I was raised in the country outside of Palmerton, PA. My wife grew up in Morrisville, NJ. We met at work in the mid 80’s and married shortly afterward. We moved to the Orlando, FL area in the late 80’s and lived there for approximately 20 years. While in Florida we had two children – Jessi & Alex. Jessi loves anything and everything about horses and Alex enjoys living the big city life (lived in NYC after college and now lives in Boston). In 2006 we moved to the Raleigh, NC area and shortly afterward fell in love with the Asheville, NC area. We decided we would someday retire in this area.
Brian & Barb Meckes purchased this cabin in 2016
Barb and I grew up in the northeast where mountains surrounded the area. Shortly after we were married our work led us to Orlando, FL. While Florida offered warm weather, many attractions and beautiful beaches – we missed the mountains. A friend owned a cabin in the Smokey Mountains in Blairsville, GA. We vacationed there often and enjoyed the hikes, views and country air. Eventually work led us to Raleigh, NC. We vacationed in the Asheville area and immediately fell in love with the beauty of the mountains. We decided we wanted to purchase an early retirement home in the area. It took three years and many miles of driving but we finally found the house we knew we would call home.
Private and peaceful setting overlooking a 2 acre stocked lake. Two streams on the property, an apple orchard and lots of open area for children to play. Approximately 15 minutes from Chimney Rock and Lake Lure. The shops of Hendersonville and Black Mountain are approximately 25 minutes. The city of Asheville is approximately 40 minutes from our home.

We took the whole family for a week to this house. It was wonderful. The view from the wrap around porch was beautiful. The family enjoyed fishing and hiking. Perfect in everyway. The house was unbelieveable.
The owner was helpful and freindly.
We stayed at LLL during our daughter's wedding at Grand Highlands at Bearwallow Mounttain. The entire bridal party stayed at the lodge and really loved it. If you are searching for the right spot to relax you can stop searching. We have stayed at many cabins in the Blue Ridge Moutains and none were as comfortable and accomodating as LLL.
Our family of 8 adults, 3 youngsters, and one baby had a wonderful time at LLL in June of 2013. The accommodations were exactly what we needed and the kind of location we were looking for - all 4 couples had their own bedroom, and the kids had the loft. There were plenty of bathrooms for all and the dining and relaxing areas were big enough too. Lots of outdoor space: screened porch, deck, and a huge grassy area for games and gathering. The creek runs through the property and the waterfall or sliding rock were not far away. We spent time at Chimney Rock (town and Park), and Lake Lure beach. Short day trips to Biltmore, Asheville, Black Mountain and Montreat were easy to do. But hanging around the property was tons of fun on its own.
The house was beautiful inside and out and easily accomodated our family of ten. The children loved the loft area and the ladder to reach it. The kitchen was very well stocked and was immaculate. We were able to have a campfire at the fire pit, play baseball in the spacious yard, and enjoy the small island in the creek as it morphed into a pirate ship. We stayed the first weekend in December and were delighted to have the house alread decorated for Christmas. We all hope to go back in warmer weather.
Three couples stayed at Linger Lake Lodge for a week in late fall. It was a beautiful property, well-maintained and extremely clean. The lake house had many large windows that let in lots of natural light. It was also well-stocked with kitchen items, linens, games, etc. The owner was extremely helpful and willing to address any questions before and during our stay. We would definitely stay again!
Our group of retired teachers chose Linger Lake Lodge for this year's reunion. This was just the perfect spot in the NC mountains and a wonderful time of year to enjoy the Fall foliage color and activities. Located between Bat Cave and Black Mountain, this home is within easy driving distance to Lake Lure, Hendersonville, and Asheville and many activities and restaurants that we enjoyed.
The house has four nice bedrooms plus a loft for extra guests. The layout had everything our group needed and more. The view from the porch rocking chairs is delightful with morning coffee or an evening snack.
John, the owner, was very helpful and easy to reach. As a great host, he has gone beyond the expected to provide a perfect get away experience for groups or just a couple. And this would be a great spot for families with kids, as well as all adults, as we were. I have already recommended LLL to some friends and I hope we can return some day.
