HULA COVE, Kapoho Tidepool's Waterfront Cottage From $189.00 per night*

Bedrooms 1
Property type house
Minimum Stay 2 - 7 nights

About the property

House, 1 Bedroom, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2)

HULA COVE is an air conditioned studio cottage located on a semi private cove at the very end of the famous Kapoho tide pools. The cottage was built in the 1970s so close to the water that no changes can be made to the house's foot print without moving the house back 20 feet from the water's edge. This is as close as one can get to the water's edge without being on a boat!

HULA COVE has since been updated with satellite TV, king sized bed, two folding mattress for children, fresh linens, a full kitchen and Wi-Fi for lap tops. The house is Hawaiiana in feel with a surfboard hanging on the front of the house and Hula girl pictures and objects d'art around the house.

At night under the swish of the ceiling fans you can literally hear the fish jumping outside your sliding glass doors. So if you want to experience the Hawaii you thought disappeared under the Kona or Maui concrete jungle this could be your Hawaiian fantasy. Weekends at the Tidepools can be quite busy in the summer months and holidays , but you will have a chance to meet the locals visiting from other parts of the Island. Weekdays and off season are much quieter and often you'll have the ponds to yourself during the morning and early evening hours.

' Even though we are on vacation and retired I need to conduct business and communicate with the grand kids. Hula Cove was the best place we stayed on our trip. It was well equiped and the access to the tidepools was fantastic! ' James C.

'It isn't the Four Seasons thankfully! Charming Hawaiian bungalow with all that I needed. I loved the peace and quiet. Lots of palm trees clear blue water and tropical fish. When I closed the bamboo gates to the yard the world disappeared and I enjoyed the Hawaii I always dreamed of. ' Dennis M.

We loved our stay at Hula Cove! Everything we needed was readily available, the location was absolutely perfect, with snorkeling right off of the back deck.

Cozy cottage on the water Feb 6-13, 2018

  • 5 of 5

We loved staying at your place! Well furnished, complete kitchen, everything we needed. It was great being able to go snorkeling just off the back steps. Thanks for the big selection of snorkel gear. We arrived after dark but your directions lead us right there. Morning coffee on the lanai listening to the birds and the fish jump, watching the geckos, wonderful. The star gazing was good too. Haven't seen the Southern Cross in quite awhile. Even saw a spectacular fireball descending the second night. People watching was good too.

The Pahoa Farmers Market on Sunday is a must do, but don't eat before going, there are plenty of things to try there. Speaking of food, Kaleo's Bar & Grill and Ning's Thai Cuisine in Pahoa were both good, thanks for the recommendations. The Kilauea Volcano Park and Chain of Craters Road are worth doing. The ranger lead talk/walk in the park was informative and entertaining. The Akatsuka Orchid Gardens just outside Volcano was very interesting too. Hilo was also a fun visit, the farmers market and Two Ladies Kitchen were a hit. And of course had to try the samplings at Mehana Brewing Company. Closer to home Lava Tree State Park and the Red Road were good. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Hula Cove. Thank you so much for sharing.

Most totally awesome best ever place to stay.

  • 5 of 5

Most totally awesome best place ever to stay. If you want the ocean right at your feet just off the back porch, then this is it. If you seek an escape from the hustle and bustle of every day life, then this is the place. If you seek something comfortable and charming with lots of thoughtful convenience provided, then this is it. It you seek to experience the magic and wonderment of swimming in clear waters and seeing fabulous diverse fish species snorkeling the day away, then this is the place. Hula cove provided such special memories for me and can't say enough how much of a pleasure it was to stay there.

Hula Cove is Paradise! Location, location, location!!!

  • 5 of 5

Hula Cove is extremely well-maintained and in an idyllic, paradisal setting. The owner's have made a real effort to make sure that you have everything needed for a carefree vacation, from bicycles to coffee and filters for the coffee maker. Very well maintained, clean, and updated. Paradise Cove is the perfect cottage for those looking to get away from crowds, noise, and tourist-oriented attractions on Hawai'i. It is secluded. That means you have further to go to get to restaurants, etc. but it also means you feel very protected from the outside world. It is perfectly situated at the furthest landward extent of the Kapoho Tidal pools. Literally right outside the door, steps away is incredible snorkeling opportunities and hardly anyone else to bother you. Not deserted, but certainly not crowded. we already miss it and hope to return.

How Dreams Come True!

  • 5 of 5

The Hula Cove cottage is a terrific place to spend a day or two or three or a month :-) taking in the natural beauty of the Kapoho Tide Pools and exploring the Puna region. The cottage is immaculately clean, beautifully furnished, and the hosts are helpful and communicative. The kitchen is stocked with all the little things you might forget on your visit: oil and vinegar, good-quality kitchen utensils, dishware, and cookware -- would you believe the Hula Cove has a full set of good quality sharp knives available for its guests? The bed and bedding are divine, the cottage's layout is perfect, the bathroom is roomy and immaculate, and features a full range of bathroom needs, from tons of towels to a good first aid kit. The Hula Cove even supplies reef-friendly sun screen, to protect the sea life in the tide pools. The best value on lodging we have ever found in Hawaii, we felt like we got what we paid for in spades! Thanks Mike especially for your helpfulness. Shannon and Jeanne, Portland, OR

Owner's Response: Mahalo Shannon and Jeanne for your lovely review of Hula Cove. Even though we are a small cottage we try and pack a "punch" ( Hawaiian ) into everything we do for our guests with our bedding, linens and special requests. We are one of the very few houses in the area with air conditioning which is sometimes necessary in the summer months when the trade winds fail to cool. Shannon, I hope you got that last snorkel in on your last day. Aloha, Mike

What makes this house unique

One of the few air conditioned cottages in the area.

Guestbook comments from the owner

I had to send you an email. We love Hula Cove. It is everything we hoped for and more! What a fabulous cottage and location. We are loving every minute. Thank you for all your help and for facilitating our stay here.

I have been snorkelling so much and really it does not get any better than this! I have snorkelled in the Caribbean and it is just as beautiful here. I met a couple of local girls here yesterday just getting into the water and they took me out to the big lagoon with the white sand. It was incredible. Today I went back by myself and enjoyed it again!

Last night we slept to the sound of the frogs and rain - just heaven. I don't have to tell you all about it as you already know.

We love this place and already are talking about coming back!!

Thanks again!
