Now even better with new king size bed and more food prep space?

Be sure and check out all of the reviews from previous guests.

This Grand Champions hotel suite/studio is just a short walk to the ocean. This is our personal condominium, and when we are not on the property one of our neighbors will be available to take care of any problems. Please check our rental calendar before putting in an inquiry, as this will save us both time; we keep it up to the minute.

The studio features a large bedroom/sitting area with a comfortable brand new king size bed and a full size futon, a kitchenette, full bathroom, washer/dryer and a lanai featuring tropical garden views - with a waterfall and stream in the winter months. While it is a ground floor unit, the lanai is raised about six feet off ground level (no outside access). There are several guest parking spaces available right in front of the condominium. Floor space is approximately 500 square feet. See below for other details. This is one of the best units in the complex, quiet because it is an end unit and on also on the edge of the property, and shaded for most of the day so it is cool even in the summer.

This is the most affordable studio condominium in one of the finest resorts in the world. The unit has not been updated very much, but that is part of why you pay 1/4 of what the hotel down the street charges. You get a clean place to rest or hang out by the pool and you can walk to all of the other great stuff.

The Grand Champions property features two pools with whirlpool spas, barbecue facilities and lush gardens. It is surrounded by Wailea's award winning Blue Golf Course and Tennis Club. Ranked in the top 50 best resort tennis facilities, the club boasts 11 plexi-pave courts, three lit courts for night play, a stadium court, and a full service pro shop. Guests will receive preferential golf and tennis rates/reservations at the Wailea and Makena Resorts.

Located in the heart of the Wailea Resort area, on Maui's sunny south shore, Grand Champions is just a short walk to the Shops at Wailea, and minutes from Ulua Beach (ranked eighth in the nation - world class snorkeling & diving too), Keawakapu, Mokapu, Ulua, Wailea Beach, and Polo Beaches, spa facilities, and award winning restaurants.

Grand Champions is a private enclave in the midst of Wailea that offers its guests all the wealth of this world-class resort's environment and a touch of seclusion that sets it quietly apart. The architecture is classic, the environment peaceful, the landscaping lush, and the views are exceptional - including the world's largest dormant volcano, Haleakala.

Kihei is a few minutes to the north. This is much more of a busy, touristy town. You can find lots of stores there to get groceries and other stuff; and some good, inexpensive restaurants. There is also mainland style shopping center a few miles up the Piilani Highway, with and Outback Steakhouse, a Blockbuster Video and other name brand stores; including a Safeway for food supplies.

Discover Hawaii's fascinating undersea world on a snorkel or dive trip. Explore the beautiful Hawaiian waters aboard a private yacht charter or observe nature on a whale watching tour. For those who would like to remain on land, Hawaii offers adventurous bike tours and eco-tourism hikes. Visit Ahihi-Kina'u Natural Area Reserve, Kealia Pond Wildlife Refuge, or the Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale Sanctuary. Maui is a treasure of cultural and natural sights just waiting to be explored.

Check in time is 3:00; check out time is 11:00. You MUST be out of the condo by 11:00 so it can be cleaned for the next occupant unless we have agreed to a late checkout in advance. Absent that pre-agreement, if you are not out of the unit by 11:00, you will be charged an additional days rental. Please note that if there are back-to-back, or in and out on the same day, situations created by your reservation, this may cause my cleaner to be overbooked, and you may be asked to accept a later check in time, such as 6:00. If this is necessary, a $50 credit will be given.

This condo is Non Smoking, including the lanai area.

There are no pets allowed in the condo complex.

Cancellations and refunds:

A $300 Deposit is required to hold the condo for all reservations. For rentals longer than three weeks, a larger deposit may be required. This deposit will not be refunded for cancellations within 2 months of arrival. If you just shift a booking in the same general timeframe we can carryover the deposit. If you just cancel, you can apply half of the deposit to a future rental. The balance is due one month before arrival. If the balance is not paid at that time, the reservation may be canceled. Once full payment is made, and if you have to cancel up to 2 weeks before arrival, we will refund one half of the total payment. After that, no refund of any kind.

Hawaii tax numbers are TA-032-821-2480-01 and GE-032-821-2480-01

About The Owner

----

The Owner purchased this condo in 2005

Why The Owner chose Maui

We purchased this condo, which is part of a 2 BR lockout unit, as our retirement home. Of course that hasn't happened as soon as we were expecting. We stayed in a similar unit one summer and fell in love with the area. We were looking for a place that would be great for vacations but also someplace that we could see ourselves living some day.

What makes this condo unique

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had a great time! We're actually sitting on the runway about to head back to the main land (we went to Honolulu for a few days) and are very sad that our vacation has come to an end. The condo was fantastic and we really enjoyed our stay. Again, we had a terrific stay and all the information provided in advance and in the unit was very helpful. I will definitely recommend the location to friends (and we'll be checking for availability the next time we are in Maui, I'm sure).

Great location and wonderful privacy

  • 5 of 5

This is one of the best deals in Wailea, which can be pricey! It's a large studio with a lovely deck completely surrounded by dense vegetation and gorgeous flowers. Even though it is in a condo complex, visually you feel like you're there alone (you can sometimes hear your neighbors, as in any complex). The room is large and open with wood floors and calm colors for the art and furniture. There's a small kitchen with a frig, microwave, coffee maker, toaster. Not really for cooking, but enough to do the basics (there's a hot plate, but we didn't try it). The bathroom is large and clean, and the location is easy walking distance to stores, restaurants, beaches, etc. A great set-up to enjoy this end of the island without blowing your whole budget. A side note -- often condos are stocked with the basics (salt, pepper, oil, first day's coffee, etc) -- didn't see any of that here. It's not a big deal, just wanted to give you a heads up if you're going to the grocery store before arriving. There was chocolate, however, as well as a range of flippers and snorkel gear, mats for the beach, beach chairs, etc. So nice not to have to rent gear!

Just like home...only better!!

  • 5 of 5

We rented the studio for our girls, who are young adults and enjoy their own space. It was perfect!! They enjoyed spending time on the lanai listening to the birds and running water in the little stream behind the condo. It was also nice for them to be able to keep snacks and drinks in the kitchenette. The washer and dryer allowed them to keep up with their own laundry. Condo is very handy to grills and pool. Just a short walk to the beach. Clean and well decorated. I don't think we could have asked for anything more!!

Perfect Spot!

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I stayed in the studio in September of 2016. The location was perfect for us, near the Shops at Wailea, beaches, and Kihei. The unit had all the amenities that we needed. The place is quiet and cozy with a secluded balcony. The beach chairs, umbrella, snorkel equipment were added bonuses. The pool areas were clean and quiet. Mark, the owner was easy to communicate with and replied quickly. Please don't refer this unit to anyone- we hope to stay again and want it to be available!

Very smelly and outdated!!

  • 1 of 5

We were left very disappointed by the whole experience. I understand that it was only a studio, but it was very smelly, the towels were old( we ended up buying our own), the bathroom is very old and mold like smelling, the shower curtain was old and very dirty, with mold on the bottom of it. We paid over a grand for our stay and it amazes me that all that money can only buy you bad smell and mold. Not to mention the very uncomfortable bed (mattress was stained too, yuck) and pillows. Both my wife and I woke up having really bad back pain from it. The bed sheets were plain and simple ugly and very heavy. Like I said, it amazes me to think that it is okay to ask for all that money and get nothing but crap in return. The only positive thing about the place, was all that beauty we both admired from the balcony. Other than that, this place is way overrated, will never book it again.

Owner's Response: As someone who really tries to provide a good experience it really bothers me when someone doesn't let me know right away when they are not happy with something when they first encounter it so I can try to help them. In this case they waited for almost a month after they left, so not much I can do now for these folks. We will certainly take action on shower curtain, the towels and sheets because you get complacent and things wear out. And check out the smell, though the unit was empty for a week before they arrived and sometimes things get a little musty in the tropics. We try to air it out before arrivals. We get probably one complaint every couple of years on our beds because backs are special and you can't please everyone. This person is some kind of contractor and was doing a remodel at the hotel down the street. Agree that at our unit has not been updated, which is partly why you can get 11 nights in the best resort in the world for $1000. The hotel charges 3 or for times that. We have lots of pictures in the listing so people know what to expect. But I can understand his perspective on things might be different than our average guest. Or maybe he just thinks people should stay in hotels. Anyway, sorry for the bad experience but generally I stand by our overall rating of 4.8. But we can always do better so I appreciate the specific feedback and we will take action.

Perfect location!

  • 4 of 5

The studio was comfortable and clean. We absolutely loved the location! My husband particularly enjoyed the golf course (although he said that there was no discount for guests of Grad Champions :S).

We both loved the deck and the very large bathroom! We were in Maui for a wedding and the groomsmen got ready at our place. It was quite roomy.

It's an awesome deal for the location! Would definitely recommend in the future!

Owner's Response: I am not sure what the issue was with the golf, I have rechecked and there are discounts for resort guest. You can see the rates at the Wailea golf courses rates website. The amount of the discount does vary by season and time of day.

Clean but bare bones unit. 'Top Ranked Studio' is dubious.

  • 2 of 5

My husband and I have stayed in multiple condos at the Grand Champions and LOVE this complex. Wailea dreaminess at a very affordable price point. This particular condo was one of the cleanest we have ever experienced here, and the location in the complex is lovely. The lanai faces the quiet outer perimeter, with only the birds and the gardens for company.

This was a short stay for us and we did not intend to do any cooking while we were here, and that's a good thing because the condo itself is the least stocked condo that we have ever been in, I think salt and pepper were literally the only condiments we came across. The dishes were few, with chips and permanent stains. You would have a very difficult time putting even a breakfast together here.

The furnishings were adequate, and there were the usual extras...beach chairs (they were brand new actually) umbrella, some beach toys.

The remote for the tv did not work, and the owner had sent me a check in email saying there was a computer for our use in the suite, so we didn't bring our laptop or any chargers, expecting there would be a place to plug into the computer. There was no computer. We suspect he may have sent us an email designated for a different suite. However, it was an inconvenience and irritating to have to go and purchase chargers for our phones etc because of the error.

The bed was comfortable. The air conditioner works well.

The biggest complaint we had with this unit was with the owner and his curt communication style. I sent him a half dozen emails and never received one response that was actually written by him, only VRBO payment requests, when we added on extra days. The only time he sent an email with actual words was to request my flight times and then a follow-up email to REMIND me not to try and check in until 4pm. (which, incidentally, is an hour later than the posted time of 3 pm)

We found this owner to be brusque and standoffish and borderline rude. Fortunately, for his sake, he has a wonderful lady named Lorraine that manages his property at the site and she is his saving grace. I have dealt with Lorraine on a number of other occasions and she is helpful and lovely and I was ecstatic to see her name on a 'Call if you need anything' note in the suite.

In summary, this condo is best suited to a couple who does not plan to cook, who needs a place to shower and sleep and sit on the lanai with coffee in the morning. There are better units in this complex.

Owner's Response: Wow. I think this is the most (only?) negative review I have ever received on any of my condos. I don't really know how to respond other than I don't agree with most of the comments - except that Lorraine is wonderful. She is! The biggest problem, or than ME is the computer issue. When I first heard about this, not from the guest, but from Lorraine, I verified that I had sent her the correct fact sheet, and that it does not say there is a computer. It does mention a computer CABLE to connect yours to the TV - perhaps she got confused by that. When I learned of the issues, I asked Lorraine to give her access to the computer in the unit next door while there were no guests there. Never heard back. As far as ME goes, I can only ask that you review the over 100 positives reviews for this unit and the 1 br next door (70450). A lot of them mention ME in very positive comments. When people book through VRBO, VRBO more than encourages owners to respond through the site. I sent her a number of messages that way. But I am not a big fan of that corporate mode, and my phone is always on (650-218-8463). I sent her 6 personal emails before she arrived. As she mentioned, I cheerfully accommodated the change in her stay dates on relatively short notice,,. Ironically, that request was of course made through the "inpersonal" VRBO site.... Again, the guest never contacted me to talk about any of this. I sent her, as I always do, a personal email the other day after she checked out asking how things went. I didn't get a response and today I see the review. Again, Wow! BTW, looking at the reviews, this is literally the best reviewed studio in all of Wailea, not just in this complex. As she said, extremely clean, comfortable, and a great view. Lots of great things but then a 2 start rating? Clearly her expectations were not met, and now that I know the full extent of that if I thought any of this was my fault I would offer some compensation. Maybe I would have if she had at least contacted me "personally", as I am actually pretty big on customer service, again as you can see from all of the other feedback. Bummer! Thanks for reading Mark
