About Paul and Barbara

We moved here for the peace and tranquility that this valley has to offer. While we have neighbours within a few hundred metres we all respect the need to keep noise to a minimum so that everyone can enjoy being away from the hustle, bustle, noise and stress of modern life.

We live in the old barn across the garden from the cottage and keep ourselves out of sight during your stay except to maintain the pool and garden first thing in the morning and late in the evening. It also means that we're on hand to make sure you are happy and comfortable during your stay.

Paul and Barbara purchased this cottage in 2015

Why Paul and Barbara chose Perigord Blanc

This is a beautiful area of France with really friendly people where the great values of yesteryear, such as politeness and respect for others, still live on. Where we live is conveniently close to Perigueux for the necessities of life and yet is far enough to feel as if you're in the middle of nowhere.

If you value peace and quiet then we would love to welcome you to La Gondie.

What makes this cottage unique

Guests renting the cottage have sole use of the salt water pool which measures 12m X 5m and is heated by solar panels.

Notes:
The final photo is our house. We are here to keep the pool clean and the grounds maintained. However, this may not suit everybody and although we try to keep a discreet distance, the back of our house does face the pool. La Gondie is set in a very peaceful location where one can completely unwind from the stresses of life and enjoy the tranquillity of the countryside. The pool is the main source of entertainment and families have had a great time here. But because of our setting sound travels throughout the valley which is why noise should be kept to a minimum so as not to impinge on our neighbours, even though theyre a few hundred metres away. The slope of the grounds also mean it is not suitable for playing football and similar games, which some youngsters might find restrictive. We want you to find the right place for your family holiday so please get in touch if you think La Gondie is what you are looking for.

The definition of relaxation

  • 5 of 5

A fabulous rural retreat.

The location outside Blis et Born is peaceful and remote, set in beautiful countryside with a wide range of wildlife to view while lazing by the fabulous private, heated outdoor pool.

The accommodation is a separate cottage located across the garden from the owners house. It is clean and well equipped, with loads of character.

Paul and Babs are wonderful hosts, getting the balance just right between being there if you need something yet allowing guests their privacy.

You will need a car to get to the property, but that's good as there's so many places to visit nearby. We went on jaunts to many of the beautiful local villages, played some golf, and went canoeing down the Loire (this I highly recommend). On most days though the temptation was to stay beside the beautiful pool and relax.

This was our second stay, both my wife and I would have no hesitation coming back again in the future.

Beautiful cottage, lovely valley, fantastic pool, great owners

  • 5 of 5

A really terrific holiday in the Dordogne, helped by the high standard of the gite and the private pool, which the kids loved. The owners are terrifically welcoming and helpful, without being overbearing. It is located in a beautiful valley and we pretty much had great weather all week. Highly recommended.

Great place, lovely people.

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at La Gondie was very good. Before we arrived all of my questions were answered and more by the owners, Paul and Barbra over email and the payment method was easy and fault free. Upon arriving we were greeted and aspects gîte were explained thoroughly through an information pack. The gîte was very clean, tidy and had all the accessories we needed as well as butter, milk, cereal, bread, beer and wine when we arrived as we did not have time to go shopping beforehand. The pool was a comfortable temperature, was clean and great fun to use. Apart from the weather being awful for 3/4 of our stay (which the owners obviously cannot help) we were able to enjoy ourselves with use of the board games and the television on rainy days and the pool and sun beds for the warm days. The bedrooms were spacious with comfy beds and a large living room area which is were we spent most of our time. Over all our stay was very pleasant, and we were made very welcome by the kind and accommodating owners. We would definely stay there again and recommend to others.

Warm welcome, Lovely property, excellent Pool

  • 5 of 5

The property is lovely & the owners, Paul & Barbara, have really thought of everything, from English multi plug adapters to Sky TV.

There is a nice decking area if you wish to eat outdoors & a BBQ for your use. The pool is brilliant and a real selling point. It is cleaned everyday and there are sun beds provided for your use.

There are plenty of shops & restaurants within a 20 minute drive. There are also numerous things to see & do (Chateaux - Castles, Mini Golf - Caves - Canoeing) all less than an hours drive away.

If you are looking for a relaxing break in the French country side, with the added bonus of a private pool, then I would highly reminded La Gondie.

Blissful pearl in the Dordogne

  • 5 of 5

This gorgeous hideaway, La Gondie in Blis-et-Born, was our holiday home for six nights and our only regret was that we hadn't booked more. Our kids loved swimming in the pool, catching lizards and spotting the local wildlife. The house was homely, spotless and comfortable. There is a lot to see around this area within driving distance. Paul and Barbara were the perfect hosts, discreet, helpful and friendly. We felt at home here. We'd love to return here.

Coast/Beach:

La Gondie is approximately 2 hours drive from the Atlantic coast with its long sandy beaches and excellent surfing waves, however we are close to several large lakes which have clean sandy beaches, safe swimming areas with sailing, boating and canoeing facilities. Canoe hire is available on many of the rivers.

Travel:

We are situated approx 20 min drive east of Perigueux. Bergerac airport is approx 45 mins drive to the south, Limoges airport approx 75 mins drive to the north and Bordeaux airport is about two hours to the west of La Gondie. It is approx a 6/8 hour drive to the ferry ports. A vehicle (or bicycle for the seriously energetic) is essential in order to enjoy all that this area has to offer.

Distances:

We have a restaurant in our local village of Blis et Born, which is about 5 minutes drive away. We have 2 bakeries approx 10/15 minutes drive, but the nearest shopping area, which has everything, such as large supermarkets, pharmacy, clothes shops and numerous restaurants is in Trelissac (outskirts of Perigueux) 20 min drive away. Hautefort, with famous chateau, is just 30 minutes drive.

Further Details:

Within the surrounding area there are many attractions such as canoeing, quad biking, horse riding, go ape park, go-carting, an aqua park, forest walks, cycling as well as the wonderful medieval city of Sarlat and Brantome, known as the Venice of the Perigord. Lascaux is famous for its cave paintings and there are many other amazing caves and Chateaux worth visiting. The area is noted for its cuisine; notably duck, foie gras, wild mushrooms and truffles.
