Les Chênes is a renovation masterpiece. The result of a 3 year long project designed to give large party holiday makers the ultimate comfort experience in self catering accommodation.

The original two room house, workshops, stable and barn have all been converted. Providing accommodation over two floors, built on the original U-shape foundations that date back a couple of hundred years. There are five bedrooms in total, one of which is located on the ground floor along with four bathrooms, numerous dining areas and a lounge with fantastic views over the French countryside. The “tree trunk” timber joists and beams have been kept and we’ve added the comforts of running water and electricity! Two large wood pellet burners throw out enough heat to keep everybody warm and all rooms are further equipped with electric radiators.

The kitchen areas include all of the comforts of home and like most of the fixtures and fittings it’s all brand new and excellent quality. The TV provides both UK and French channels television and radio alike.

There are enough beds for 15 people and rooms can be configured in a variety of ways depending on party size and make up. We’ve designed the rooms with families in mind, adults and children all get something they’ll be happy with. There is a large, private and enclosed lawn garden at the rear of the house. The front gravel courtyard provides on site parking for up to 5 cars. Please see the layout plans for more details.

About Michael Reid

Les Chênes is owned by an English family who spend most of their time inthe North of England. The house and holiday rentals are managed by Michael Reid who lives in the neighbouring village of Tingry. Originally from Hertfordshire Michael has lived and worked in France since 1994. His company Pied à Terre specialises in second home and holiday home management and has been trading successfully since 2004.

Why Michael Reid chose Montreuil

The property had been vacant for a number of years before it was purchased. The vision was to create holiday style accommodation for large parties, families and friends wanting to spend time together in space and comfort.

It was important to restore the property as close as possible to the original design, to give life back to a traditional regional “fermette” but make it practical and maintenance free. All of the work was carried out by local French tradesmen and we are delighted with the result. The combination of ancient and modern works well and the house is huge with niche pockets of space all designed to ensure everyone feels comfortable and at home. The location is great. It’s a farm hamlet with a handful of houses. You feel you’re in the middle of nowhere, yet just a few minutes drive to “civilisation”. The region/local area is very much geared towards leisure activities & pursuits, but if you feeling like staying in then this home is very hard to beat!

What makes this farmhouse unique

The house and hamlet seem to represent real France and our love to escape to it. Plus the tourist strap line of real close is so true. Once you arrive, by ferry or tunnel…………..in under an hour you can be here, settled in and unpacked!

Once you’ve visited you’ll ask yourself “why go any further?” The views and countryside are awesome.

As far as comfort, accommodation and space goes you’ll not find a better holiday home for everyone to enjoy.

Lovely house, great location

We stay for Christmas. We were a group of 12 and the house was perfect for our size. Enough space for everyone to have room to themselves and the large dining table was brilliant for meal times. The kitchen is very well stocked for the party size. Location was fantastic, only 30 minutes to the beach. Would definitely visit again.

We had a wonderful stay at Tubeauville with a group of 14. The house is well equipped. Plenty of bathrooms. All clean and tidy. Pallet stoves create a cosy atmosphere. Friendly and helpful owner. Quiet village.

Superbe maison dans une superbe région

Nous avons passé une trés belle semaine dans ce superbe gite, parfaitement aménagé et rénové ( à neuf, en gardant le charme ) pour 15 personnes ( et pour de vrai, assez de lits, de vaisselles, de chambres, de salles de bain... etc ). Le coin est superbe, le gîte trés confortable, on y trouve tout, du barbecue, au ballon pour les enfants, à la machine à laver et Michael est charmant, plein de bons conseils et de bonnes adresses. Il suffit de sortir du gîte pour trouver de très belles promenades à travers la campagne si belle dans le Boulonnais.

Je le recommande pour toutes vos réunions familiales ou amicales dans la région.

Great stay!

We gathered at 4 families in Michael amazing house, totalling 15 people, incl young kids. House is huge and very well decorated. Comfort is perfect and the owner is very accomodating, available in case we needed him! Kids played in the garden, and seaside is just 20 minutes away. Perfect for week ends or holidays, and very close to Calais for those who come from the UK just like us.

Thanks again for this great stay, will definitely do it again!

Super week end de détente en famille

Très bon accueil, propriétaire présent et fort sympathique.

Très jolie propriété, décoré avec goût.

Très confortable, propreté irréprochable.

Lits fait à l'arrivée.

Rien ne manque dans la cuisine à notre confort.

Situé pas trop loin du Touquet et de Hardelot. (Marché le samedi au Touquet).

Grand jardin agréable avec piste de pétanque.

Week end à refaire, et à conseiller à tous !!

Mooie gerenoveerde hoeve. Veel ruimte. Ieder gezin had zijn eigen badkamer. Grote ruimte om samen te ontbijten. Rustige ligging mooie tuin. Een warme welkom door de eigenaar. Was heel goed en in orde.

Truly real France real close, this holiday home is under an hour away from the port of Calais. The house benefits from an idyllic rural location with nearby centres of “civilisation” providing all the amenities you’ll need away from home.

Les Chênes is a fabulous base from which to explore the regional attractions and indulge in a host of activities, where there is something for all the family to enjoy.

Thubeauville is a hamlet to the river valley village of Parenty. The Course river meanders through a host of picturesque villages between the market town of Desvres and the historical town of Montreuil sur mer, here you can follow in the steps of Victor Hugo with a walk around the battlements of the fortified haute ville as well as enjoying a number of restaurants and bars. The annual summer production of Les Miserables is a popular event. With over 300 actors performing in a sound and light show at the citadel of Montreuil.

Located to the South of a Natural Regional Park this holiday home location sits just a few kilometres behind the Opal Coast. 120 kilometres of long sandy beaches running from the Belgian border to the Picardy region. The coast line includes the “Grand site des deux caps” one of only 10 French sites to hold the prestigious award of Grand site de France.

The beaches link numerous seaside resorts including Wisant, Ambleteuse, Wimereux, Hardelot, St Cecile, Merlimont and Le Touquet.

A holiday or a short break with us here can focus very much on outdoor pursuits. There are a multitude of walking, biking and horse riding trails to be found almost everywhere. Golfers are spoilt for choice with a number of Championship courses including Les Pins & Les Dunes at Hardelot and no matter the season the beaches provide all the activities associated with sand and sea. The regional sport of sand yachting is a must! For those that enjoy shopping there’s much fun to be had at the outlet and commercial centres in Coquelles and Boulogne not forgetting the chic rue St Jean in Le Touquet / Paris plage.

Used as a base for day-trips out Les Chênes is ideal for historical and cultural visits. From Agincourt to World War 2 there are numerous military sites and museums to enjoy. A good selection of theme parks including the family favourite Bagatelle near Berck sur mer whilst Boulogne sur mer is home to one of France’s best sealife centres Nausicaa.

Pas de Calais is renowned throughout France for its friendliness and hospitality which you can experience in bustling markets, cafés, bistros and restaurants.
