Looking at the photos of the property on VRBO, it was hard to imagine that the actual property could be as beautiful as it appeared. It turned out to be everything we imagined and more. The architecture and layout is amazing, and it is a 5 minute walk down a hill to the best beach in Kea. We had three full families there for a week and never felt crowded. George was a truly friendly and helpful host, and did everything he could to make our visit special. The two nearby beaches had everything needed for those that just want to lay on a cabana having drinks, or those that wanted water activities like tubing, water skiing, and scuba diving. George gave us some great leads on local restaurants, and the food was consistently great at the ones we stopped at.
Kea is less developed an island than Mykonos or Santorini, and there are some things that a large group of tourists should be aware of. The roads in and out of Koundouros Bay are steep and narrow (and beautiful), so having both a good car and a good driver should be required. The property is on a steep hill at the end of a partially paved road, with little room to turn a vehicle around. About half of the rooms have fans rather than air conditioning, and drinking water needs to be purchased. None of these things ended up being a problem for us, but I could imagine some visitors taking issue with them if they were unaware. The beauty of the island is that it is mostly unspoiled by over-development. In particular, the capital city of Ioulis is an amazing place to explore. I highly recommend it for families with school-age kids, or others looking for a relaxing getaway near Athens.
