About Karl or Rachel Forer

My wife, Rachel, and I first visited Kauai in the early eighties and just got hooked. We bought our first vacation rental property in 2001 at Sandpiper Village in Princeville and spent about 5-1/2 months renovating it. We dreamed that one day we might be able to make Kauai our permanent home, and we were fortunate to actually make this happen in January of 2006. We bought our second vacation rental property at Puamana in August of last year (2010), as our second vacation rental property. and after a renovation period, placed it on line as a 3 bedroom 2 bath townhouse vacation rental.

My wife and I are retired, however, I keep busy managing both properties, when we're not dancing, playing softball/pickleball, or at the beach. One of the advantages of living here on Kauai and offering vacation properties for rent is that any issues with units that may arise are addressed immediately and decisively through direct communication between the guests and me, the owner. There is no go-between management company in the loop to delay any action that may be required. It's a win-win for everyone.

Mahalo for visiting Homeaway and if you have any questions, call me at home (808-245-4830) or cell (808-651-0503).

Guestbook comments from the owner

My son and I spent 8 nights in the two bedroom unit (234A) and enjoyed every minute spent at the condo; it's very comfortable and feels like home away from home. Looking forward to visiting Kauai and staying here again in the future!

5 star for location! 3 1/2 star for the rest.

  • 3 of 5

I have to give it only a 3 1/2 star. It could use a bit of some updating. But mostly, as temperatures climbed to about 90 during the day. It became a bit unpleasant with out air conditioning??? Which we were not aware of. So keep that in mind. Other than that. It was not that bad.

Nice place in princeville

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our stay in Princeville. If staying on that end of Kauai, you couldn't ask for a nicer place. All was explained in advance and went smoothly. It is a quiet place so people with small children may find it too quiet, but it was fine for us. It is a bit of a drive is spending much time on the other end side of the island or doing many trips that way, but for Princeville and a Hanalei Bay are it was great.

Unit has almost everything you will need , but is in need of a facelift and some minor repairs.

  • 3 of 5

It was late when we arrived and it was hard to locate the parking spot, but we got there eventually. The steps to the unit need some repair. It was very warm when we went in, but it cooled down once we had the ceiling fans on. This unit needs a coat of paint and some repairs to the kitchen counter and doors in the bedroom, it also needs a new shower curtain rod. There was a floor fan, but it was absolutely filthy and we did not chance using it. The mattress in the main bedroom seems to be past its best and needs replacing. Be aware, this unit is close to a road and the traffic noise gets quite loud, especially early in the morning as service vehicles move around the area, earplugs will come in handy.

On a positive note, the unit is well stocked in the kitchen, has a great washer/dryer with detergent. Shampoo and body wash is provided, as well as many items you can use for your trips to the beach. There are lots of towels, trash bags as well as sundries for use in the kitchen. There are TV's in the 3 areas of the unit, as well as dvd players and an audio system.

Accommodations comfortable

  • 5 of 5

Enjoyed staying here. My son lives on Kauai so it was a vacation for him too. We were centrally located to all the beaches and towns. Nice walk to Princeville Center. My only regret was the weather. More overcast/and rain than sun; but when the sun came out, it was hot and the beaches were amazing! Karl was very accommodating when I mentioned the coffee pot was not working. We had one by the end of the day. Thank you Karl (and Reagan). I will be looking you up when I return next time. Aloha~gina from Covina, CA

Okay property, but has some downsides

  • 3 of 5

This unit is in need of some major updates and cleaning. We arrived to a dirty floor (my feet were black after walking around for only a few minutes) and there was a hint of cigarette smoke. I'm super sensitive, so others may not notice but I could smell it in the comforters on the beds. The bath towels need replaced as they were rather stinky, even after I washed them thinking that would help. The shower downstairs had several dirt stains in the grout - just needs a good deep cleaning. All of the trim around the floors was very dirty, as well as the carpet on the staircase up to the loft. There were missing tiles on the corner of the kitchen countertop. I realize most of these things probably wouldn't bother most people, but I'm a clean freak so it bothered me. In owners defense, I never called him to try and sort any of this out (I have two little kids so time is not on my side, so I just dealt with it). Also, the property is very strict on noise levels - my 4 year old couldn't even laugh loud outside without a stare from a full time renter. The pool area was very nice and clean, although there were "please be quiet" signs posted all over. This property, in general, is not the best for families with children who just want to play and laugh, and have fun. Overall, with all that said, we did enjoy our stay and loved the close proximity to all things in Princeville.
