The best short break cottage around

  • 5 of 5

We've stopped in a few cottage / barns for short stay trips, but this really was the best we've experienced to date.

From the warm, helpful and down to earth welcome through the to facilities of the barn, it was the perfect home from home for a weekend break.

Tideswell itself is a gem set in the Peak District. Not many quaint small villages benefit from as many good pubs, cafes, takeaways and an outstanding fine dining restaurant.

Chloe is a genuine, thoughtful owner who went above and beyond to make the stay perfect. Thank you!!!

A lovely cosy cottage nestled in tranquil Derbyshire village.

  • 5 of 5

Stanley Barn provided an ideal half-term break for 3 of us and our dog in October. The cottage has the right balance of cosiness, quirkiness and is well situated for easy access to both the White and Dark Peaks, and also the many the Derbyshire towns and villages.

On our first day we caught the tail end of a storm which we enjoyed by snuggling down in the cottage, warm and cosy listening to the wind and the rain, what a lovely feeling. The cottage is well furnished and has all the mod cons you need. The split level kitchen works really well and opens the property up so you get the balance of small cottage cosiness with out feeling cramped. The bedroom is a good size and the beds are comfortable. Our teenage daughter liked the mezzanine bedroom, something different and quirky.

Although the kitchen has everything you need to cook we took advantage of the many pubs in Tideswell, and even a take-away, which was delivered to the cottage (from Hope Valley).

Although all the pubs were good we particularly liked the Red Lion at Litton (a small village 15 minutes walk away), a wonderful pub with home made food.

There is wonderful walking around Tideswell which we took full advantage of, especially as the weather turned nice after our first night in Tideswell.

Chloe is a wonderful host and provided us with a lovely welcome pack. The cottage was very clean, and although we had no need to, we felt that we could have contacted her at any time if we hit a problem. Chloe has a wealth of knowledgeable information on the area and there was an impressive amount of literature that covers almost anything you might want to do or know about the area.

We had a lovely time, which went all too quickly. Would definitely return to Stanley Barn.

Lovely quaint cottage.

A lovely cottage in the heart of Tideswell, just right as a base to explore the surrounding area. The cottage contained everything we needed for our stay, a real home away from home.

Loved this place!

  • 5 of 5

We so enjoyed our stay in Tideswell, driving there from London was quite the experience. We were so happy that Matt met us in town and rode with us to the home and showed us around. Chloe was so concerned about us having a good time and letting us know things to do in the area, we felt like we were visiting a friends home. The place was clean and cozy and we really felt like we were in England, loving the view from the kitchen window. Our stay here will be one of our favorite memories of England!

TIDESWELL IS CENTRAL IN THE PEAK DISTRICT, a popular base for accessing all areas of the National Park.

As well as being home to abundant wildlife, plants and birds, the Peak offers a variety of activities including walking, cycling, climbing, horse riding, sight-seeing, gliding of all types, bird-watching, pot-holing, abseiling and much more.

You can walk from the barn door into the limestone dales around the village, and the many gritstone edges and moors are only 10 to 15 minutes’ drive.

Between May-September the local villages have their well-dressing wakes week festivities. There are processions, craft fairs, torchlight parades, brass bands, Morris dancing and a variety of fun runs and other games.

A 10 minute drive to the old Millers Dale Railway Station will connect you with the Monsal walking and cycling trail where you can hire electric bicycles and explore the entire 8.5 mile length of the trail from Wye Dale near Buxton to Coombs Viaduct at Bakewell, following the beautiful valley of the River Wye through some of the Peak District's most spectacular limestone dales.

Tideswell really is a wonderful place to take a well-deserved relaxing break and to explore the Peak District.
