I had an amazing time at Dan's Copake home. The pictures don't do it justice. It's open, bright and spacious. The back yard is absolutely incredible and really made our stay that much better. There's also two great decks and a grill.
The lake across the street is beautiful to look at, but the water isn't ideal for swimming. So if you love to be in the water, you'll likely have to take a quick drive. However, within just 10 minutes of the home you have Bash Bish falls state park, which has beautiful water falls and swimming holes. You have the Taconic Mountains for incredible hiking, there's Copake lake where you can rent kayaks and jet skis (although not a real sand/beach area here) and some other lakes in the area where you can lay in the sand. We went to Prospect Lake in Grea Barrington, MA (about 20 minutes away) and there was a big slide into the lake, a floating platform, and they had picnic tables and grills. You could also rent kayaks, canoes and pedal boats there and all the rentals were less than $10! Beach area there was small but I would definitely recommend this place for the affordable rentals and awesome view.
My group and I will definitely be coming back again next year!
This house is just beautiful - full of windows with lovely wooded views, cathedral ceilings, and skylights. It's as comfortable and inviting as the pictures suggest. When I was looking for a rental, I just kept comparing all the others to this one, until I finally just booked it, and I'm glad I did. The master bedroom is on the second level, up the spiral stairs, and it's a beautiful space and very private. Dan, the owner, was very helpful with recommendations for enjoyable activities in the area, and even agreed to return a pillow we left behind, at no charge. We loved the house and the week's entertainments - the area is gorgeous - with nearby waterfalls in the state park, picturesque golf courses, hiking, Tanglewood concert series, and Copake Lake. Thanks, Dan, for sharing your house, and for returning the pillow!!
I'm sorry for not responding sooner. Your home was the best vacation rental in which I have stayed today and I rent frequently in the Berkshires. I am going to want to stay there again for a week. The home was exactly what my wife and I needed for our family. Your instructions on what to do in the area really helped us out, and John was really wonderful as well. The grounds were beautiful. What can I say, I have finally found the right place.
I highly recommend staying in this country home. We had a wonderful vacation here! The house is very large and has great decor. It's also very clean. Dan made our stay very easy and worry free. Our favorite part of our stay was getting up and walking across the street to swim in the lake!
There is a large home theater System, The area has a bunch of true country swimming holes, Teconic State Park, Waterfalls, Climbing, Top Hiking trails, including the Appalachian Trail and is a top Antiquing Center. Tanlgewood music festival and outlet shopping are nearby
