Maggie Valley/Waynesville Area Cabin Rental Photos and Description

Cabin,2 Bdrm+Hide-a-bed(Queen),2 Baths,(Sleeps 4-6),A/C,Linens Included

“A World Apart” is not your typical bare provisioned rental cabin locked away in a subdivision overlooking more houses than views. Its location was selected and the home painstakingly built by our family to take advantage of the best of Maggie Valley and Western North Carolina. The care and attention to detail is visible throughout.

Our home is located at 4000' elevation in the mountains and would NOT be easily accesible by motorcycle. Even though our property has plenty of parking and room for cars, trucks and trailers, riding by motorcycle will be up to the comfort level of the rider. The road leading to our property is made up of dirt/gravel and may not be suitable for every rider.

Nestled on 6 secluded acres of Soco Mountain, our home offers a Romantic Oasis for Couples or the perfect Retreat for Families. Relax on the Wrap-Around Porch and unwind while enjoying the scenery and listening to the persistent harmony of the Creek winding through the valley below. If you’re still and quiet, some of the neighborhood hummingbirds might visit and perhaps even an owl or two will announce the arrival of dusk.

The downstairs of our home features a magnificent Stone Fireplace towering over the living room, Satellite HDTV with DVD, broad-plank hardwood floors, queen sleeper sofa, slate bathroom with Antique Claw-Foot Tub and walk-in shower. The Queen Bedroom features a large armoire, Satellite TV/DVD/VCR, and its own door leading to the hot tub. A fully-equipped and well-stocked kitchen with slate countertops and peninsula bar in addition to the dining table for six offers plenty of seating and amenities for your family gathering. Screen doors and windows allow for Mother Nature's ventilation and the sounds of the wilderness without being visited by it.

Upstairs the loft features a pool table and French Doors that open onto a Covered Porch complete with Dining Area. In the Master Suite, unwind in the slate-surround Jacuzzi Tub while gazing out at the mountainside or enjoying the soothing embers of the electric fireplace. Satellite HDTV with DVD invites you to just lounge in the pillow-top King Bed watching a movie. The French Doors from the Master open onto a Large Private Balcony that is the perfect place to enjoy the morning’s first cup of coffee.

For those who still feel the need to keep in touch with the outside world, free high-speed DSL wireless internet is provided. Please note that this service is wireless only so you'll have to have a wireless enabled computer to use the free service.

Wrap-around porches complete with rockers, swings, Adirondack chairs, charcoal grill and (our family’s favorite) a secluded hot tub for 6 are really why you vacation in the mountains. The upstairs Tin-Roofed Porch plays an unforgettably soothing melody on drizzly afternoons.

On adventuresome days, you’re a short walk to cascading waterfalls and only a few minutes drive to the Blue Ridge Parkway, Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Ghost Town in the Sky, the Cataloochee Ski Resort, Cherokee and Harrah’s Casino. A late afternoon trek to see the Elk in Cataloochee Valley is a must do and in little more than 30 minutes you can be enjoying the Biltmore Estate in Asheville or the Great Smokey Mountain Railroad in Bryson City.

We welcome you to be our guests and find out what makes our home 'A World Apart!' However, don't just take our word for it. Our previous guests comments are the best editorial of what you can expect.

About A World Apart

I've had a love for the Smokies throughout my life. Annual retreats to their splendor, beauty, and peace have been a part of my life since I was a small child. When I need a reprieve from the sometimes hectic 'normal' life that I head to the bosom of these old mountains. Just one breath of cool, crisp morning air seems to put everything back in its proper place. I hope you too can find a little of that mountain magic. --Brien, Charlotte, NC

A World Apart purchased this cabin in 2008

Why A World Apart chose Maggie Valley/Waynesville Area

The name “A World Apart” came quite easily standing on the porch one early evening. After your visit I hope you’ll understand why...

The land on which A World Apart sits has been in the family for a few decades. The cabin was started in 1985 and was literally built board by board by one person. It was a quiet retreat and went through numerous design changes and additions, but the interior was never completed (some would say it was never started). With its lack of insulation, few exposed frame walls, and roughed in plumbing and electrical, it was a fun place for getaways where no one could find you.

In 2006, after many years of the cabin sitting desolate, I purchased the property. That set off a two year adventure of weekly drives to the property, more Lowes trips than I ever thought possible, and a frustrating and painstakingly slow yet rewarding process of reworking and completing the interior of the cabin and bringing it up to current building code. The majority of the work was done by my family including all the framing, electrical, heating and air, insulation, cabinetry, tile work, flooring and stairs (which was milled from red oak trees from my primary house), and too many other details to recall them all. It was a labor of love that nearly broke me in so many ways.

We tried to pull from the best of the cabins we had visited around the Smokies and at the same time, add a little of our own flair and style. I am quite pleased with the result and have been rewarded by the many kind words and stories from guests.

What makes this cabin unique

It’s all about location! The cabin sits just a few minutes West of Maggie Valley, Ghost Town, and Cataloochee Ski Resort. The Blue Ridge Parkway runs along the back side of the mountain. Even being so close to these amenities it feels as though you are on a quiet hiking trail in the middle of the Park. The 5.5 acres is surrounded on all sides by vacant properties so that there is literally no other sign of civilization within your view. The only sounds are the wind through the trees, the creek running through the hollow below, and nature living the way it was intended.

The Wonderful World Apart

  • 5 of 5

World Apart has got to be one of the best deals in Maggie Valley and surrounding areas. The hot tub, the pool table, the jacuzzi, the fire pit and the hammock are just some of the great features of this great cabin. However, by far the best feature of all is that it is on 6 acres of land by itself. The wife and I both have to deal with the public and really like getting away from it all. We now have stayed 7 nights last year and 7 nights this year without seeing or hearing the first human being. The chipmunks and the humming birds were the only guests we had all week long. This cabin is great therapy for those who live stressful lifes. The owners of this cabin are some of the nicest people that you will ever want to deal with over the phone. I could go on and on ranting and raving about this place but one sentence basically sums it all up and that is. We will be returning to this cabin every year for a week of tranquility, this place is just what the doctor ordered.

Owner's Response: It was so nice having you back as our guests. We're glad you once again had a great, relaxing time. I chuckled when I read your point about the relaxation. We had this reinforced to us this Spring when we stayed for the Spring cleaning and to add some new things like the fire pit and hammock area. We had it planned out to have PLENTY of time to work and relax, but ended up having to extend our stay and still found ourselves rushing and working into the wee hours the last few days because we spent the first many days sleeping late and doing nothing but laying around staring at the mountains enjoying the silence. We hadn't been that relaxed in quite a while and forgot just how comfortable the cabin is. It will suck you in without you even realizing it. :-) We can't wait to have you as our guests again next year. --Brien and Tricia

Secluded, very nice cabin!

  • 4 of 5

Beautiful cabin, very secluded. Owners very helpful with directions (PRINT the map-don't rely on GPS for last mile); very clean! Loved the hammock, porch, swing, so many beautiful areas to walk to (hope we didn't trespass). Looks like you can see forever at the top of the mountain!

Big negative for us was we did not like having to take our own trash to the dump upon check-out; not fond of hauling 3 days of trash in our car with our belongings...approx. 10 miles down the road.

Very nice cabin, BUT make sure it meets your needs!

  • 4 of 5

This was my first rental via VBRO and overall I can say I was pleased. My wife especially loved the cabin which was well kept and well stocked. However, there were a few considerations that could make this rental a definite "no-go" for some vacationers, depending on your individual needs and situation.

-While the cabin technically had Wi-Fi, it was 100% completely unusable for the entire 5 day stay. Much closer to the truth to say "no Wi-Fi at all" really. Our group tried on 1 laptop, 2 tablets, and 3 phones and while all of them were able to connect, the speed was so slow that it was unusable. I don't mean you have to wait for a page to load, I mean, go away for 2 hours and the page still isn't loaded. Luckily cell phone reception at this property is very good! So we were able to use our cell phone service to look up things online, but if Wi-Fi access is a "must have" for you, this property shouldn't be considered.

-The car path to reach the property is very steep gravel. If you have a 4-wheel drive vehicle it is fine, but I'd hesitate to book this property if you don't. Our 2-wheel drive vehicle was able to make it up there (with some effort), but once it starts raining and getting muddy there's a good chance you'd get stuck.

-I'd recommend this rental more for the fall, winter or spring if you are looking for views. The privacy here is great year-round I'm sure, but in summer you don't get any mountain views from the property due to the dense foliage, and the path leading to the top of the property is overgrown (bring a machete if you plan to venture up in summer).

So, if you don't need Wi-Fi and have a 4 wheel drive vehicle, I can give this rental a good recommendation. It was a beautiful cabin at a reasonable rate.

Great Cabin Stay!

  • 5 of 5

We completely and totally enjoyed our stay! It was nice to see the "other" side of the Smokies. Had all the amenities we needed for 2 couples. Having 2 Masters made it comfortable for everyone. The Hot Tub was great and clean, the wood fireplace was very nice. The pool table was a fun addition as well. Maggie Valley was quaint. Much different than the other side of the mountain. I would caution folks to have an SUV, truck or AWD as it is a gravel drive that could be slippery in in-climate weather. Overall the cabin was clean, comfortable and very relaxing.

We ate at Joeys pancake house every morning, it was fantastic! A great way to start off every adventure. SOCO falls is also a must. We spent an afternoon in Asheville, Sierra Nevada Brewery is a must. Great food/brew and simply beautiful. We wanted to get to the casino, but couldn't fit it in. Maybe next time we'll try our luck. We look forward to another getaway here! We would absolutely book again without hesitation.
