We grew up on the New Jersey shore and settled there. We love Vermont and we enjoyed all the ski areas in southern Vermont. We finally built a true log cabin in southern Vermont.
Roy Wilkins purchased this cabin in 1995
We built a log cabin in 1995. The location is outstanding. It is secluded but close to the town of Chester and near the major town of Springfield. Is on a historic dirt road that has been in place for over 200 years. Green Mountain Tpk. The road has a historic covered bridge that goes over the Williams river. Outstanding hiking, biking and river activities. Chester is centrally located to it all! The Weston Playhouse, Vermont's oldest professional theater company in Vermont hosts live performances, plays and musicals and is only minutes away! The nearby town of Bellows Falls hosts many of Southern Vermont's summer events .
There is boating, canoeing, kayaking and swimming on the Connecticut River. Enjoy hiking, mountain climbing, mountain biking, and golfing all available in the Okemo Valley area! Unique summer sports and activities include horseback riding in Woodstock, Orvis fly fishing in Manchester and hot air ballooning in Quechee. During winter months you'll find downhill and cross country skiing, snowshoeing and snowmobiling.
The cabin sits facing south on a bluff overlooking the Williams river with rapids directly below the house. A lower deck sits on top of the rapids with a view of the mountains and sunsets.
The river is excellent for fishing for brook trout and has a five foot swimming hole at the end of the property. The lower, upper decks and new sunroom are excellent places to watch the sunset with a beverage and listen to the sounds of the rapids.

There are all kinds of auctions, antique shows and fun eclectic flea markets to be found almost every weekend in Southern Vermont. The Brimfield Antique Show, put on three times a year, is one of the largest antique shows in the U.S
Extremely neat and clean. Everything was exactly as stated in the description. The basement was bigger than we anticipated. The boys stayed for a couple of days and they enjoyed their privacy and rooms. The river was beautiful, nice sitting area in the afternoon. We brought our two pups with us, kept them leashed when we were outside. Kitchen was perfect. Thank you for sharing your home with us.
GREAT CABIN. CDRTAINLY LIVED UP TO ITS DESCRIPTION AND MORE. GRANDS CAME FOR FEW DAYS AND LOVE THE SWIMMING HOLE. COULDN'T ASK FOR A BETTER PLACE TO STAY. WANTED SOMETHING PEACEFUL AND RELAXING, CERTAINLY GOT IT. LOVED THE LOWER DECK NEAR THE RIVER. SPENT MANY HOURS THERE READING OR JUST RELAXING. DIDN'T GO TO MANY PLACES BECAUSE WE JUST WANTED TO RELAX. AND DID. A TRULY UNIQUE CABIN AND A GREAT VACATION. HOPE TO GO BACK NEXT YEAR. LOVED IT
Wonderful place to stay... House was cozy and inviting.Love every little detail of the house, paintings on the wall, upstairs bed frame, the swings, well I could go on and on. The dog loved the river and there was a deer who show up one morning to say hello. Was a perfect palce and location. So close to everything but you felt like you where miles from anything...
My husband and I had the pleasure of staying in this cabin for 2 weeks, and it was absolute heaven!!
The house itself had everything you could ever need or want. (well stocked kitchen, etc...) and is very nicely decorated.
We spent the majority of our stay outdoors and down by the river. When the water level is not high, there's a little beach down on the left. Follow the path in the back of the yard behind the firepit. I was expecting the water to be ice cold but it was absolutely gorgeous.
Any questions we had for the owner were promptly responded to.
We were so impressed with this place that we've already booked another 2 weeks for next year.
I would recommend this cabin highly!!!
We had the best stay at this wonderful cabin. It is without a doubt the best equipped place I have ever stayed in, and we have stayed in so many holiday homes around the world.
It is so homely and cosy, and the owners clearly love the place and it has so many of their personal touches. The space outside is just as amazing as the cabin itself. A massive area to play, sit and watch the river and even the beach down by the rocks, it really did have it all.
We didn't venture out much as we just loved being there, we did visit Ludlow and Woodstock and obviously the little town of Chester just down the road. Recommend the great Country Girl Diner in Chester, a real authentic experience (especially for us Brits).
You could not fail to fall in love with the whole experience of staying in this cabin, the whole family loved it, and for 4 people we had so much space.
Thanks for an absolutely wonderful stay :))
My husband and I spent a week in this cabin and we did not want to leave. The river was so nice, not cold at all, we paddled around for hours. Bring your tire tubes. We would love to come back for another week. We have stayed in a lot of cabins over the years and this is the only one we would spend another weeks vacation at. Nice restaurants, short drive to Manchester. Well equipped with anything you need. Tons of utensils, hair dryer, washer dryer, basement TV room with tons of sleeping space, great deck and patio.Great fire pit, we spent 3 nights by the fire.Thank you so much for sharing your paradise with us. We had a great time.
Climbing on Rocking Chair Mtn. Directly behind cabin.
Excellent mountain biking and hiking on Green Mountain Rd, covered bridge 2 miles away. Okemo and Bromley adventure parks only 20 min away. Simon Pierce glass blowing only 35 min away.Long Trail Brewery and restaurant 40 min away
