About Fay Sutton

I have recently moved from South London with my family to seek some peace and quiet. I now live next to the cottage in a lovely old Grade 2 listed farm house. I have two small children, aged 9 and 11. I work in London 3 days a week as a IT Manager for the City of London. I love walking, swimming and cycling.

Fay Sutton purchased this cottage in 2015

Why Fay Sutton chose Suffolk

The cottage is blissfully quiet with no traffic noise. In the early morning the drive and vineyard is alive with wild rabbits and at dusk look out for the barn owl swooping low over the paddock. The local area is surrounded by quiet country lanes, footpaths and bridleways ideal for walking and cycling. The area is known for excellent local produce which can be purchased in many farm shops and consumed in numerous friendly and welcoming pubs.

What makes this cottage unique

Timeless and quintessential English seaside resort of Southwold is just 20 minutes away, for boating, beach huts and pier. Slightly further afield is Aldeburgh (famous for Benjamin Britain and its arts festivals), crabbing and smokies at Walberswick and the lost town of Dunwich.

The small town of Halesworth with its local shops and supermarket is a short drive away. To the north are the market towns of Bungay and Beccles. From both of these, day boats can be hired for a day relaxing and exploring the Norfolk Broads. Further north (40 mins drive) is the regional centre of Norwich with its market, shopping and castle.

A very peaceful and comfortable cottage

  • 5 of 5

We were a family of 6 ranging in age from 12 to 70's. We found the cottage very comfortable, clean and well equipped with everything that we needed for an enjoyable week. The games room was fabulous and we enjoyed the snooker, ping pong and table football. The garden area was very pleasant for enjoying a barbecue or cuppa outside in the sunshine. A lovely place to stay, thank you Fay and Julian.

LOVELY LOCATION

  • 4 of 5

Our party of 8 plus a baby, ranged from 5 months to 71 years and everyone enjoyed the cottage. The barn was fabulous but as we were blessed with excellent weather, we did not use it but were able to enjoy 2 great BBQs with visiting family who live nearby and the great outdoor table and benches were more than adequate to seat everyone. Having a dish washer, washing machine and tumble dryer was great with a baby, although we were able to dry outdoors on the rotary line most days.

Fay contacted me before our arrival to inform us that they would be away for the weekend and that the cottage would be ready for us when we arrived, which it was. We were pretty much left alone and only saw the owners briefly during the week. The cottage was well equipped with plenty of crockery, glasses, cooking facilities, etc. although we soon ran short of kitchen paper and toilet rolls and needed to purchase more.

Our only drawbacks were that our double bed in the end downstairs room was not very comfortable and had very shallow pillows. Fortunately, I had taken my shaped pillow from home and so was able to give my husband one of my pillows to give him some height. Also, the shower head in the downstairs bathroom was loose and sprayed water from the connection. I was hoping that there would be a composting facility to dispose of waste food, peelings, etc. as I hate putting these in the garbage.

However, the advantages outweighed the problems and we had a wonderful week in lovely, peaceful surroundings.

Stunning surroundings, comfortable cottage

  • 5 of 5

We had a great stay - Fay was very accommodating. Very comfortable with plenty of space indoors and out for 8 adults. Well equipped kitchen. We enjoyed some good weather so used the BBQ and outdoor tables. Beautiful setting, in amongst the neighbouring vineyard with lots of wildlife to be spotted.

Fay and family made us very welcome! Beautiful area and lovely house!

  • 5 of 5

The house was very well appointed and fabulously set at the end of a track running through a vineyard! A few of our party said the beds were not very comfortable. If you want a quiet stay go no further! A short drive to Halesworth where you can find an array of individual shops! The beaches are not far! Brilliant 5 day stay

The games room was a great extra! A very large space with table football table tennis and pool table although some of the balls seemed to be missing and it leant to one side!!

Lovely venue; peaceful and great facilities.

  • 5 of 5

This is an ideal venue for a family break. A lovely drive up through the vineyard to a delightful barn conversion. We were staying for the wedding of our daughter locally and it was perfect. The games room barn was a a great place to unwind! We wish we had had time to do some local walks through the countryside. The owners were very helpful - even giving us a bottle of the vineyard champagne to celebrate the occasion! Would certainly recommend staying for a peaceful break.
