Kapoho House Rental Photos and Description

House, 1 Bedroom, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2)

HULA COVE is an air conditioned studio cottage located on a semi private cove at the very end of the famous Kapoho tide pools. The cottage was built in the 1970s so close to the water that no changes can be made to the house's foot print without moving the house back 20 feet from the water's edge. This is as close as one can get to the water's edge without being on a boat!

HULA COVE has since been updated with satellite TV, king sized bed, two folding mattress for children, fresh linens, a full kitchen and Wi-Fi for lap tops. The house is Hawaiiana in feel with a surfboard hanging on the front of the house and Hula girl pictures and objects d'art around the house.

At night under the swish of the ceiling fans you can literally hear the fish jumping outside your sliding glass doors. So if you want to experience the Hawaii you thought disappeared under the Kona or Maui concrete jungle this could be your Hawaiian fantasy. Weekends at the Tidepools can be quite busy in the summer months and holidays , but you will have a chance to meet the locals visiting from other parts of the Island. Weekdays and off season are much quieter and often you'll have the ponds to yourself during the morning and early evening hours.

' Even though we are on vacation and retired I need to conduct business and communicate with the grand kids. Hula Cove was the best place we stayed on our trip. It was well equiped and the access to the tidepools was fantastic! ' James C.

'It isn't the Four Seasons thankfully! Charming Hawaiian bungalow with all that I needed. I loved the peace and quiet. Lots of palm trees clear blue water and tropical fish. When I closed the bamboo gates to the yard the world disappeared and I enjoyed the Hawaii I always dreamed of. ' Dennis M.

Guestbook comments from the owner

I had to send you an email. We love Hula Cove. It is everything we hoped for and more! What a fabulous cottage and location. We are loving every minute. Thank you for all your help and for facilitating our stay here.

I have been snorkelling so much and really it does not get any better than this! I have snorkelled in the Caribbean and it is just as beautiful here. I met a couple of local girls here yesterday just getting into the water and they took me out to the big lagoon with the white sand. It was incredible. Today I went back by myself and enjoyed it again!

Last night we slept to the sound of the frogs and rain - just heaven. I don't have to tell you all about it as you already know.

We love this place and already are talking about coming back!!

Thanks again!

This cottage could not have been better. We had many plans for our stay on the Hilo side, but once we arrived at Hula Cove, we decided to just stay put and enjoy the fantastic snorkeling right outside our door. The place was clean, well laid out, and simply beautiful. I wish we had been able to stay longer!

Location, location, location!

If you want to relax and get away, this is the place for you! Clean, well kept cottage right on the waters of the Kapoho tide pools! Enchanting nature sounds at night include the whistling frogs and torrential down pours that lead to stunning views and unbelievable beauty. You don't even have to snorkel to see the tropical fish in the waters right outside on your lanai. Planning our next trip already! Geckos welcome!!

Cute cottage in a great location

  • 5 of 5

We arrived after dark and in the morning were happy to see this wonderful property right on the tide[pools and how beautiful the area is. The cottage is perfect for two people and offers all the amenities for snorkeling in the tide pools...even sunscreen! The fish and coral are abundant. Much of our time was spent on the lanai watching the tides rise and lower especially as the full moon approached. In the nearby town of Pahoa we enjoyed Kaleo's restaurant with fresh fish daily, Luquilos Mexican restaurant and extra delicious BBQ pulled pork at Carrisal Cuisine. Shopping at the Malama market was very handy. Mike was outstanding during the entire process answering all our questions in a timely manner. We definitely recommend this very clean and neatly decorated cottage and hope to come back someday.

Magical hideaway

  • 5 of 5

I stayed 2 nights at Hula Cove midweek. I arrived to welcoming Hawaiian music in the cottage which was right at the edge of the tide pools. I am an avid snorkeler and some would say obsessed with tropical fish. I was in heaven at the cottage as I was able to snorkel at sunrise and sunset and was the only person in the tide pools. It was zen like and almost meditative to swim in such a magical place. The fish life and water clarity were better than expected. I found the pool adjacent to the cottage had several moray eels, butterfly fish, wrasse and tangs. Just prior to sunset, many fish hibernate for the night and I found parrot fish and the hawaiian grouper taking naps. Meanwhile the eels will be more active and I found them free swimmimg. During the middle of the day, people will be sharing the tide pools and hang out below your deck so don't expect total seclusion. I made friends with people and helped an elderly woman snorkel for the first time which was pure joy. Careful on the lava rocks as very slippery. The bed in the cottage was perhaps one of the most comfortable I've ever slept on. The pillows heavenly. Cottage is stocked with everything you need. I stopped for groceries in Pahoa and cooked or barbecued all of my meals. During the day, it will get toasty so if you are not in the water, this is a good time to go see nearby sights in Hilo or venture up Red Road. The cottage is secured behind a large gate and the deck and side yard also secured with locks so I felt safe. I was traveling solo before visiting friends on the island. The only downside I experienced was no reflection of the cottage but a VERY large group arrived my last night next door and they were loud until midnight. I'm a nightowl so adjusted to it and the frogs soon lured me to sleep. I will hopefully return to the cottage again and will book 3 nights next time. Snorkel before breakfast and dinner and you will be in bliss.

Owner's Response: Aloha and thank you for your introspective review of Hula Cove and the Kapoho tide pools. The new King size bed is a new and extremely comfortable addition to the cottage as well as the recently installed air conditioning for those summer nights when the trade winds stop blowing. We hope you will have another opportunity to revisit Hula Cove and the tide pools. Mahalo, Mike M

Beautiful Location on the water!

  • 5 of 5

We are locals and came to the other side of the island to celebrate our anniversary and see some lava. Wish we had more time to enjoy the place, it really is beautiful - just as pictured. Right on the tide pools, and it was wonderful looking at that view. Lloyd and Mindy left us a nice note, fresh flowers and wine, very welcoming and made our celebration more special. Perfect cottage for a couple. Thanks we really enjoyed our stay!!
