LUCKY and HAPPY because hurricanes Irma and Maria skipped over us! Eco-Friendly because we utilize sustainable energy (backed up by batteries and the grid) and encourage responsible use of energy, water, cleaning agents and recycling. Please notice updated pictures since the storm.
A 15 minute drive along a quiet road from the ferry in Cruz Bay will bring guests to this idyllic island setting. Situated barely above the treetops and merely a 60 second dash to the beach lies the vacation home you will want to revisit.
This new, secluded, spacious eco-friendly Caribbean villa features Thai decor, tropical pastels, lush vegetation and private pool and hot tub. It promotes outdoor living, socializing and simply Being. It offers a wooded trail guarded by deer, birds and crabs reaching a pristine beach within 2-5 minutes walking. Strolling further along the beach brings one to sugar mill ruins, mountain trails to petroglyphs and several additional quiet beaches.
In keeping with the St.John focus on sustainability, the Villa offers opportunity for adults and children to learn about the solar alternative energy, water conservation and the unique flora and fauna.
Plan on lying in bed each morning with sunrise views over the hills and sea, listening to the breaking surf. Enjoy views of the ocean during the day from all parts of the Villa including the pool and hot tub. Swim, snorkel, surf, sunbathe privately or take a hike right below the Villa into the National Park. Evenings gather on the balcony for breezes, sunset hues from billowing clouds, sails and sunny faces!

About jonathan ward, md
We are grateful and would like to share this family vacation paradise!
jonathan ward, md purchased this House in 2008
Why jonathan ward, md chose Fish Bay
Our home did better than most through the storms and was well cared for by our handyman who stayed there the last several months until we arrived. All basic systems are intact. We do walk to the top of the driveway for phone calls and texts. We sit on the deck in Cruz Bay for internet. We have DVD movies and hope to get channel TV and internet at the house soon. The grounds are beautiful as the hurricanes skipped over our home and the trail to our gorgeous & secluded beach is clear.
What makes this House unique
A touch of Thailand in the Caribbean. All the comforts of a new home, plus some! Excellent hiking right out the door. The best surfing and some of the best snorkeling and lobstering on the island. Beachcombing, bird watching and bonefishing. Friendly concierge on island to arrange day trips, massage, catering, grocery shopping, driver, babysitting. Photovoltaics and other 'green' features The spirit on the island has recovered well, the beaches and trails beautiful and many services up and running. Restaurants, Grocery Stores, Boutiques and The Tap Room are open and going VI STRONG! The Island and people will welcome you and appreciate the business! Expect some minor inconveniences and then you will be pleasantly surprised by the progress and kindness.

Also, we offer a few suggestions to make your vacation more pleasant: Cash is handy in a few instances where credit card payment is lacking. Airline flights are limited, and try to fly non-stop to St. Thomas and avoid long delays through San Juan, P.R.. Rent a 4-wheel car on St. John as St. Thomas rentals close early, the car ferry to St. John is often full and driving on St. Thomas can be a challenging start to your island experience!
We are grateful for your visit and take pleasure in providing a spectacular vacation.
Perfect Villa and Vacation
This Villa is everything we hoped it would be. We traveled with another family (5 children ages: 10, 8, 6, 6 and 1). We loved how the sleeping quarters were separated, how well the kitchen was stocked, the pool, the hot tub, the view and the ability to walk to the beach. Swimming is very limited from the beach at the house because of the rocks and coral, but we traveled everyday to a different beach on the island. Each beach on the island was amazing and had something unique to offer. We have been many tropical places, St. John has definitely become our NUMBER 1. We rented two Jeeps from Courtesy and were very happy with our service. I would have loved to have a vacuum at the villa to clean up more, that is about the only thing I felt was missing. The people are very friendly and were appreciative of our visit. The only negative/would have done different things that I will mention (not related to the villa) are: a guy at the ferry dock in St Thomas was extremely rude and tried to make us pay him directly for our baggage after we had already purchased our luggage tags. We tip, BUT when you demand that we pay you per baggage the same amount that we just paid the cashier and call me names, I will not tolerate it. He needs to go!! I would have ordered groceries to have them at the villa upon arrival, but that service was not available when we traveled. We also lost power for 24 hours. We used the grill, it was totally fine, but candles would have been nice to have handy. Thank you to Viky and the Wards. Our stay was amazing!!!!
Thank you for the kind words. It is an unusual worker that would be rude on these beautiful islands of grateful people who welcome tourists with open arms!
Our beach is more for surfing when we have good waves and winds but excellent snorkeling during calm seas. We have remedied the solar and battery back up and can provide boutique services and extra cleaning for guests.
We appreciate your feedback to maintain a grand experience on the Love Island!
A beautiful house on a beautiful island!!
First of all, let me just say, we had some doubts going into this on what kind of condition the house would really be in, along with the island, considering the 2 Cat 5 hurricanes that ripped through there in September. With that, we couldn't have been any happier.
This is a one of a kind house in a location that cannot be beat! Along with the incredible views, you also get a house that's within walking distance to a very private beach (5-10 minute walk). Although we didn't go swimming at that particular beach, it was really nice to go for walks up and down the beach area looking for sea glass.
The house is split in to sections with the kitchen, main sitting area and outdoor dining right in the middle. Flanked on either side are 2 sleeping quarters (one with a king size bed and the other with a queen size with an attached room that has 2 twins). Below the room with the king, is another room also with a king. If multiple couples are going, everyone can have their privacy but meet up in the middle for a nice meal or swim.
Amenities were fantastic. The kitchen was fully stocked with pans, plates, cups, spices, etc. Satellite radio was a frequent use of ours with speakers both on the inside and outside of the house. For relaxation, the hot tub provides a nice getaway, big enough to fit 6 adults.
Location is a 15 minute drive to downtown, so it is far enough away from the hustle and bustle but close enough if you wanted to go out to dinner. The good beaches are, at least a 30-45 minute drive depending on which one you wanted to go to.
To go along with this all, we couldn't have asked for nicer neighbors to greet us every now and again. The owners were such a pleasure to deal with as they stayed very engaged even when we were there. Thank you so much, Ward family, for an unforgettable vacation!!!!
Graduation Vacation Celebration
Just returned from a great vacation (5/21-5/28) staying at this villa with my husband and 2 adult children with friends. The house provided us with plenty of room to gather in the evenings or privacy when needed. The trade winds help keep us cool and bug free. After long days of hiking trails and snorkeling we would relax around the pool and grill fish most days. We loved the seclusion and access to the National Park. First night was a full moon and the hot tub location was magical! My favorite spot! The family really enjoyed this piece of heaven. Thank you for opening up your house.
Beautiful villa rental on St. John in the National Park
We stayed here (8/8 - 8/18), my family and my brother's, four adults and four boys ranging in age from 15 to 25. The villa is beautiful, with a lovely view as it is perched on a hillside, nice decor, and comfortably appointed. The on-island manager, Viki, is a gem. She gave us great recommendations and was immediately responsive. The gentle tradewinds made August on St. John comfortable.
The villa is set up with a middle great room (not air conditioned) and an outside eating area near the pool, plus a screened porch. On each side are the bedrooms, the two masters on one side, and on the other, a room with two twins and one with a queen. My older son originally thought he'd sleep on a couch (not wanting to share the queen with his brother), but because of the lack of AC, we rented a cot for him from Island Babies at Viki's recommendation. The ladies at Island Babies are delightful, and I'd suggest using them for any similar needs. Viki's recommendations for island-hopping charters and fishing charters were also spot-on-- the latter got us two nights of fresh mahi mahi dinners!
We ate at home most of the time, and the kitchen is provided with most things a cook would need to turn out a good meal for eight hungry people.
The owner, like most on St. John, is very environmentally conscious. We were told by a repairman who came by that kilowatt-hours on St. John are the third most expensive in the world! We tried to do our part by turning off the AC when not in the bedrooms. This is no problem, as the construction of the house keeps the rooms cool for hours. The island was also in the middle of a drought, so we were careful about water. Even the boys cheered when we had two days of rain!
The beach is accessible by a path. I was not able to make it there due to some mobility issues, but everyone else did. The path leads to a beach that you can't access due to sea urchins and coral, but if you go to the right, there is a clear path into the water. Everyone told me that the beach is truly beautiful. The pool is a delight. When we got overheated, we would just jump in and be cooled off by the tradewinds.
For ten years, we have rented a house on the Outer Banks in August. The kids wanted to do something different. Absolutely everyone was delighted with Reef Bay Villa and we would come back in a heartbeat. Thank you to the owner for sharing his home with us.
Family vacation, adult children
This was a beautiful house located close to town yet secluded, access to the beach was wonderful for us. Enjoyed lounging around the pool with outside eating facilities and hot tub. House was more than comfortable for 8 people . Comfortable sleeping with sound of waves heard even over the air conditioning which was just needed for the evening sleep. Screened porch was great for a get away hideout, but we didn't even have mosquito issues this trip. Thank you for opening your home to us. It was comfortable and lovely. Would definitely come back and recommend this home to friends
