About Brian & Barb Meckes

I was raised in the country outside of Palmerton, PA. My wife grew up in Morris Plains, NJ. We met at work in the mid 80’s and married shortly afterward. We moved to the Orlando, FL area in the late 80’s and lived there for approximately 20 years. While in Florida we had two children – Jessi & Alex. Jessi loves anything and everything about horses and Alex enjoys living the big city life (lived in NYC after college and now lives in Boston). In 2006 we moved to the Raleigh, NC area and shortly afterward fell in love with the Asheville, NC area. We decided we would someday retire in this area.

Brian & Barb Meckes purchased this cabin in 2016

Why Brian & Barb Meckes chose Asheville Area

While Florida offered warm weather, many attractions and beautiful beaches – we missed the mountains. A friend owned a cabin in the Smokey Mountains in Blairsville, GA. We vacationed there often and enjoyed the hikes, views and country air. Eventually work led us to Raleigh, NC. We vacationed in the Asheville area and immediately fell in love with the beauty of the mountains. We decided we wanted to purchase an early retirement home in the area. It took three years and many miles of driving but we finally found the house we knew we would call home. It happened to be Linger Lake Lodge.

What makes this cabin unique

Private and peaceful setting overlooking a 2 acre stocked lake. Two streams on the property, an apple orchard and lots of open area for children to play. Approximately 15 minutes from Chimney Rock and Lake Lure. The shops of Hendersonville and Black Mountain are approximately 25 minutes. The city of Asheville is approximately 40 minutes from our home.

We took the whole family for a week to this house. It was wonderful. The view from the wrap around porch was beautiful. The family enjoyed fishing and hiking. Perfect in everyway. The house was unbelieveable.

The owner was helpful and freindly.

Beautiful home and amenities

  • 5 of 5

Brian and Barb were wonderful from our booking of their home to ensuring we had everything we needed when we arrived. Their home is absolutely beautiful and had everything our families needed. The house was plenty big for all 7 adults and 3 children. We all enjoyed the screened in porch and the expansive yard. We had a wonderful time at this home with family and enjoyed a beautiful wedding.

Wish we could have lingered longer!

What an incredible place! If you need to relax, this is just what the doctor ordered. Every morning was spent enjoying coffee overlooking the lake and every evening was spent on the covered patio enjoying a cocktail while watching the lightening bugs. Simply amazing!

A lovely mountain retreat and so much more ...

  • 5 of 5

Linger Lake Lodge was the perfect setting for our family vacation. The home is spacious, well-appointed and comfortable. The property is breathtaking. We enjoyed fishing, hiking, and just relaxing on the porch. The home is close enough to Asheville and Chimney Rock that we were able to enjoy some of the attractions there as well. Barb and Brian are exceptional! They were very responsive to all of our questions and requests, and took the time to check in with us to make sure our needs were met. Linger Lake Lodge certainly exceeded our expectations in every way!

Beautiful, well-appointed home

  • 5 of 5

Linger Lake Lodge is a beautiful home for a getaway. The house is spacious and comfortable. Our family of 12 easily fit with room to spare and plenty of space to not feel cramped together at the rare times we were all inside. Usually, most everyone was outside taking advantage of the truly lovely surroundings. A large porch with rocking chairs overlooks the pond, making a beautiful, relaxing place for a morning cup of coffee. The expansive yard was a great place for the kids to play football and the adults to set up cornhole - or even just go for a walk around the pond and through the apple trees that were blooming during our visit. The fish were biting in the pond all weekend. The kitchen was amply outfitted for our cooking needs. The house is isolated enough to be quiet and relaxing but an easy drive to restaurants and attractions in Chimney Rock, where we had dinner one evening, and Hendersonville. Our only complaint was a seemingly early check out time (10 am), but the owners said they could work with us on that as the booking schedule allowed. I think our family will return.
