Mackerel Cove House Rental Photos and Description

House, 5 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 7-10)

Come stay at the 'SAND HOME', only a block from Mackerel cove beach.

This home is a family friendly, fun and easy. With its large, comfortable front porch, relaxing on a rocking chair or swing makes sunset a special time for all. There is also a dinner table for 10.

The yard is a flat, well manicured 1/2 acre, great for ball, Frisbee, or flashlight tag. Also, for the kids, a swing set w/climbing wall/picnic table/sandbox, and the best climbing tree!! For the adults, there is a large hammock and adirondac chairs to watch all the fun. The outdoor shower has hot and cold water and is great for late night showers under the stars.

Recently renovated, the upstairs has three bedrooms, 2 with skylights for stargazing, French doors to small private porches great for an afternoon read or sunset. the 2nd floor also has a claw foot slipper tub for a long soak, or a hand held shower head to wash the kids.

The whole house is white, bright, and clean, it is decorated with nautical accents and comfortable furnishings.

Perfect Spot for Rest and Relaxation - Highly Recommend!

  • 5 of 5

Let me begin by saying that the photos of The Sand Home do not do the house justice. Katherine really did think of everything in outfitting the home, from providing all linens (sheets, towels and beach towels), having a fully equipped kitchen, and recreational items (beach chairs, boogie boards, umbrellas, games, and bikes).

Our group - 3 couples and 1 single (all adults) - felt the home provided ample private space for us to retreat when we wanted to go our separate ways, as well as ample communal space. We can definitely see how families with children would love it. The covered porch was a perfect setting for group meals (dining table seats 8) and just for relaxing on the rocking chairs and swing. Really great breeze in the mornings and evenings.

All the bedrooms have A/C but we really didn't have to use it - the temperature dipped enough in the evening to just open the windows and let the breeze blow in.

The home is only a 3 minute walk to Mackerel Cove - the premier swimming spot in Jamestown; 2 minute drive to the closest grocery store and 3 minute drive to the ferry to Newport. You really cannot find a place that is more perfectly situated.

Katherine was great - provided very clear instructions for check-in and check-out and responded to emails we sent during our stay. The party before us checked out late, which delayed our check-in (Katherine was uber apologetic about the delay and wanted to take the extra time to make sure the house was ready for us - it was immaculate!). Katherine in turn allowed us to check-out an hour later at the tail end. Katherine also provided some great recommendations for local eats and activities.

The one thing folks should note - the upstairs bathroom has a clawfoot tub which is better suited for baths and giving children a quick wash - all those in my group felt more comfortable using the shower downstairs (we have old knees and couldn't squat for too long).

In sum, we had an awesome time, would definitely stay at The Sand Home again and would highly recommend the home to others looking for a wonderful place to get away from it all!

Great stay near the beach

  • 4 of 5

The house was as advertised. It is very near the beach and enough room for all of us (6 adults and 2 toddlers). The house had a swing set and slide for the kids and an outdoor shower that came in handy after returning from the beach.

It was easy access to Newport and to Narragansett.

I would recommend it for a laid back vacation but with access to the rest of Rhode Island.

We are from Houston and it was great to enjoy the cool weather.

2 years of great times in Jamestown. Planning on many more.

  • 5 of 5

Our family has stayed at Katherine's charming Jamestown beach house for the past two years. The first year, we were new to Jamestown and were delighted with Conanicut Island. The perfect combination of laid-back island living with natural beauty and proximity to the upbeat pulse of Newport.

The location of this house to the beach at Mackerel Cove can't be beat, but the location is also perfect for a leisurely bike ride around the island, down into town, or to one of Conanicut Island's parks like Beavertail, Fort Wetherill, or Fort Getty.

The property itself is perfect for families. A nice spacious yard for the kids to run around in, play on the playset, or climb the copper beech tree next to the driveway. There is a perfectly situated hammock in a corner of the yard for the adults to supervise the young ones.

The house has plenty of room for families to spread out and enjoy their vacation together without falling all over each other. The front porch is the perfect place for a nice meal in the shade.

In short, you cannot go wrong with this wonderful Jamestown treasure.

great location

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this lovely cape in Jamestown for a few days while visiting family in the area in October. The house is well appointed and in a great location. My morning run was fantastic with amazing views along the water. Close to town. The yard was fun for our niece and the porch was a great spot to sit and relax. The owner included some restaurant reviews for local fare. We hope to stay there again as we didn't have enough time to explore Dutch Harbor and the parks and beaches.

Fun 5-Bedroom House in the heart of Jamestown

  • 5 of 5

We spent a few days during the end of the summer season at this very relaxing house with our young child and my mother. Everyone had a wonderful time whether simply sitting on the nice front porch, swinging on the tree swing around back or biking around Jamestown. It is in a wonderful neighborhood and the proximity to one of Jamestown's main beaches reduced our need to drive and the outdoor shower was pleasant when we returned. The house is well equipped for cooking and gets lots of nice breezes through the many windows and French doors. Jamestown has many areas to explore and Newport is a quick hop across a tall bridge. We have spent a lot of time in Rhode Island but were new to Jamestown and found it a great place for summer family fun. Katherine, the owner, was a pleasure to deal with and truly cares about the experience you have while sharing her home in Jamestown. Everyone will have excellent memories of this trip for a long time.

Wonderful House in Jamestown... Highly Recommend

  • 5 of 5

We decided last minute to book a family get away to RI. Being that we live in Southern CT we didn't want to travel to far so we decided on RI. Have never been to Jamestown before we didn't know what to expect. Boy were we pleasantly surprised.... Jamestown is a very quaint beach town with wonderful sites to see and great restaurants and beaches. It offers close proximity to the other RI towns but without the crowds. You can pop into Newport to shop, eat or go to the beach and then leave to peace and quiet. Being that I work in NYC on a daily basis escaping the noise and the crowds is important to me.

Now on to the house.... It is the perfect beach getaway. We have 2 boys (1 and 2.5 years old)... Very active and adventurous. The house was perfect for them. There is a nice sized back yard with a play set. My oldest would spend hours out there playing. The best part of the house is it's proximity to Mackerel Cove Beach (2 min walk). Katherine has an ATW - all terrain wagon (which tenants can use) so you load it up with all your beach gear and two minutes later your feet are in the ocean. Traveling with young children is never easy so having these resources available make it a bit easier. I cannot not also say enough good things about Mackerel Cove Beach. It's on a cove so the waves aren't too big. Perfect for young swimmers to get their water time to swim or hunt shells. The best part about it is that it is never overly crowded. I was there last week in Aug (prime time) and the beach was never too busy. Lastly being that the house is so close to the beach you get a cool breeze when sitting on the covered porch. It was never to hot or humid with the fresh ocean air blowing gently by the house.

I will be planning another return to this house as it is the perfect family getaway.
