Arcos de la Frontera Apartment Rental Photos and Description

2 bebdroom, 1 bathroom duplex apartment in the heart of the Old Quarter

For eight years we have been welcoming guests from around the world to Casa Vista Castillo, our beautiful & unique holiday rental, perched on the famous cliff-edge of Arcos de la Frontera, an inland Andalusian fortress town steeped in centuries of history. Located in the heart of the "casco antiguo" or old quarter, the house offers seclusion, tranquillity & fantastic eye level bird life, but with the benefit that all the action such as bars, restaurants, local shops & banks are on your door-step.

The property´s dramatic location gives the house it´s name, Casa Vista Castillo, as both the terrace & bedrooms benefit from uninterrupted views of Arcos' 11th century Moorish castle, sweeping views of the countryside, fabulous birdlife & unforgettable evening sunsets. Two french doors open up onto the terrace from the living area, giving the house a comfortable & easy flow. No matter rain or shine, the view is always dramatic & never fails to delight our guests (or us for that matter!).

Located in one of Arcos' prettiest & quietest streets, the house forms part of an Andalusian style residence of Moorish origin with an authentic central Andalusian courtyard.

The house offers Wi-Fi.

The living area is simply stunning: airy & spacious with a comfortable sitting-room area, dining room and kitchen. The drama of the room is enhanced by four metre high ceilings and original oak beams from which hang two huge Moroccan lanterns. The interior is simple, stylish and comfortable, with hints of Al Andalus.

The main air-con unit is located in the living area & also doubles as a heating unit in winter.

The kitchen, in traditional andaluz style, is well equipped, with ceramic hob, oven, microwave, kettle, small fridge/freezer, washing machine & cooking utensils.

There are 2 bedrooms, one double, on the ground floor & one twin, accessed via a short spiral staircase and there is a single sofa-bed in the sitting room.

The house sleeps up to 5 adults. We can also provide a cot for a baby.

Both bedrooms are equipped with fans in the summer & ceramic wall heaters for the winter months.

Completely refurbished in December 2011, the bathroom has a large walk-in shower, loo & basin with drawers & storage, as well as an electric towel rail, useful in the winter months for keeping you warm and your towels dry!

About Isabelle García

We first came to Arcos on a rainy April day back in 2003 with a view to, maybe, buying a house: we were shown what is now Casa Vista Castillo and that was it! 13 years later we have made Arcos our home and have been living & working here for the last 8 years. Arcos and the warmth and kindness of her people embraced us and we now feel part of the furniture, but continue to be treated with the same kindness we first encountered.

Isabelle García purchased this apartment in 2003

Why Isabelle García chose Sierra de Grazalema

The choice to buy this house was so easy despite it needing a bit of a re-vamp! Those views! They are breath-taking and continue to surprise & delight us to this day! What we weren´t aware of until the day of signing the deeds was that the previous owners had preserved but covered up the ancient beams in the house - what a coup! We quickly took down the false ceiling to reveal their glorious beauty as well as gaining 1.8 metres in ceiling height! After a bit of re-jigging, Casa Vista Castillo became what it is today: a comfortable, cosy retreat from the stresses of day-to-day life. Somehow it is like shedding your old skin on crossing the threshold, the house resonates with peace & tranquillity.

What makes this apartment unique

...back to those views again, and a wonderful location in the heart of Arcos´ Old Quarter. Everything is on your doorstep; the bars & restaurants, small shops, ancient monuments and those winding cobbled streets to get lost down. Some of our guests have likened wandering around Arcos to being on a film set! But you also don´t feel like a tourist and are given an insider´s view to life in Arcos. What we didn´t fully appreciate when we first bought the house was just what a fantastic location Arcos is with regards to visiting the province as a whole: most of the "must see" places are within an easy hours drive by car, from the coast, to Seville to Ronda...as well as all the fascinating places in between! We love Arcos for its authenticity and it´s refusal to become a "resort". It has its own beating heart and the people remain true to themselves. We hope that you will love it as much as we do!

A delightful house with stunning views!

  • 5 of 5

My partner, myself and 18 year old son spent 5 nights at Casa Vista Castillo at the end of July 2016 before heading down to El Palmar for a week. The house was really well equipped, loo rolls, kitchen rolls, condiments, oils and even a shopping trolley on wheels which proved useful for the supermarket trips. Arcos is a very friendly place with more than enough bars and restaurants to keep you fed and watered and all within a few minutes' stroll of the front door. It was incredibly hot and it's a steep walk up from the car park, but well worth renting the space for your stay and maybe we sweated off a few of the calories from all the lovely food and drink! We did visit the beach at the lake twice and can highly recommend it for cooling down late afternoon - the water was like a bath. A trip to Ronda is a must too. Would happily return here if we find ourselves in this part of Spain again. Isabelle gave lots of really helpful information and directions so we were sorry that we did not manage to meet her this time! Finally, a drink on that balcony, (a little table for drinks/snacks would be a useful addition maybe?) with that view, watching the sunset is a memory to be treasured!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your lovely review of Arcos and of Casa Vista Castillo, so glad that you enjoyed your time here and very much hope that should you come to these parts again, we will get to meet! It is very rare that I´m unable to meet and greet our guests but am glad that Jenny was able to fill you in on everything (thank you Jenny!). I hope it is not "adiós", just "hasta luego". Un abrazo x

A gem of an apartment in a wonderful small Spanish town

  • 5 of 5

Imagine a cliff-top castle overlooking vast swathes of farmland and small towns. That's the view from the balcony of Casa Vista Castillo. Between this wonderfully comfortable, spacious, and unique apartment (check out the winding staircase) and the equally wonderful town of Arcos, you could make this your home-away-from-home indefinitely. The people of Arcos are perhaps the most friendly we encountered spanning three European countries and countless stopovers. The food and restaurants are amazing. The late-night, live music is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Our family will never forget our time here.

Car: recommended

Casa Vista Castillo is located in the heart of Arcos de la Frontera´s Medieval Old Quarter, in a privileged position high up on a cliff of sandstone, offering spectacular, uninterrupted views of Arcos´ 1000 year old Moorish castle, the countryside below as well as the rock´s wonderful birdlife, all from your private terrace!

You will quickly be absorbed into Arcos´s community, and shops, bars & restaurants are just a stone´s throw from the house, as are the ancient monuments & buildings dating back to the Muslim occupation of Spain. Wander her ancient, narrow streets, enjoy the breath-taking views & just slow down & step back in time.

Arcos is an excellent base for exploring the province of Cádiz and beyond: Ronda is just 55 minutes by car, as are many of the beautiful "pueblos blancos" (white towns) of the Sierra de Cádiz, such as Zahara de la Sierra & Grazalema, where you will find beautiful, tranquil scenery & views, hiking trails, even swimming in the ice-cold rivers! The sherry town of Jerez is 30 minutes by car, and the province´s capital, Cádiz, just 45 minutes, considered to be the oldest city in Western Europe and founded by the Phoenicians. In the summer you can also easily reach the beautiful beaches of the Costa de la Luz, but if you don´t fancy a drive, just nip down to Arcos´s lake where there is an artificial sandy beach or to one of the nearest swimming pools.
