About this property

Mtn / Lake Cabin Vallecito Lake-Durango-Pagosa Springs- Silverton

This rustic mountain cabin home is in the heart of the Vallecito Lake community, central to Durango, Silverton, and Pagosa Springs. It is located on the north east corner of the lake, which is a very convenient location to all lake area and wilderness activities including boating, fishing, water skiing, hiking, horseback riding, road cycling, mountain biking, motorcycle riding (dirt and street), hunting in the fall (National forest is less then 100 yards from the front door), snowmobiling, ATV'ing, and more. There is also the ‘locals favorite’ cross country skiing trail along the Eastern edge of the lake, which is groomed all winter for both classic skiing and skate skiing.
This cabin easily accommodate 10 guests which makes for a perfect place to reconnect however you see fit. This cabin has a warm, comfortable, and cozy feel with a large wrap around deck with a Traeger Grill to BBQ on while looking out over the lake and watching the sun set from 2 large Rustic rocking chairs. After dinner, you can rest your feet in our formal living room with large wood burning fireplace as you watch TV on the 75 inch flat screen and Bose surround sound, or perhaps you'll enjoy some time in the entertainment game room as you play foosball, ping pong, darts, or simply lounge on the large sectional couch watching one of our many DVD's or Dish Network. If reading or board games are your thing, you'll find our Enlightenment Loft just the place for you to relax in one of our large love sacs as you enjoy the complimentary WiFi or strong Verizon and ATnT signal, which is only available in a few areas around the lake making this property an excellent place to stay.

If romance is what you seek, you can enjoy the two person jetted tub or shower in the master bath next to the Rustic King Size bed and private gas fireplace in the master bedroom. If you are looking to do a family gathering, you will find the 4 other queen size beds with brand new memory foam mattresses and down comforters very comfortable and cozy. Two of those queen size beds are modern Murphy cabinet pullouts with USB ports for charging your electric devices.

With the large rustic formal dinning table to accommodate all your guests, you can entertain them as you prepare meals in the fully stocked kitchen with everything you would need to prepare your meals. We supply coffee, sugar, creamer, as well as a cabinet full of spices, seasonings, and some baking necessities. If you like to cook as you do laundry, you'll find the large steam front loading washer and dryer just off the kitchen on the main level.

Outside, you can take a stroll through the large Ponderosa pines down to the lake or several rivers where you will find trophy pike, trout, walleye, bass, and salmon for fishing or boating. If you need a boat, the marina can provide you with watercraft at a reasonable rate. We also have contacts for ATV, Horseback riding, or White water rafting. From Durango, the train to Silverton or hot springs in Pagosa are both less then an hour away. After a long day come back to the cabin and enjoy the outdoor lighted pathway to the beautiful flower garden and large fire pit area under a Colorado sky full of stars.

If you're a competitive person then challenge one of your fellow house mates to a game. We have darts, air hockey, two foosball tables, and ping pong. You can even relax on the large sectional couch and watch TV while waiting your turn.

Beautiful Area and home
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. It was in mid March and there was a lot of snow. The grandchildren loved playing on the sleds that were at the house. There was so much snow, it was beautiful. We had difficulty getting our vehicle up the mountain. It would be helpful to know there is a good incline that is difficult in a 2 wheel drive vehicle when there is snow and ice. A 4 wheel drive vehicle is a good idea for the snowy months.

Christmas vacation
We stayed the week between Christmas and New Years. It was great. Wish we had known the house was on a steep road, as part of our group got stuck coming in. James did offer to push them into the driveway. However they ended up going home due to the winter storm threat. The rest of our group has a great time. Didn't even notice when the power went out until a couple hours in. James was very responsive to our questions. The game room is the converted garage, but is well insulated and is heated. Will come back again.

Labor Day vaccine with family
James and Dana were the best! They made us feel at home they had everything a family needed for a stay. The place was very clean and plenty of room for everyone. Me as a mom, grandma making the meals they had everything. If you wanted to BBQ they had different grills. My grandkids weren’t even bored being that they are teen’s they had games for everyone. They even had a boat to rent what made it even more fun. Thank you James and Dana we will be back. 😘

About the host

Host profile image
Born and raised in Colorado, we have always been fond of the outdoors. We enjoy hunting, fishing, photography, and traveling. We met several years ago, and have introduced each other to our favorite hobbies, including hunting an fishing. Since then, we have enjoyed traveling and exploring many places, creating amazing stories and pictures, however we always come back to our paradise on Vallecito Lake.

Why they chose this property

My girlfriend and I both wanted to own a home that was nestled in the mountains close to water. As an avid outdoors man, I enjoy living next to my passions and what I consider to be paradise. I am always hunting or fishing around the property. The lake has provided many of days of peaceful enjoyment as I am always looking to catch the next biggest walleye or pike. During the fall, I enjoy chasing elk and deer in the wilderness and National Forest right next to the house. You never know what wildlife you will see on a daily basis, so I am always carrying my camera equipment. This home is absolutely amazing and is why we have chosen to make it our forever home.

What makes this property unique

This home has a rustic but modern feel as you step into it with lots of natural light and warm wood tones. The large deck that faces towards the lake provides amazing sunsets. With limited neighbors who are not full time, we very rarely ever see anyone else on our road, making this home very quiet and peaceful. The house is located only a few minutes walk from the national forest where we ride ATV's or snowmobiles. The towering peaks greet us every morning as we look out our living room windows. At night, we can watch millions of stars around our big fire pit area and listen to wildlife drop pine cones from the tall P
Ponderosa pines.
