About paul and elise samuelson
We came up to Marin County in 1991 and fell in love with its beauty. Both of us have been in the film and television industry and where Paul decided to retire, Elise continued to travel to Los Angeles and work on different film and television projects as a studio teacher. She has worked on some well known projects such as Full House, and many movies as well. We both are semi retired now and love to travel as well as welcome fellow travelers to our lovely area . Elise is a teacher in the film industry and Paul was an assistant director. He is now a writer and has written a novel called Night Fear. It can be found on Amazon! He is writing his second novel which is a sequel to Night Fear. There are 2 more on the horizon. Our alma maters our UCLA and Cal Berkeley!

Why paul and elise samuelson chose San Rafael
This neighborhood where our rental exists is truly unique. It is on the Bay side of a quaint area called 'Chicken Point' - perhaps because there might have been people raising chickens - which is a common happening here!- It is not far from central San Rafael and yet it feels rural enough to enjoy walks up in the hills and around the Bay. The architecture of our surrounding area is a mix of different styles. No cookie cutter look here. It reminds me of Topanga Canyon in Los Angeles, an area where I grew up and a mix of East Coast Maine. People here are very supportive and helpful and we find that this did not exist in larger towns and cities.
What makes this Apartment unique
The style of our rental is a bit of New England. We have temperate weather due to the proximity to the Bay and since we are near a little beach, it is easy to put out a kayak or stand up paddle board. Also our neighbors are what makes the area wonderful - everyone loves where we live!!

Clean, comfy and convenient
We stayed for 2 nights and found Elise and Paul to be very welcoming hosts. The location is wonderful, just steps to the beach, and a ferry ride away from San Francisco. We would highly recommend staying here and hope to be back in the not too distant future. Thanks Elise and Paul!
Thank you for your review. Just saw this. We strive to keep our "cleanliness" reputation and welcome any hints of how we can better the stay of our guests. We enjoy what we do and love it when people also enjoy our rental.
Exudes cleanliness and comfort
We enjoyed our stay immensely! The owners are very cordial and considerate. The apartment is extremely comfortable and well furnished. One could not ask for a cleaner home away from home. The area has the peace and quiet of country living but very near all the immenities one desires for a great vacation to the SF Bay area. Many nice, safe walking areas as well. Our son lives 1/2 mile from the apartment, so it was very convenient to walk to his home instead of driving. We will definitely stay in this charming apartment whenever we visit the San Rafael area.
Dear Ken and Lee,
Thank you for your kind words. We really try!!

Weak Communication
I contacted the owner by VRBO email twice well in advance of arrival with questions and did not receive answers. When we arrived at the 4PM check in time the owner was not at the property and the door was locked. I called the owner who arrived 25 minutes later. Apology offered and accepted.
After 9 years of renting out our VRBO, we got a bad review. Now the renter said she contacted us 2x but honestly either VRBO dropped the thread or I do not know.how this happened Never heard from this woman at all. I am always on top of communication with renters. Granted, I had just returned from an unexpected trip abroad and was at the airport when she arrived and could tell she was angry that I was not there upon her arrival. I would be too. I apologized profusely but she was not having any of it. I pride myself on my communication skills and I can honestly say that she was not too receptive to my apology or any genuine effort to make her stay comfortable.
Cozy, with good location
Loved our stay! Then rental was extremely clean (which is most important thing to me) and the owners added some nice touches to make you feel like they really thought about their guests. Not only were there the usual toiletries like shampoo and conditioner, but also an extra toothbrush and toothpaste, Q-tips and even nail polish remover! In the kitchen they provided napkins, tin foil and sandwich bags that made taking food with us on our day trips easier. I liked that this was truly a one-bedroom so that if one of us was up early we could close the door between the bedroom and the living area so we didn't disturb the other person. The owners answered any questions we had about the area but were not intrusive. The garden they have at the front of the house was amazing! The neighborhood was very quiet and peaceful. We used this a base location to take day trips into San Francisco, Muir Woods, and Napa Valley - it was very convenient and a short drive to many Bay area activities/attractions. If we come back to the San Francisco area, I would definitely stay here again!
cozy cottage in san rafael
Our stay at the cottage in San Rafael was wonderful. The cottage was clean, cozy and romantic. Paul and Elise were charming guests and very welcoming. The secret garden in the back yard is such a special respite and absolutely charming. Lemons and figs were ripe on the trees for our stay. This cottage was central to our adventures in San Francisco, Pt. Reyes and Angel Island. We recommend this rental to anyone who wants a quiet, nice place to stay in this area.
Great location
Stayed Sept 4-7
Thank you Paul & Elise for opening up your little piece of heaven to us. The unit is very cozy, clean and has everything one would need. Great location to Sausalito's and taking the ferry over to San Fransico.
Location
What sets us apart from other vacation rentals in San Rafael is our quiet, unique, scenic neighborhood that is close to the bay.It feels as if it is a blend of East Coast Maine with West Coast weather. It is a peaceful, semi rural area.We are close to a boat harbor as well as a small beach where you can launch canoes or kayaks. Our East San Rafael property is also surrounded by open land where you can hike, mountain bike or just enjoy walking around the bay. We are also near historic China Camp and McNears Beach picnicking site. If you want to get some small town feel, we are 2.5 miles away from the downtown area of San Rafael which has a restored, historic mission as well as cute shops and many restaurants. There is also a restored movie theatre that plays a significant role in the Mill Valley Film Festival. Also nearby is Dominican College that has hosted many prominent speakers, writers, politicians and actors. Besides all of these highlights, we are literally walking distance from Andy's Market, an upscale full service market with an incredible deli and a finely curated wine selection. Our property is a midway point for visiting the city of San Francisco, the wine counties of Napa and Sonoma, the lovely coastal route from Stinson Beach to Point Reyes and beyond to Bodega Bay. All can be done in one day travel. Other Activities: We have had golfers, kayakers, hikers, sailers, and a myriad or those who enjoy the outdoors. We are very close to the Peacock Gap Country Club which does have day rates as well as McGuinnis Parkway Golf Center for those who just want to hit some golf balls or play a full round of golf. Ski: We are 3.5 hours from Truckee and Lake Tahoe ski resort. Stand up Paddle Boarding and Kayaking is offered at 101 Surf Sports which is about a mile away from us. They even have lessons and you can rent from them as well. Hiking on Mount Tam is a wonderful refreshing way to rejuvenate. There are easy, moderate and strenuous hikes depending on your preference and ability. You can also go hiking right outside of our rental. We have an open space area a few blocks from us and you can enjoy a peaceful morning walk. Our Sunday Farmers Market is really a treat and fresh vegetables and fruit are abundant. Of course there is Muir Woods which is a spectacular area but needs reservations as their parking lot fills up fast. We are surrounded by hiking trails a short walk away where you can feel as if you have left the city life behind you. There is also 101 Surf Sports which rent out stand up boards and kayaks.
