The name Limoux:
Limoux wine is produced around the city of Limoux in Languedoc in southwestern France. Limoux wine is produced under four Appellation d’origine contrôlée (AOC) designations: Blanquette de Limoux, Blanquette méthode ancestrale, Crémant de Limoux and Limoux, the first three of which are sparkling wines and dominate the production around Limoux. The main grape of the region is the Mauzac, locally known as Blanquette, followed by Chardonnay and Chenin blanc. In 2005, the Limoux AOC was created to include red wine production consisting of mostly Merlot. Wine historians believe that the world’s first sparkling wine was produced in this region in 1531, by the monks at the abbey in Saint-Hilaire.
The name “la Bade”:
La Bade stems from the Occitan word “Badar”, meaning, “staring with open mouth” as this is exactly the reaction you can expect upon seeing Domaine de la Bade situated in the picturesque landscape. Perched upon a lovely little hilltop, with 14 hectares of land surrounding the house and spectacular views of the Carcassonne valley and the Pyrenees, our gîtes are the ideal location to enjoy a sophisticated yet relaxed holiday in this charming region of France.
Here you will find attention to detail – those little things that make a holiday special. At this luxury yet small scale gîte complex, you’ll find five fully equipped holiday cottages with spacious living rooms, large bedrooms with very comfortable beds, a swimming pool with a stunning view where you can relax, read or chat. Enjoy the sunny terraces, shady corners, nice hammocks, delicious food, fine wines and above all the relaxed and informal atmosphere where you can truly feel at home.

Domaine de la Bade is located near Carcassonne in the beautiful Languedoc-Roussillon region of the sunny South of France. The property is surrounded by sunflower fields, vineyards and olive groves. There are no busy roads which run along the domain and there is plenty of room to enjoy the outdoors and unwind.
The Cathar country (as this area is called), is a warm and hospitable place, with a unique heritage, splendid landscapes, and inhabitants with a strong taste for celebration and sharing.
In the immediate vicinity there is lots to see and do. The walled city of Carcassonne, the largest castle in Europe, is only 15 km away. Near Carcassonne is also a large lake with a nice sandy beach (ideal for children) and an adventure park with climbing and clambering tracks which is one of the highlights for slightly older kids.
The beautiful surroundings with hills, mountains, rivers, lakes and typical French villages have much to offer in terms of sporting activities, mountain biking, cycling, hiking, white water canoeing, rafting, swimming, fishing, boating, caving, skiing, wind surfing , catamaran sailing, horse riding, tennis, golf and much more.
Eating & drinking is amongst the favorite pastimes of the locals and the area is blessed with great restaurants, fantastic markets and many vineyards where a glass of wine can be tasted. But a nice cup of coffee on a sleepy outdoor café nearby or a cosy picnic along the beautiful Canal du Midi is also un-resistable.
There is a lot to see and do in the Cathar country of the Aude. Your hosts are more than happy to share their favorite places and help you find the gems of the region (on and off the beaten track).
