I am a retired high school level French teacher, loving travel and the beauty of the gardens and architecture of Europe.
The creation of Sunlight Seascape has been my passion and joy! As a child, I spent free, endless summer days on this beach, bay, and pasture learning how to swim, dig clams, build forts, and ride horses.
Capturing the natural beauty of the sea, land, and spacious sky was my inspiration in Sunlight SeaScape’s design and construction.
Building began on the property while I was teaching advanced French classes. The passions of nature, freedom, and culture blended together in the creation of this beautiful place.
Joy Abbey-Adams purchased this lodge in 1999
I love this Useless Bay, Sunlight Beach and surrounding pastures and mountain views. I love sharing this property and safe, friendly and stunningly beautiful Whidbey Island with my guests who also appreciate its beauty and precious resources for access to Nature.
I began designing beautiful gardens and simple, exquisite interior spaces to connect with their natural settings. This property inspires me each morning as I breathe the clean, fresh air and experience the abundant beauty of mountains, sky, ocean and activity on the beach. Pastures and forests are our land constant while dragonflies and hummingbirds soar. Sometimes a baby otter will bob its head in Useless Bay as ships pass in the straits. Sunsets in the big sky complete amazing days in all seasons. As I grew up and become a nature lover, I will always love sharing Sunlight SeaScape on Whidbey, the beautiful Northwest getaway I get to call home.

Stayed here back around 2012 and couldn't have been more pleased with the thoughtfulness placed throughout the room and property. Good use of space, delightfully decorated and beautiful grounds.
My wife and I enjoyed a two-night stay here. The studio was clean, quiet and comfortable. The "welcome" flaxseed muffins and OJ were delicious. The towns of Langley, Freeport and Coupeville became our favorites and were not far from the studio. We especially enjoyed the balcony view at sunset.
Could not have been more perfect for me and my dog. Great view and location. Enjoyed sitting on the private balcony with my morning cup of coffee and relaxing with my book in the evening. Close to the beach to enjoy long walks. Had everything I needed to unwind.
My husband and I stumbled across The Whidbey Guesthouse, while searching for B & B's in Seattle, actually! The views, the option for both ocean countryside AND the cool commute-in, and Joy's kindness really spoke to us. We made beautiful memories here! The place is inspirational, has a healing calm, and the sites---100% Recommend! We felt as though we were visiting relatives, who had left their key for us. First class and right at home!
My husband and I stayed 3 nights in the boathouse, which is an efficiency studio in the lower level of this rental. It was charming, quiet, and very comfortable. We didn't have an opportunity to use all the amenities, but the unit is extremely well-equipped with cooking implements, fridge, hot plate, microwave, and quite cozy with bathrobes, beach towels, and more. While there isn't a view from the apartment, there are delightful seating areas outdoors with stunning views. There is also a view from the deck off the main house, great for a family to rent the whole thing. We will definitely stay here again. Note, while I raised my eyebrows at Joy's homemade flax muffins, they are as delicious as she claims!
We had such a relaxing weekend staying in le studio. It was better than I expected: very clean, simple decor, super cosy, and a great view. Our two nights spent here with our 2 dogs was very relaxing. We enjoyed taking them to the dog beach, visiting a farmers market, and driving around to the different towns. It was the perfect place to head to in the afternoon and cook a meal... the weather was even nice enough that we were able to enjoy our dinner outside on the balcony as the sunset. If you are looking for a relaxing weekend away, this is the place! We will definitely be keeping Seascape in mind for the future!
