Wells Cottage Rental Photos and Description

It's all windows, it's all about the view and the rugged outdoors, sleeps 3

Cute, modern and clean home with gorgeous lake and mountain views. Sleeps up to 3. Comes with 2 kayaks, 2 bikes, grill, lake float.

This is a great area for outdoor activities. Enjoy a small town atmosphere with big time Adirondack adventures in very comfortable lodging.

We call her 'Trailer Liscious'. She's a 1960's mobile home that has been transformed to an open, modern space with oversized windows that bring the outside in. Has a cozy indoor propane fireplace, outside fire pit, weber grill, kayaks and bikes. Snowshoes provided in winter.

Great year round spot to enjoy hikes to our local waterfalls, kayak, swim or x country ski and snowshoe, bike around the lake, and take drives to the many other nearby lakes. Or just sit on the sofa and enjoy the view!

First Bedroom: sleeps two in a comfortable West Elm double bed with nice linens.

Second (small) bedroom has one single bed also with great linens.

We supply all the local scoop for hikes, waterfalls, antiquing and restaurants. Nearby there is golf, horseback riding and whitewater rafting. Skiing in winter is terrific - both x country and downhill are nearby, this is snowmobile country, local rentals available.

There is a small road between us and the lake, easy kayak, swim, cross country ski or snowshoe access to lake.

BEST things about this house? The views! And it's cheap, it's clean, very comfortable, easy and comes with all you need - kayaks, bikes, grill, fireplace, fire pit, binoculars, snowshoes. The lake and mountain views are unobstructed and lined by pine trees, creating a feeling of privacy rarely found on property so close to the lake. Use of kayaks May - Oct.

We have a land line phone for local and long distance phone calls (Verizon cell service only up here), wifi internet, microwave, full kitchen, Netflix on our flat screen TV, lots of great books and DVD's and games. No cable though, we come here to get away from the news!

The HASSLES with this house? RECYCLES. Guests must agree to take them home if they brought a lot, leaving a small amount is fine but must follow the towns strict recycle rules - they must be kept clean and separate from garbage. We then have to take them to the dump and separate them into bins by hand. We simply cannot handle this task if large amounts are left. So - our general rule here is similar to camping. If you brought it in, you must agree to take it out! Leaving small amounts (less than one bag full) are fine, and will be hauled to dump by our fabulous housekeeper.

Rachel Ray Endorsement!: Trailer Liscious was featured in Rachel Rays Magazine as one of her recommended romantic, cheap getaways in her Valentines Day edition!

No smoking, no pets please. Sleeps 3 persons max.

PAYMENTS: 50% to reserve, 50% due 35 days prior to arrival, payment by check or cc (plus 3.5%). We accept HomeAway payments for last minute reservations only (within a month of arrival). Please note that HomeAway does now charge a fee to guests (and to us) for HomeAway payments.

About Maura

Maura has been coming to Lake Algonquin her entire life, and knew as a small child she would have her own home here, little did she know it would end up being 5 homes! We enjoy all the year round outdoor fun - we ski, swim, kayak, paddle board, snowmobile, hike, antique, bbq and sometimes do absolutely nothing.

We use them all, we rent them all. It's been a great experience sharing what we love so much with others.

Maura purchased this cottage in 2006

Why Maura chose New York

The Trailer Liscious Experience: This trailer was purchased for the location - one of the best views on this very picturesque and quaint lake.

The original plan was to use it for a few years for extra sleeping room, then tear it down and build a house. However, after staying here a couple of seasons and putting a little (OK a Lot!) of elbow grease into fixing her up, we recognized the efficiency and practicality of keeping the trailer. It is solid as a rock, local craftsmen have enhanced her with an abundance of picture windows to capture the view, we now have a fireplace, efficient heat and winter plumbing. She's clean, modern, warm and here to stay! We love her and so do our guests!

What makes this cottage unique

It is unique to find a cozy, clean, comfy and yet affordable get away for couples or two friends (can sleep up to 3, has 2 beds)

The views are fabulous. This is a small town on a beautiful lake that never gets very crowded, that is hard to find these days.

We do our best to supply NICE things for a NICE experience for all our guests. You will have access to very good kayaks, bikes, snowshoes, linens, towels, spices, paper towels, napkins, tin foil - things you may not think to bring and most vacation rentals do not supply. We try to make it easy and breezy for you!

In winter deer and wild turkeys surround the house (our neighbors feed them).

Guestbook comments from the manager

We had such a wonderful time relaxing and slowing down from big city living. We rested, walked and enjoyed the BBQ. Hours on the couch drinking in the lake view and letting time slowly pass. A place to fill the heart and empty the mind.

Thank you for a wonderful experience.

Great HQ for south-central ADK

  • 5 of 5

Trailer-licious was comfortable, well-equipped, and centrally located for all the stuff we wanted to do. Maura is a great communicator and accessible host. She checked in on us via e-mail after we arrived and was easy to contact throughout. Perfect weekend getaway spot for both serious outdoors people or those looking to unplug. Great star-gazing just outside - saw the Milky Way for the first time!

Relaxing and Peaceful

  • 5 of 5

This was my first time renting a place with my partner and we really enjoyed our stay. The combination of the relaxing atmosphere and idyllic views made for a vacation that far exceeded our expectations.

Even though there are a few houses nearby, we still felt secluded and comfortable. There was some construction going on down the street, but it was distant enough that I had no issue ignoring it.

Overall, it felt somewhat like luxurious camping. We were able to take a few hikes in the beginning of the spring season (a bit slushy, but who doesn't like stomping around in some mud) and we found this AWESOME cafe in Keene Valley that makes all its food from scratch. Definitely a diamond in the rough. Food was fantastic with delicious craft beer.

During the rainy days, we explored a little/stayed at the house, which was just as much fun. The house was very cozy and there was a "great library" (verbatim from my partner, he loves Watchmen) and DVD selection. I would have loved to have had the windows open because I can only imagine the calming breeze that comes off the lake during a warm summer night. But having the fireplace wasn't too shabby during the sometimes chilly early spring nights. True to the owner's warning, the fire alarm is pretty sensitive but overall we loved cooking in the kitchen.

Maura gave us a really nice detailed list of things to do and such in the local areas as well as helpful and useful hints to living in the house. Everything was really clean and she always made herself available if we needed her. The same goes for Debbie, the housekeeper. I would definitely revisit this property in the future for a nice getaway. Hope this is enlightening and not to harebrained for anyone interested in the property!

Car: necessary

Lake Algonquin is located in Wells, New York, southern Adirondack Mountains. Quiet town, not a lot of tourists (there are no hotels!) so you may have the lake all to yourselves, especially midweek.

The area is stunningly beautiful...with mountain hikes, waterfalls and lots of lakes. We will share all the local remote spots, most of which you would never find without local assistance!

In warmer weather we supply kayaks for exploring the lake and bikes for exploring around it. Great fishing on Lake Algonquin, free tennis and basketball courts in town. We supply a list of antique shops, recommended local restaurants, hikes and other things to do. Nearby there is golf, horseback riding and whitewater rafting.

It is a winter wonderland here during the snow season! We supply 2 sets of snowshoes, skiing is terrific - both x country and downhill. Small ice skating rink in town, ice fishing abounds, and there are car and snowmobile races on this lake that are thrilling to watch, and can be seen from the comfort of indoors. Rent snowmobiles - hundreds of miles of groomed trails!

Golf: Public golf 15 minutes away in Speculator, NY

Ski Gore - fabulous, never a long line - reasonable rates - spectacular views we LOVE Gore!

Ski Oak Mt - 12 minutes away, small but beautiful views of local lake and mountains, great for beginners and kids.

Cross Country Ski at Lapland Lake - Finnish flavor, tons of trails, lake, reindeer, nice restaurant, very down home feel to it, this is our favorite.

Cross Country Ski at Garnett Hill - very nice - near Gore

Cross Country Ski out front across our lake - bring your own skis!

Snowmobile trails are famous up here - rent in Speculator, they have guides as well.

Snowshoe: we provide 2 sets, go anywhere in woods near house, across lake or on the many trails around - we recommend hiking to the waterfalls which are gorgeous in winter with all the ice.
