As an exchange student in Loreto in the 1970's, Mrs. Dotterer fell in love with Loreto and never forgot her experience with this quaint little mexican village on the Sea of Cortez. When Mr. and Mrs. Dotterer heard about the opportunity to purchase this type of property on one of the most picturesque beaches in baja, they couldn't get there fast enough. 'We had a great time on our first trip 'back' and left as proud and VERY excited home owners of our precious villa by the Sea of Cortez in Loreto.' The couple lives in San Diego so we usually drive to Loreto and take long vacations (3-4 weeks) at least twice a year. 'We have made amazing friends who are homeowners in Loreto like us from the U.S. and Canada and also with local 'Loretanos'. We love the beach and ocean so Loreto could not be more perfect for a beautiful getaway without the crowds of a typical tourist destination in Mexico. We hope you enjoy your stay in Loreto as much as we do!'
Cambria Dotterer purchased this house in 2007
We feel very safe here and the beach is the the best beach in Loreto with a quite and protected cove for swimming and snorkeling along with a great estuary for kayaking. Loreto Bay is backed dropped by the Sierra de la Giganta Mountain range that is litteraly your backdrop view. It is so beautiful with the mountains on one side and the ocean on the other. The Beach is right out in front so there are just beautifully landscaped walk ways and no traffic to pass through. We are far enough away from town for peace and quite and near enough for a quick dash into town for a little sight seeing or visiting one of our favorite restaurants.
Our villa is in a fully secure development right on the beach. We have 24 hour security walking the premises. They are very friendly and most know us by name. We are away from the businesses of Downtown Loreto yet can get there in 5-10 minutes by car. In our little community there is a great beach front cafe with pool side service, a wine bar (Wine Cellar at Nopolo), tequila bar, great coffee house and cafe with smoothies and fresh juices, golf course with a fabulous restaurant - All within walking distance of no more than 5-10 minutes at the max! We even have our own local band, the 'Los Beach Dogs'. Strolling along the Paseo be sure to stop in to the artisan boutiques, or have enjoy a massage, take a yoga class or opt for a wood fired pizza and a beer or a glass of wine at Cafe Macchiato. In addition there is daily palapa usage, kayak and snorkel usage right out in front- what more could you ask for? oh - and there is Loreto's only championship 18 hole golf course, which is beautiful and has many holes right on the water!
We loved staying at your beautifully decorated home. I came back with so many photos of the "village" to show everyone. The last day we spent looking at others with a realtor, but with the exception of one, we liked your home the best. Ran into a woman from Canada who stayed in your home last year. She also raved about it. This time they chose a larger home on the golf course because her group golfs. Every place I go to in February has the worst weather ever. Loreto was perfect for us! There are two new additions to the village: an organic store with fresh vegetables and fruits, fish, shrimp, meats and chickens. We cooked shrimp almost every night and had their chickens. Very good prices. His wife is next door with massage and nail spa. Also, a cafe called Corazon that serves great coffee, sandwiches and pastries. Wonderful selection of reading material while you sit there. One place that we enjoyed besides the golf restaurant was the smaller one called Bajaja. It is situated next to the pool off the golf course. Very good service and good breakfast and lunches.
This was the most relaxing vacation my husband has ever had. We saw the whales, drove up to the mission, kayaked, swam each day and explored the town and the neighboring beaches a bit. Thank you for making our stay so easy and comfortable.
This wonderful home was 100% perfect in every way. The location, just a few steps away from the beach, and a few miles from Loreto, was exactly what we were looking for. The home was spacious, spotless, and comfortable. Every detail was perfect. There were four of us - two couples - and the layout of the home was perfect, allowing us privacy. We use vrbo very frequently and I must say that this is one of the nicest we have ever stayed in. Thank you for making our holiday so wonderful!
Pictures do not do this community justice. The grounds and casita were gorgeous. Flowers and birds surrounded every building. My family used the kayaks whenever we wanted as Gorge gave us the paddles when we spoke to him the first day. The palapas on the beach were a perfect shady spot and the water was calm and perfect temperature for swimming and boating. We had the amazing cinnamon rolls and coffee drinks at the funky Cafe Corazon on the main road. All the people were friendly, mostly Canadians and Californians who vacation or live there part time. The security guards and other staff spoke English and tolerated my broken Spanish and were so kind and accommodating. I felt safe and pampered the whole time.
Cambia's casita is well decorated, up to date, very clean, and has everything we could need for our stay. The beds were dreamy, the towels were ample and the kitchen gadgets were of all varieties. The bikes and inflatable rafts were great to use. She was very helpful from the start to finish and I would rent from her again in a heartbeat. It is a very short walk to the beach and in a nice private courtyard. The upper patio grill was great for stargazing and night dining.
We went into Loreto proper and loved the pretty and historic courthouse and center square with a variety of places to sit outside and have happy hour or dinner, shop or grab ice cream. Must do- charter a panga boat ride to Coronado island. We saw dolphins, sea lions, manta rays, a rare blue-footed boobie, starfish, and (unfortunately) jellyfish. (Other boaters came to our assistance with white vinegar and Benadryl pills and cream for the jelly sting.) The island was straight from a post card with white sand beach and teal water. Highly recommend the restaurant Fonda Canipole where the chef Sofia greeted us with 'welcome to my home' and treated us as if we had just stepped into her private kitchen.
The vacation was great. Cambria's place was fabulous and a welcome comfort to come home to at the end of a long day. I highly recommend this casita for a great vacation.
Cambria's place is absolutely beautiful - and loved that the villa was so close to the beach. The villa was beautifully decorated and the apartment was so clean. One of the key selling points of reserving this villa over others is the kayaks. The villa was well equipped with a lot of amenities and really thought seriously about investing in property in Loreto Bay because it was so beautiful. Another plus is that Loreto Bay is very close to the Hotel next door, so you can spend time on the beach while also having access to the Bar. :) I highly recommend staying with Cambria, and would book again when I come back!
There were 5 of us on the trip. Myself, husband, 2 teenage daughters and grandma. The condo is nestled into the middle of a large community and extremely safe. We left our doors unlocked during the day and never worried about intruders. The accommodations were spacious and comfortable. A bit tight for my mom (she slept on the daybed in the living room), but we knew this in advance per the description. The beds are soft, but clean and there were NO bugs. We had our windows/doors open all week and all commented on the lack of bugs - probably just hit the right season. Jorge's hut is just a short walk and he was great and let us use any of the kayaks and/or stand up paddle boards - we just tipped him a bit at the end of each day. This a lovely beach, extremely shallow and nice for a long walk. Good snorkeling as well. My husband enjoyed a good round of golf at very reasonable prices (there were clubs in the condo). We found a fabulous, new restaurant in Loreto, "Mi Loreto." Highly recommend! Also, recommend getting most grocery shopping at Ley's in Loreto. The one in Loreto Bay is good for a last minute items or something homemade from their freezer stocked by a local chef. I would definitely come back to Loreto Bay - it is a sleepy community, perfect for a relaxing vacation!
The house is just as pretty and well-kept as it appears in the pictures. Perfect for two couples because we were able to do stuff together and still have adequate privacy. The location is lovely, just minutes from the beach. We can certainly see ourselves going back :-)
First of all, this property is fine. It's probably great for the price and I have nothing to compare it to as it was our first time in Loreto. The property manager, Cambria, is exceptionally helpful as were the people on site. The development is gorgeous. It's VERY developed (which some people like) and kind of Disneyland that way, but it's really beautiful. We snorkeled from the beach and kayaked and SUP'd and swam and all of those things were great. The water is lovely. The upstairs Lanai was beautiful and it does FACE the Sea of Cortez, but you can't see the water. The distant mountain view is beautiful. The tiling and windows and gardens are lovely. Wifi needed some tweaking and changing of cables to get it to work, but then it worked the whole time. It was so quiet and the pools are stunning and we loved ordering wine at the community pool and drinking it while floating around.
I would for sure choose Loreto Bay again, if I returned to Loreto, over staying in town.
That said, 3 star rating is for the following because, for us, we chose this property for some specific things that didn't work out:
1. the ad said, "In addition, our entire deck, not just a portion, faces the Sea of Cortez." I thought that meant that we'd SEE the ocean, but you can't see it. The deck faces east, yes, towards the sea, but no view. This is confusing for me.
2. it has kayaks, yes but the kayak hut guy with the paddles wasn't there much and so it was hard to use them. We got out once and that was nice and he was nice, but we returned about 4 times and he wasn't there. This could be seasonal, I get it, but again, this is one of the main reasons we rented here.
3. The beds were very soft and I lifted the sheets and they're also very old. The one upstairs hurt my back and it affected my sleep.
4. The living room is dark and the only place to sit to avoid mosquitos in the evening and morning, BUT it has a mosquito infestation. We didn't tell Cambria or possibly she could have done something, but that was a bummer for us as well. Maybe they're in the air conditioner? We kept the windows closed and killed many, but kept getting bit and seeing them in there.
I'm sorry I'm not gushing like everyone else. We were happy here, but as I explained, some major things were amiss. Thanks for sharing your home!
We are located in Loreto Bay which is about 8 miles south of downtown Loreto. The setting is very peaceful with fountains and landscaped walkways. Lush vegetation with lots of trees and flowers. Our casa is set about 300 feet from the beach- just a 30 second walk out the front door and you are on the beach. There is a kayak shack where you can rent kayaks (we have two for our guests to use at no extra charge) and snorkel gear. you can also charter a boat to go to the islands for a day of snorkeling or fishing. On the South end of the beach there are Palapas and lounge chairs for daily use at no charge. you can order snacks from the pool bar/cafe or bring your own. There is a beautiful ocean front 18 hole championship golf course that surrounds an estuary full of wildlife. You can also check out my restaurant recommendations on our blog called LoretoLiving(dot)com and our other properties at LoretoParadiseProperties(dot)com.
Thank you for your interest in our property for your vacation and we look forward to accommodating you and your guests in Loreto!
