A 15 minute drive along a quiet road from the ferry in Cruz Bay will bring guests to an idyllic island setting. Situated barely above the treetops and merely a 60 second dash to the beach lies the vacation home you will want to revisit.
This new, secluded, spacious eco-friendly Caribbean villa features Thai decor, tropical pastels, lush vegetation and private pool and hot tub. It promotes outdoor living, socializing and simply Being. It offers a wooded trail guarded by deer, birds and crabs reaching a pristine beach within 2-5 minutes walking. Strolling further along the beach brings one to sugar mill ruins, mountain trails to petroglyphs and several additional quiet beaches.
In keeping with the St.John focus on sustainability, the Villa offers opportunity for adults and children to learn about the solar alternative energy, water conservation and the unique flora and fauna.
Plan on lying in bed each morning with sunrise views over the hills and sea, listening to the breaking surf. Enjoy views of the ocean during the day from all parts of the Villa including the pool and hot tub. Swim, snorkel, surf, sunbathe privately or take a hike right below the Villa into the National Park. Evenings gather on the balcony for breezes, sunset hues from billowing clouds, sails and sunny faces!
We would like to share this family vacation paradise!

Just returned from a great vacation (5/21-5/28) staying at this villa with my husband and 2 adult children with friends. The house provided us with plenty of room to gather in the evenings or privacy when needed. The trade winds help keep us cool and bug free. After long days of hiking trails and snorkeling we would relax around the pool and grill fish most days. We loved the seclusion and access to the National Park. First night was a full moon and the hot tub location was magical! My favorite spot! The family really enjoyed this piece of heaven. Thank you for opening up your house.
We stayed here (8/8 - 8/18), my family and my brother's, four adults and four boys ranging in age from 15 to 25. The villa is beautiful, with a lovely view as it is perched on a hillside, nice decor, and comfortably appointed. The on-island manager, Viki, is a gem. She gave us great recommendations and was immediately responsive. The gentle tradewinds made August on St. John comfortable.
The villa is set up with a middle great room (not air conditioned) and an outside eating area near the pool, plus a screened porch. On each side are the bedrooms, the two masters on one side, and on the other, a room with two twins and one with a queen. My older son originally thought he'd sleep on a couch (not wanting to share the queen with his brother), but because of the lack of AC, we rented a cot for him from Island Babies at Viki's recommendation. The ladies at Island Babies are delightful, and I'd suggest using them for any similar needs. Viki's recommendations for island-hopping charters and fishing charters were also spot-on-- the latter got us two nights of fresh mahi mahi dinners!
We ate at home most of the time, and the kitchen is provided with most things a cook would need to turn out a good meal for eight hungry people.
The owner, like most on St. John, is very environmentally conscious. We were told by a repairman who came by that kilowatt-hours on St. John are the third most expensive in the world! We tried to do our part by turning off the AC when not in the bedrooms. This is no problem, as the construction of the house keeps the rooms cool for hours. The island was also in the middle of a drought, so we were careful about water. Even the boys cheered when we had two days of rain!
The beach is accessible by a path. I was not able to make it there due to some mobility issues, but everyone else did. The path leads to a beach that you can't access due to sea urchins and coral, but if you go to the right, there is a clear path into the water. Everyone told me that the beach is truly beautiful. The pool is a delight. When we got overheated, we would just jump in and be cooled off by the tradewinds.
For ten years, we have rented a house on the Outer Banks in August. The kids wanted to do something different. Absolutely everyone was delighted with Reef Bay Villa and we would come back in a heartbeat. Thank you to the owner for sharing his home with us.
This was a beautiful house located close to town yet secluded, access to the beach was wonderful for us. Enjoyed lounging around the pool with outside eating facilities and hot tub. House was more than comfortable for 8 people . Comfortable sleeping with sound of waves heard even over the air conditioning which was just needed for the evening sleep. Screened porch was great for a get away hideout, but we didn't even have mosquito issues this trip. Thank you for opening your home to us. It was comfortable and lovely. Would definitely come back and recommend this home to friends
Reef Bay Villa provided a terrific winter escape destination/family reunion site for myself and three siblings and our spouses. The tans are fading but the memories are not. The villa offered plenty of privacy with its three separate buildings for a large group like ours; we would gather in the central great room/kitchen in the morning, have breakfast on the patio next to the pool, decide on our beach destination of the day, and head out to explore the island. Two bedrooms with a shared bath are on the other side of a small patio from the great room building; the two master suites are on the other side of the pool -- this offers great ventilation, terrific views, and privacy, so you are not all on top of each other. The breezes during our February stay were lovely and we never used A/C. Viky, the concierge, was extremely helpful with meeting us at the ferry, getting us to the car rental place and the grocery store, and orienting us to the villa. When the coffee machine went on the fritz, a new one appeared in the kitchen within a few hours of our call. We felt well taken care of. The villa is immaculate and the Balinese touches are unique and beautiful. There is plenty of seating in the great room for after dinnner socializing. One of our favorite things about staying at Reef Bay Villa was the fact that you didn't need a car to walk along the beach below the house all the way to the Petroglyphs, the Reef Bay Sugar Mill, and Lameshur Bay -- and mostly without seeing another person! We mostly cooked dinners together at the villa in the very well equipped kitchen with spectacular views. We had a nice dinner all together in Cruz Bay the first night at the Banana Deck, and ate at Shipwreck Landing in Coral Bay later in the week after an excellent afternoon snorkel sail with Rick and Robin on their Long Distance yacht, recommended by the guest book at the villa. We did pay the $20 fee to park at Caneel Bay but since we ate lunch at one of the restaurants at this very beautiful resort, the fee was waived. Our favorite beach was Cinnamon Bay, where we snorkelled around Cinnamon Cay offshore. The villa provides a cooler for picnic lunches, beach chairs and snorkel gear so we never had to rent. So easy to just arrive, relax and enjoy the island. Thanks to the Ward family for creating such a lovely retreat on St. John.
Wow. This was our fourth visit to STJ and our third house. But we visited about a dozen homes inside & out on our prior visits. This is without doubt the BEST combo of location, quality & amenities. The views are breathtaking, the sounds of the waves meeting the beach are hypnotic, and the breezes make for ideal comfort even when the temp exceeds 85. Of course air is an option, but nature's breezes were all we needed. The owners go out of their way to provide everything you will need and have a sky high pride of ownership. IF there is an issue, they have a group of locals to solve any issue. We were fortunate to spend nearly two weeks over the holidays with our three daughters and friends rotating through. The room mix is great and even when another room was vacant, no one felt they needed to move. In some homes the 3rd & 4th BRs are an after thought and no one wants to be assigned there. Not here. Even when the second master was open, the girls in 3&4 were content. The furniture is comfy, the kitchen island was a great gathering space, and the recently screened porch area provided a shaded reading hideaway. We encountered sand fleas at the beach, but there was bug spray already in the villa..problem solved. Even the driveway is excellent as a half circle permitting a drive through experience. If you've rented on STJ and had to back into or out of a home, you will know how much easier this makes your visit. If you haven't, look at other homes as you drive around and you'll quickly agree this access is superior. Between the beach, pool, hot tub, and both indoor & outdoor areas, there is really no reason to leave. But we highly recommend you take the drive to Coral Bay and beyond to visit Sloop Jones. Their unique painted shirts are really works of art! we did the 3 hour workshop to experience the process ourselves and make our own. it was great fun and increased our appreciation of his artistry. If you want to hike, this is an excellent jumping off point. Did we have a couple of glitches? Sure, but they were minor, did not distract from our relaxation, and were quickly resolved. We will be back and see no reason to stay anywhere else on STJ. This place is ideal. Visit and you too will not want to leave....
It was our first trip to St John and we felt so lucky to have found the Reef Bay Villa - we can't picture a better place to spend a week. The villa was exceptionally clean and was outfitted with everything our family needed to have a relaxing, adventurous stay on the island. Seven of us stayed at the villa - including our five children ages 15, 13, 9, 7, and 5. The kitchen was completely stocked with all the dishes and cooking items needed to make whatever we wanted. Bedrooms were spacious and beds amazingly comfortable. We could be together in the common spaces when we wanted, but if we or the kids wanted to peel away to read a book, there are plenty of other more private spaces - all work nicely together. Such a great layout! Whether we ate meals at the table poolside, or around the kitchen island, we always had amazing ocean and hillside views. You really have to search to find a view from the villa where you can see other homes. Extremely private and beautiful. The decor and layout of the villa are very peaceful. Night time dips in the hot tub were lovely. We didn't think we'd care about having TV and Netflix - but after long days at the beach, it was nice to have some family downtime. We loved the 'eco-philosophy' of the villa and it gave us a good opportunity to educate our kids on conserving water and thinking about how we used electricity; that said, there was never any issue in running the AC when needed or taking a hot shower when wanted. It was a short skip down to the beach and we saw some deer and even some of the land crabs that sit outside their holes in woods on the way to the beach. We spent nearly every day at other beaches around St John but my kids consistently said they liked coming back to the villa and the Reef Bay side of the island - that it was peaceful and wonderful. We paid attention to other areas, other homes, on the island - but when we come back, we will absolutely stay again at Reef Bay Villa - I don't think we'll even look around anywhere else.
