British Virgin Islands Villa Rental Photos and Description

Villa, 2 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 4)

Island Dream has a spectacular panoramic view from each room,4 decks, pool, on its cozy 1/2 acre among palms, tropical flowers and tropical fruit trees. A rock garden merging with native plants on a hillside surrounds one side of the pool and the other looks out to the sea as does the new partial shade deck..

Each bedroom has a private balcony and a bathroom opens on an outdoor shower within flower-covered rocks. There are no other houses on its road or behind it. The three beautiful, secluded beaches are a short walk away and have fantastic snorkeling. One beach has chairs and umbrellas; the other is pristine.

A very short walk brings you to a community center with tennis court, bocce ball court, restaurant and a large pool with poolside bar, plantation ruins for picnics and a small, lovely spa.Our guests may use all facilities at this center.

Although the kitchen is small, all our guests marvel at how well-stocked it is and easy to work in. I love to cook and leave herbs and spices for all to use. The art is high quality & tasteful. We keep many books on fish, plants, BVI history, good novels as well as a special section of Caribbean cookbooks.

About The Owner

We are an active retired couple with 3 adult children, ages 36-47 . Our past careers were in clinical psychology ,accounting and theater . Rob has become a jock in his older age, entering ski race contests and playing tennis as much as possible. Mary paints at least one water color a week and walks an hour every day (sometimes with weights on her ankles!) and is writing a novel abut a pretend island near here in the 1790s. Mary volunteers in VG the 6 mos. we live here each year, teaching and being a mental health adviser. We are also avid readers and hikers. We love to visit our friends and relative and be hosts to them in either Sunriver or Virgin Gorda. We are grateful for our good health , loving family and friends and the fulfilling and enjoyable life we lead.

The Owner purchased this villa in 1999

Why The Owner chose British Virgin Islands

Island Dream has a spectacular panoramic view from each room on its cozy 1/2 acre among palms and tropical flowers and fruits trees, mango, banana, lime etc. A rock garden with a half hidden deck merging with native plants on a hillside surrounds one side of the pool and the other looks out to the sea.

Each bedroom has a private balcony and each bathroom opens on an outdoor shower within flower-covered rocks. No other houses on its road or very close. The three beautiful, secluded beaches are a short walk away and have fantastic snorkeling. One beach has chairs and umbrellas; the others are pristine.

A very short walk brings you to a community center with tennis court, bocce ball court, restaurant and a large pool with poolside bar, plantation ruins for picnics and a small, lovely spa.

Although the kitchen is small, all our guests marvel at how well-stocked it is and easy to work in. I love to cook and leave herbs and spices for all to use. The art is tasteful and we keep many books on fish, plants, BVI history, good novels as well as a special section of Caribbean cookbooks. We have wi-fi and a dvd library. Our wonderful managers are always available for help . Maid and pool service are frequent. We live here for 6 months a year which is one reason the house is so well stocked and in good condition.

What makes this villa unique

I think that we and our guests love the privacy, the view seen from every room, each room having big glass doors and windows facing all possible views (incl. sunsets.) People love the pool which is so near the house that it is easy to dip and swim all day. Since we live here 6 mos. A year, the house has the feel of a real home -one with good art ,taste, comforts and useful items not found in villas that are used mainly a week or so at a time.

Guestbook comments from the owner

This is what the guest, Matt G, who stayed July 2013 wrote on another site:The garden around the house is spectacular, with its assortment of flowers of every color, and array of tropical fruit trees. You'll observe a variety of wildlife around the house as well, with brilliantly colored birds visiting the flowers. You are on a hillside overlooking a sparsely-used park with walking trails through well-maintained gardens which slopes down to the beach on the bay. Most evenings, sailboats moor in the bay, well below you providing a striking scene. While the house is secluded, you are about a 12 minute drive from the valley area with its restaurants and stores.

The kitchen is well-equpped if you are planning to do your cooking there, but there is a variety of nice restaurants on the island if you want to let someone else cook. We visited in July and it was quite warm but were comfortable in the non-air-conditioned section of the house--the kitchen & living area. There were ceiling fans and many screened windows to keep the air moving. The two bedrooms are air-conditioned but within an hour of our arrival we discovered that the bedroom our daughter would be using was not getting cool. A call to the property manager had an electrician there in short order. Unfortunately, he told us the outside unit had failed and would need replaced. We were told a new unit would arrive on the island the next morning for installation. "Island time" left us skeptical about just how promptly it would be repaired. But the next morning, the repairmen were there with the new unit. Unfortunately, it was not compatible with the inside unit, so they had to order one of those, too. Howard, who is also one of the property managers, coordinated all of the repair work with the electrician and the property owner, who quickly and thankfully approved all expenditures to get the work done. By mid-day, the repairs were completed.

The property has several porches--one in the dining area, and one for each of the two bedrooms. There is a lighted deck just off the pool area, but lights automatically go off each evening at around 9:10. We wished they would have stayed on later. The pool is small, but it has a deep end that you can stand up in with just your head above the water (if you are tall).

The house is clean and many small touches are included, such as a cooler and chairs for the beach. There is no cable/satellite TV, but wi-fi is provided and there is a DVD player and a library of movies

Even better than depicted on website

My husband and I have stayed in many accommodations in the US and British VI, and Island Dream is far and away the most romantic, picture-perfect location we've found. The Caribbean colors inside and out, the light and airy rooms, actual artwork on the walls, the many decks, the lush landscaping, all made for a totally relaxing stay in a beautiful environment. The house and grounds were impeccably maintained, and the views were fabulous from sunup to sundown. The stars at night were amazing - we even saw some shooting stars! Loved the isolation and quiet. And if you just can't unplug, there's even a great, fast Wifi connection. 5 stars & 2 thumbs up!

Island Dream is adorable!

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely stay at Island Dream for our 30th anniversary. The house was the perfect spot from which to explore Virgin Gorda. Each morning, we enjoyed coffee on the front porch while gazing out at the stunning view. After a day of snorkeling at the Baths or climbing Gorda Peak, it was nice to return to the house for a refreshing dip in the pool, surrounded by beautiful landscaping. While we enjoyed trying out the various restaurants in the area, (Hog Heaven, Sugar Cane, CocoMaya), we also spent a few evenings grilling dinner on the gas grill and enjoying a cocktail on the deck watching the sun set.

Mary was very helpful prior to our arrival and once on the island, Howard the manager quick to respond to any question, replacing the router and coffee maker as soon as a problem was discovered. I've rented a few other VRBO houses and this was the easiest and most relaxing experience.

Owner's Response: I am very glad you liked Island Dream so much. We try to keep it in perfect shape and are also pleased with our attentive and competent managers, Howard and Irma.We love it and often find it hard to return to the 6 months we live in the States. I also spend lots of time just looking at the garden -- as well as picking the key limes and using them for cocktails and pies.Thank you!

Great outdoor spaces

Island dream is a small cottage in a great location within the Nail Bay resort. We enjoyed the location , good snorkeling was within walking distance. The cottage is suurounded by beautiful mature gardens and the pool area is lovely. The pool is the warmest we have ever had. The home however was not as clean as we would have liked and items are in need of being replaced. If you plan on cooking while there the oven and toaster oven might change your mind. We were able to find a few old beach chairs to use, but again they need to update . We still was able to have a great time , a minimal investment could make a big difference in this home.

Owner's Response: I am glad you liked our house, Island Dream,-as well as the beautiful garden, pool, and ideal scenic and private location. As for the toaster oven, beach chairs and cleanliness of the house: I am very surprised about the beach chairs because we bought new ones before we left in February. The house should have been thoroughly cleaned – including both ovens, ( every nook and cranny!) before you came. Our managers, whom we highly regard, supervise the maid and tell us when they think we need new equipment. No one else has complained about these things so perhaps something unusual was occurring. I will contact our managers to learn their perception. Also – in the Welcome Letter I send our guests before they arrive, you may recall that I ask that if guests find anything in the house is amiss, if they would like help with anything, to contact our managers. Howard and Irma try to attend to guest needs as soon as possible. In fact, in the past they let us know immediately if they think they need to buy, for instance, a new toaster oven for the house. We have always accommodated their requests. Unfortunately, it seems that you did not inform Howard or Irma of your complaints, and therefore they had no opportunity to remedy them.

Island Dream

  • 5 of 5

My family of four thoroughly enjoyed our nine days at Island Dream. Very private, within walking distance of some of the best beaches on the island (if not the world), and enjoying the most spectacular sunsets we've ever seen, Island Dream is in truly special corner of the world! We loved aspect of our stay - and really enjoyed the obvious thought the owners have put into their home from the well-kept gardens to the breezy living spaces. I think everyone's favorite feature (in addition to the pool, from which it was very hard to separate our five-year-old twins...) was the outdoor shower - and the fact that you couldn't shower inside even if you wanted to! We ate every meal outdoors and spent our nights enjoying the spectacular stars and sounds of the surf. The beaches were phenomenal, the water clear and warm, the people we met friendly and welcoming, and Island Dream always a delight to return to.

Getaway in Paradise

  • 5 of 5

We loved staying at Island Dream! Every morning we woke up to a perfect, private view of the Caribbean, and every night we fell asleep to lovely sunsets catching the water on fire.

The house is airy, bright, and clean, with fun art all over - it's comfy and we felt very at home there. I've never used a shower like the delicious outdoor shower surrounded by granite rocks outside each bedroom's private bathroom. Each charmingly furnished bedroom also has its own balcony, and the main balcony in front of the house was big enough to have people we'd met over for a lovely outdoor dinner (which we cooked in the fully equipped kitchen and outdoor gas grill).

We adored the pool and patio right outside the front door but honestly only used it a couple times because the beaches (just a short walk along a well-kept path through the tropical forest!) were perfect. We could have spent each day just snorkeling and sunbathing and watching the beautiful yachts sailing through the secluded bay there, but we couldn't resist exploring around the island and other islands (which are all just a short ferry ride away) - there's so many awesome beaches, restaurants, views, culture, and you might just run into someone famous!

Mary Dwan was a joy to work with.

Couldn't recommend higher! Grab this gem and enjoy a completely unique and unforgettable island stay!

Island Dream

  • 5 of 5

Island Dream is an amazing beautiful and private house. We have traveled to most islands in the Caribbean .Island Dream is the one villa and Virgin Gorda the one island we return to every few years.

We love the easy access to the pool and the garden-enclosed shady deck at one end, next to the pretty, tropical rock garden. In fact, the gardens all around the house are lovely. We liked that the brush beyond the gardens also keeps the house private. Not that there are other houses or travelers on the dead end road!

The views are beautiful, with different ones from different decks and the two bedrooms. The bedrooms are light and airy. The kitchen is well equipped; the Dwans provide beach chairs and coolers. The art on the walls add to the serenity and charm of the house. We also loved the outdoor showers, especially taking a shower at night and looking up at the billions of stars and the moon. ( because no town lights are near the house, the starry night skies, as well as most sunsets, are spectacular).

The villa's privacy has been enhanced by an exquisite private golf course between Island Dream and the sea with paths around it in a natural park-like setting. No one played on the course while we were there and apparently its one family owners play on it only in December. No one else is allowed.

Adding to our enjoyment was how near the three beaches are to the house. Our favorite for swimming was Mt. Trunk; we think it is one of the most beautiful beaches in the Caribbean. We walked to the beaches almost every day.

We also swam at the large pool at the nearby Nail Bay resort and had cocktails or lunch or dinner sometimes at the Sugarcane Restaurant where the food was very good. We usually walked there, too. Sometimes Larry played tennis right near the Sugarcane restaurant with a friend we met .

Mrs. Dwan was very helpful in all our contacts with her. She sent us tons of helpful information before we came. Her delightful managers, whom we have met before, are also quite available and ready to assist if needed.

We would certainly recommend Island Dream and Virgin Gorda and Nail Bay , whose central location on the island makes driving anyplace very convenient, as a perfect place for people to stay, relax and be immersed in the best the Caribbean has to offer.

Island Dream is at Nail Bay with three relatively unvisited gorgeous equidistant beaches (5 minute walk) with the best snorkeling in the BVI. Guests can use tennis and large pool ( as well as our own one) at Nail Bay Resort which also has garden, picnic tables among plantation ruins as well as delicious Sugar Cane restaurant and poolside bar. This area has few houses and a country feel though house is air-conditioned, has internet access, large DVD collection, lovely art, fruit & palm trees, rock garden and abundance of amenities, cooking tools and grill.
