NOW TAKING WINTER RESERVATIONS - a beautiful time to be in the Berkshires. This cherished hillside retreat has been our family home since 1940. It was renovated in 2008 for vacation rental, after our parents move. Two acres of lawn and field surround the house. Views of the neighborhood and distant mountains can be seen from anywhere on the property. The house is located between Lee and Lenox, off Route 20, central to the wide array of activities that the Berkshires offer throughout the year. In winter, Butternut Ski Basin is just 1/2 hour away, a great place for family skiing. Tanglewood is within 5 miles, Laurel Lake (swimming, boating, fishing) is 1/2 mile away. Shops and restaurants on Main Street are within walking distance (1 mile). Other Berkshire attractions such as the Norman Rockwell Museum, Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival, Daniel Chester French studio, Edith Wharton's The Mount are all within ten miles. Winter skiing is within 20 miles, and fall foliage viewing abounds anywhere. Come, enjoy!
The kitchen and bath were completely renovated in 2008, with new fixtures and appliances, including Bosch washer and dryer. The house is equipped with Wi-Fi, a television in the living room, and one in the master bedroom.
There are three rooms downstairs: eat-in kitchen with a pantry; dining room, living room and a 1/2 bath. The second floor has three bedrooms and a full bath, shower only (no tub).
There is a comfortable, open porch that overlooks the hillside where lovely sunsets can be viewed. The hill continues behind the house into the Town Forest and walking trails are nearby on Golden HIll Rd. We would love to share this home with you and your family.
The surroundings.......: The house is located at 75 Circular Avenue in Lee. This street is off Route 20 (Laurel St), between Lee and Lenox. It is central to the many cultural and outdoor activities that the Berkshires offer. Laurel Lake is within 1/2 mile, and Tanglewood is within 5 miles. You can walk to Main St. and downtown Lee (1 mile), where there are many shops and restaurants. Backroads for fall foliage viewing abound - and winter skiing areas are within 10 miles.
This house is our family home, which our parents purchased in 1940. They spent 70 years together in this hillside home, raising six children. My father was a local teacher and coach, my mother a local newspaper reporter and author. The house is now owned by the six children. Because the house is such a special place to all of us, we wanted to keep it in the family so that family and friends can continue to enjoy it. Come visit us!
Ann Letendre purchased this house in 1940
Thank you so much! We had the best weekend ever!! We loved the house and the town of Lee. Thank you so much for everything!
First of all, Ann was a complete pleassure to communicate with throughout the rental process. Second, the house, itself, and its location were exactly what we were looking for -- peaceful, with great views, and walk to town (a little TOO close to the great ice cream place, though!). Super convenient for all Berkshires excursions, culture, outlets, restaurants, hiking. 100% satisfied. Thanks, Ann!
We just spent a week vacationing in this house and it was great. The house really has everything you could want/need and is well-maintained with loving care. It had comfortable beds and furniture, a charming front porch, a kitchen stocked with all the items you need to use for cooking, washer/dryer, refrigerator, etc., plus a high chair and pack n' play for our one-year old daughter. It was nice having the space and being able to make ourselves feel at home. The house is high up on a hill and surrounded by trees and woods which is scenic. The only downside, I think, is if it were winter and the leaves had fallen we would see route 20 more easily and that road is pretty busy - so it would feel less secluded. The location was very convenient, though, right up the road from Lenox, near the Lee outlets and downtown Lee. We really enjoyed ourselves.
What a charming home set in the hillside! I am a big fan of Norman Rockwell and this lovely home had all the character that is displayed in his paintings! The Norman Rockwell museum is in the area. All the rooms are accurately depicted on the website, My family felt right at home here and particulately enjoyed the views from the front porch.
It was very enjoyable reading about the history of Lee and some of the family's stories in the book written by the original owner.
It is very close to the town. We will be returning!
The Coach House is the prefect place to stay for a Berkshires getaway. The house is only minutes from Tanglewood, Jacob's Pillow and great food, even though we spent much of our time just hanging out on the front porch. We hope to be back soon!
We had a lovely week at the Coach House in late September. The house really is on top of a hill - and offers terrific views and amazing sunsets. We found everything we needed and went grocery shopping down the street to cooked almost every meal at "home".
We traveled with our two young children (1 and 4), who really enjoyed playing in the yard and woods. The house really is close to everything and we took several little trips to the nearby Berkshire Museum, Shaker Village, Stockbridge, Lenox and Great Barrington. We found great sandwiches at the Housatonic Deli in Lee and had terrific pizza at Baba Louie's in Great Barrington.
The beds were very comfortable and we all slept well during the crisp New England nights. The stairs were a bit steep for our little ones to climb up and down, so we had to carry them (oh my aching back!). Also, this is an old house, so the hardwood floors creak a lot. We must have looked like FBI agents, trying to strategically maneuver the creaks so as not to wake the children.
The owner and her family are so warm and hospitable - such a pleasure to deal with. We hope to come back and stay with you again. Thank you!
We spent New Years weekend at Coach House and were so happy with the house and dealing with the owners. Everything was just as described and we greatly appreciated the fantastic kitchen as we mostly cooked the whole weekend. It was also wonderful to be a short walk from town. Lee was such a perfect location for friends from Boston and New York to meet each other and celebrate the new year. Thanks for such a comfortable and lovely place to have this reunion!
