beach.

Relaxing!

  • 5 of 5

The house was so well located! It very much felt like home and it was so easy to take a nap on the daybed on the front porch, when the days turned cooler and we couldn't get out on the beach. I was actually there by myself for a few nights and I always felt safe.

Kerry was always quick to respond to my, initially, many questions, and she was very nice about it.

We can't wait for our next visit and highly recommend this home to others.

Perfect house

  • 5 of 5

The house was very clean and the kitchen had everything we needed. A walk across the street to the beach was prefect.

It's like coming home!

  • 5 of 5

Our family loves this beach house. We are repeat bookers. The house is full of little treasures...books, shells, little gifts left behind by others. The owners are quick to respond when you have a question and they're generous in their pricing which makes this do-able for us. We will be back for certain!

Affordable and great!

  • 5 of 5

Our first time on The forgotten coast. I would go back in a heartbeat. Enjoyed this place so much from the start. It felt like home. Was truly right across the road from the beach. Kerri and Darrell are great hosts.

Plan B Perfection

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I had originally planned to go the Caribbean for an early anniversary but had to reschedule on the fly due to Hurricane Maria. After looking at dozens of possibilities on 30A, we settled on SGI and Kerry's place, and it could not have worked out better.

The house is located across the street from the beach, and you can clearly see and hear the Gulf from the upstairs deck, which was a must for me. Because of the "lights out for sea turtles" after dark rule, you also have outstanding views of the stars and Milky Way. The house itself has some funk to it as all old beach houses do, but it is super-comfortable and well-appointed for your stay--the fridge and pantry have lots of starter supplies (including a fully stocked coffee station), nice bathroom with a large shower, plenty of beach necessities included (chairs, towels, umbrellas, toys, outdoor shower, etc), cable TV (no HD...a minor quibble), and a good internet connection. Kerry was super-responsive to text messages, and also made sure that we had a very nice "early anniversary" gift waiting for us upon arrival--unnecessary, but very much appreciated :}

SGI itself is lovely, of course, and was very sparsely populated while we were there. There were people in the house across the street and in the house next door, and our three parties were the only people on our section of beach. We also visited the State Park and had, literally, a two-mile stretch of that amazing white sand beach to ourselves. I don't know if SGI is always like this in late September, but what a bonus to have so few people to deal with.

Dining options are very limited on the island, so we carried in breakfast and lunch supplies, and we took a 20-minute ride to Apalchicola for dinner every night. We really enjoyed hanging out there--lots of cool little stores, restaurants, live music, and even a micro-brewery. We also took a 1/2 day trip over to Wakulla Springs (google it!), which was really cool as was the ride there, which is mostly along the coast on 98.

Overall an outstanding vacation, of which Kerry's place and responsiveness as a host played a big part. Very highly recommended.

Cozy beach house, exactly as described

  • 5 of 5

The property was exactly as described. There were several extras like board games, flip flops, beach towels and beach toys. The coffee left for us was great! And we enjoyed the sea salt soap as well! You can use the outside shower when you return from the beach which was nice. We had a small problem when we arrived but the owners were quick to fix it and make it right.
