Built on Matlock Bank, ten minutes walk from the town centre shops and restaurants, Gate Cottage offers two bedrooms and sleeps four persons wanting to visit the Derbyshire Dales. One bedroom is a super king double and the other can be a super king double or two single beds. The bathroom has a shower and a separate bath. Outside there is a small front garden and a patio to the rear off the kitchen. Parking is available for one small to medium sized car (please note the driveway is narrow) - other parking without restrictions is a two minute walk away whilst there are no restrictions on street parking at the weekends. The kitchen is equipped well with a dish washer, microwave, toaster, oven, hob etc and lots of little extras (we try and keep salt/sugar/tea/coffee and so on all stocked up for guest use). The lounge has a log burner and a basket of logs is provided for each set of guests (extra baskets are £4.00) and a smart TV. Free Wifi throughout.

Lovely, comfortable cottage
We thoroughly enjoyed our short stay at Gate Cottage. It was very cosy and comfortable, and we were particularly impressed with the bedrooms. The kitchen was well equipped with appliances and the basics of tea, coffee, sugar and condiments, which made our stay much easier! The bathroom was a great size and we all appreciated the fantastic shower! My only niggles would be that the living room was perhaps a bit of a squeeze for three people, without being squished together on the sofa or sitting on hard dining chairs. Also, as someone with limited mobility I did find the interior stairs hard work but in fairness, should have checked this before booking. I wouldn't recommend this as an accessible stay for anyone with mobility problems or very young children but would heartily recommend without hesitation for everyone else!
Thanks for your review ... we don't take children due to the stairs and always point out the stairs are steep as the cottage was built in 1740... I agree the living room can be tight for four people but would like to point out to other guests that we provide a nice big bean bag and rocking chair as well as the sofa and dining chairs. Glad you enjoyed your stay. Martin
All clean and tidy. Nice garden to sit out in. Lounge cum dinner small for 3 of us; OK for 2.
Carol and Martin both very helpful. Gravel on steep parking area was a challenge! On street parking was preferable. Matlock itself is a pleasant town and a good base for the area
