HULA COVE is an air conditioned studio cottage located on a semi private cove at the very end of the famous Kapoho tide pools. The cottage was built in the 1970s so close to the water that no changes can be made to the house's foot print without moving the house back 20 feet from the water's edge. This is as close as one can get to the water's edge without being on a boat!
HULA COVE has since been updated with satellite TV, king sized bed, two folding mattress for children, fresh linens, a full kitchen and Wi-Fi for lap tops. The house is Hawaiiana in feel with a surfboard hanging on the front of the house and Hula girl pictures and objects d'art around the house.
At night under the swish of the ceiling fans you can literally hear the fish jumping outside your sliding glass doors. So if you want to experience the Hawaii you thought disappeared under the Kona or Maui concrete jungle this could be your Hawaiian fantasy. Weekends at the Tidepools can be quite busy in the summer months and holidays , but you will have a chance to meet the locals visiting from other parts of the Island. Weekdays and off season are much quieter and often you'll have the ponds to yourself during the morning and early evening hours.

' Even though we are on vacation and retired I need to conduct business and communicate with the grand kids. Hula Cove was the best place we stayed on our trip. It was well equiped and the access to the tidepools was fantastic! ' James C.
'It isn't the Four Seasons thankfully! Charming Hawaiian bungalow with all that I needed. I loved the peace and quiet. Lots of palm trees clear blue water and tropical fish. When I closed the bamboo gates to the yard the world disappeared and I enjoyed the Hawaii I always dreamed of. ' Dennis M.

One of the few air conditioned cottages in the area.
I had to send you an email. We love Hula Cove. It is everything we hoped for and more! What a fabulous cottage and location. We are loving every minute. Thank you for all your help and for facilitating our stay here.
I have been snorkelling so much and really it does not get any better than this! I have snorkelled in the Caribbean and it is just as beautiful here. I met a couple of local girls here yesterday just getting into the water and they took me out to the big lagoon with the white sand. It was incredible. Today I went back by myself and enjoyed it again!
Last night we slept to the sound of the frogs and rain - just heaven. I don't have to tell you all about it as you already know.
We love this place and already are talking about coming back!!
Great location for access to tidal pools.
Very comfortable and cheerful place to stay.
Super clean and well maintained.
Definitely one of our favourites.
This was our second visit to Hawaii and we decided to spend all of our time on the Big Island.
After searching through Home and Away's listings on the east side of the island we chose Hula Cove. It was a great choice. The accommodations were first rate, perfect for a couple. Everything about the house and its location was accurately portrayed in the property's description.
The Kapoho tide pool became the focal point for our stay. Tide pool snorkeling was a great way to start and end each day.
Mike, the property manager, was very responsive to our questions prior to our booking of the property and he provided an in depth document about the operation of the house, points of local interest, key local spots for dining, shopping and sight seeing.
The location of the property is perfect for checking out Volcano National Park to the west and for exploring Hilo to the north.
5 star accommodation! Hula Cove has it all. If you're looking for a peaceful relaxing ocean side experience I recommend Hula Cove. The moment you arrive it feels like home with everything you need including snorkeling gear & bicycles. Step off the patio & into the Tide pool to see the abundant array of tropical fish. At night you are serenaded by birds & crockies and the stars are amazing! Best vacation ever! Thank you❤
Great little place by the ocean. The tide pools make you feel like you're swimming in an aquarium.
We could not have asked for a more perfect cottage and location. Lounging and eating on the deck, enjoying the sunrise and sunset everyday, viewing the Southern Cross on the southern horizon at night, and snorkeling right in our backyard everyday. Pahoa town is close and Volcanoes National Park is an easy drive as is Hilo. Pahoa town offers two excellent grocery stores and several restaurants. We plan to return often.
We fell in love with this cottage as soon as we stepped in the door. The view off the lanai was incredible and the cottage itself was quaint, clean and well-appointed. The fridge was well-stocked with condiments, there were coffee beans and a grinder, they provided reef-friendly sunscreen and many other items. The bed was very comfy too! The lanai had big rattan chairs with thick cushions and a picnic table for meals. The storage shed held the washer and dryer and many water toys. The snorkelling in the tide pools was great fun. There are steps into the tide pools for easy entry and exit. The water is generally very calm although higher tide is best time to snorkel so you can travel further out. But even at low tide, the tidal pool off the lanai is a great dpot for a little dip to cool off! Adjacent to the lanai is the public entry spot to the tide pools, so there is a lot of foot traffic. But everone we met was friendly and respectful of the private properties in the area. It is a bit of a drive to get groceries or go out for supper, but the peacefulness of the cottage more than made up for it!
