HULA COVE, Kapoho Tidepool's Waterfront Cottage From $179.00 per night*

Bedrooms 1
Property type house
Minimum Stay 2 - 7 nights

About the property

House, 1 Bedroom, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2)

HULA COVE is an air conditioned studio cottage located on a semi private cove at the very end of the famous Kapoho tide pools. The cottage was built in the 1970s so close to the water that no changes can be made to the house's foot print without moving the house back 20 feet from the water's edge. This is as close as one can get to the water's edge without being on a boat!

HULA COVE has since been updated with satellite TV, king sized bed, two folding mattress for children, fresh linens, a full kitchen and Wi-Fi for lap tops. The house is Hawaiiana in feel with a surfboard hanging on the front of the house and Hula girl pictures and objects d'art around the house.

At night under the swish of the ceiling fans you can literally hear the fish jumping outside your sliding glass doors. So if you want to experience the Hawaii you thought disappeared under the Kona or Maui concrete jungle this could be your Hawaiian fantasy. Weekends at the Tidepools can be quite busy in the summer months and holidays , but you will have a chance to meet the locals visiting from other parts of the Island. Weekdays and off season are much quieter and often you'll have the ponds to yourself during the morning and early evening hours.

' Even though we are on vacation and retired I need to conduct business and communicate with the grand kids. Hula Cove was the best place we stayed on our trip. It was well equiped and the access to the tidepools was fantastic! ' James C.

'It isn't the Four Seasons thankfully! Charming Hawaiian bungalow with all that I needed. I loved the peace and quiet. Lots of palm trees clear blue water and tropical fish. When I closed the bamboo gates to the yard the world disappeared and I enjoyed the Hawaii I always dreamed of. ' Dennis M.

What makes this house unique

One of the few air conditioned cottages in the area.

Guestbook comments from the owner

I had to send you an email. We love Hula Cove. It is everything we hoped for and more! What a fabulous cottage and location. We are loving every minute. Thank you for all your help and for facilitating our stay here.

I have been snorkelling so much and really it does not get any better than this! I have snorkelled in the Caribbean and it is just as beautiful here. I met a couple of local girls here yesterday just getting into the water and they took me out to the big lagoon with the white sand. It was incredible. Today I went back by myself and enjoyed it again!

Last night we slept to the sound of the frogs and rain - just heaven. I don't have to tell you all about it as you already know.

We love this place and already are talking about coming back!!

Thanks again!

Great snorkeling out the back door!

  • 5 of 5

This is a really nice sized studio in a beautiful little cove. Great for 1 or 2 adults and small kids. Immaculate and comfortable. Mike supplies guests with many thoughtful touches such as coral safe sunscreen, floaties and reef shoes in a variety of sizes. Snorkeling was great and changed with the tide. If you are looking for solitude and a Castaway atmosphere you will find that between the hours of 7PM and 7AM. If you like to meet people (locals with kids, music, dogs and tourists) then you will find that during daytime hours. It was pretty busy mid week, mid July. The cove is super swimmer friendly. Vacationland is a really nice, quiet neighborhood. The Red Road was a beautiful drive and a big bonus splurge for us was the early morning lava boat tour where we watched the flow reach the ocean. The dock was only 10 minutes away.

Beautiful hideaway

  • 5 of 5

Hula cove was the perfect getaway. The house is just right for 2 people. It is well stocked with supplies and has a true island feel.

The main attraction is the aquarium just outside your door! The tide pools are magnificent! We enjoyed a relaxing snorkel (or 2) everyday with a wide variety of fish and eels. The water is calm and clear. We will definitely be back!

Hula Cove is like having your own vacation home

  • 5 of 5

This was my second time staying at Hula Cove, the first being in May 2009. When my husband's 40th birthday, our 1 year marriage anniversary and 8 years of being together all fell working a month of each other I was a little stumped on where to take him since he works in sales for Hilton SF/Parc55. I knew he needed to get away from hotels and disconnect for a while.

We both had a great time and the sunrise and sunsets can light up and make the clouds, if there are any, the most beautiful colors ever seen. The cottage has everything you need and a market to buy groceries is very close also. You may think that a hotel is cheaper, but trust me, it is not cheaper when you buy your groceries and cook your meals, and grill out every night.

Also take advantage of the snorkel gear and see the beautiful fish swimming around. They are smaller in the cottage tide pool but if you swim out further you will see that the fish get larger and beautiful.

Enjoy this place and respect the ocean and the coral reefs. Please use the sunscreen they provide as it does no harm to the reefs. I could go on and on, but you just have to experience it for yourself. One more thing, please be careful of the baby geckos when sliding the doors open to the Lanai and the palm tree to the left of the lanai is covered with them fighting, playing and hiding from the birds that are trying to feed off them. Enjoy and Aloha!

Heavenly Hula Cove

  • 5 of 5

This was my second stay at the lovely Hula Cove cottage. The cottage is at the first tide pool entrance which allows for easy access for great snorkeling. While others have to hike in over lava rock, you just literally step off lanai into water. Home is very cozy with everything you need. Spent most time in the water or on lanai. I preferred snorkeling in evening and early morning when you have the tide pools to yourself. I got great photos of an octopus, butterfly fish and a large Moray eel. We did the early.morning Lava Boat tour which departs 10 minutes.away. What an amazing experience. We also did a day trip down beautiful red road and went for a dip in the hot pond also nearby. There is a sign inside the cottage that reads, "This is my happy place." It really is and I'll be back for a 3rd visit. Highlights were star gazing off of lanai to sound's of only nature and the beautiful underwater world at your doorstep.
