What an awesome find!
My wife and I really enjoyed our time here in Makaha Beach, Oahu. Being away from the hubbub and traffic of Honolulu made this place a quite, peaceful respite that we were looking for. Here's what we appreciated about this condo:
1) The view was fantastic no matter what time of the day it was. We even saw a turtle from the corner of the lanai.
2). The condo is very spacious, was very clean when we checked in, very comfortable, very private and very quiet. The furniture throughout the condo was very comfortable and made us feel at home.
3). The louvered window in the changing room added a nice breeze that could be felt throughout our stay
4) The kitchen was very user friendly and well stocked with everything we needed to cook with.
5). Although there were only two of us that got to enjoy this great place having a half bath and a full bathroom with a great shower was a blessing.
6). Really appreciated the fact that most of the light switches were labeled making nightly searches to turn lights on or off a "nonexistent" chore.
7). Finally kudos to the staff at the "Hawaiian Princess" including security, house keeping, grounds keeping, and the times share office. They were like a big "Ohana" going out of their way to answer our questions and giving us directions to the grocery stores, and Longs Drugs. Kudos also to the head pharmacist at Longs Drugs who gave us directions to the Emergency Room and filled my wife's perscriptions. The Makaha/Waianae Ohana are awesome! We will be back!
Only downside was all the construction noise at the Princess. The condo is fabulous and we are spoiled now, no more inside units for us😄
I am glad that you enjoyed my Hawaiian Princess corner unit condo. As you mentioned in your review, the corner units are much nicer than the inside units. Sorry about the construction noise. The entire building is replacing the lanai tiles and railings. This project is scheduled to finish in October or November of this year.
We loved the view and sounds of ocean
We really enjoyed our two week stay. The beach is great, and it was wonderful to see and listen to the ocean waves from the condo. The security is good, and the condo was comfortable and quiet. Unfortunately, there was a glitch and the condo had not been cleaned when we arrived and we had to change the bed ourselves (hence the 4 out of 5 stars). However, Fred immediately got someone in to clean the next day and refunded our cleaning fee. Thanks Fred! Several other repairs had to be made while we were there, but it wasn’t a big problem for us. We were able to see whales from the lanai and also took a whale watching tour from Wild Side Speciality Tours that left from the Waianae boat harbor only 5 min away from the condo. The tour went up to the north point, and we saw whale breeches and tail slaps. Amazing! The condo location is about half an hour from Kapolei where more activities and restaurants are available. Makaha itself is definitely not touristy, but you can find the basics in local stores. If you are looking for a relaxing ocean-side vacation, this is a great choice.
Great views and a good sized unit
We have stayed at the Hawaiian Princess before, always on an end unit that has a great view and a good amount of space. This unit meets that expectation but could benefit from some remodeling to match other similar units that have been upgraded.
Although we were there when a breeze through outside windows kept the temp fine, the main A/C unit was not working and a note said that it would be worked on.
The kitchen cabinets were in need of replacement and because of the open concept they detracted from the overall appearance of the unit.
A couple of small appliances jwould hep. A better toaster, a dust buster, and a Kurig coffee maker.
Also we had to shop for dishwasher soap because none was supplied. That stuff is inexpensive when purchased in bulk and SHOULD come with the rental.
I am glad that you enjoyed my condo. Regarding the items mentioned, the main AC unit has since been replaced with a new unit. Although the kitchen cabinets are original, my rental price is less than other corner rental units. Other than the kitchen cabinets, the master bath room and closet have both been remodeled and upgraded. All flooring has been replaced with tile, all appliances have been recently replaced, and the unit has two new flatscreen TVs. There is also free Internet wireless in the unit. Although the coffee maker is not a Keurig, there is a recently purchased drip coffee maker.
The kitchen otherwise is fully stocked with all supplies and utensils needed. Regarding the lack of dishwasher soap, the cleaning staff has always supplied provided a supply for guests. I apologize that this was not provided during your stay. I will follow up with them to make sure that all future guests are provided a supply.
Exactly as posted!
Everything on the listing was exactly as described. The beach itself is fantastic and really does feel like a private beach as it is not crowded at all. The communication that Fred the owner provided was crystal clear so made our vacation very easy to enjoy.
Our favorite unit in our favorite Hawaii property
This is the third unit we've stayed in at the Hawaiian Princess. We love being on a protected beach where we can walk a few feet from our unit and be in the ocean. The water is deep enough for swimming, snorkeling and diving, and at at the north end there is a long underwater lava finger that shelters a lot of sea life. Turtles often swim by, and there are few people on the beach other than residents. There are no intrusions from motorized watercraft.
This unit has a wrap-around lanai, the north side of which allows sitting outside in the shade (very useful when it's too hot to sit in the sun). The previous units we stayed in at the HP had the lanai wrap on the south side, which gave us sun slightly earlier in the morning but were otherwise not very useful. We also looked at some inside units, which are smaller and only have a single bathroom. Also the corner units have sliding doors on two sides, allowing for the almost perpetual breeze to blow through. And they have a louvered back window on the public walkway. The inside units have airflow only from front to back.
We had Wi-Fi, which our other units did not have. The bedroom air conditioning kept it cool enough for sleeping (many units in the HP do not have air conditioning), and we had a washer and dryer. Neighboring properties typically lack such amenities.
All furnishings and linens were good quality, abundant, and appeared to be fairly new. All appliances worked well. We were provided with more than adequate space in a walk-in closet for all our clothing and travel bags. Other units we've visited either had most closets and cabinets locked, were filled with vintage sheets, towels and bric-à-brac, or had removed most of the closets and cabinets to produce a more open feel.
We love Makaha for the nearly year-round opportunity it offers to enjoy the ocean. It is not a tourist area, lacking most tourist amenities, though boats providing diving tours leave from the nearby Waianae Harbor, which has a dive shop. Good nearby dining centers on a cafe located in the farming area above Waianae, serving largely organic foods that they grow or raise.
Overall this is a great place for quiet and for enjoying the beach and the ocean. To the south, in Waianae, there is very protected swimming at Pokai Beach. Less than a mile north there is more adventurous snorkeling, diving and surfing at Makaha Beach. There are also several hikes, along the ocean or up to the top of Mt. Ka'ala or the nearby ridges.
nearby local grocery shopping and informal restaurants , formal restaurants and dinning are 20 minutes away.Beautiful public golf course, deep sea fishing and scuba tours are all nearby.
