Phil and Phyllis purchased the property from a family member. Phil's dream was to build his own home on the lake in 1993. We worked together on the home while working for corporations in Rochester, NY. We've met many interesting families and enjoy sharing our lake home.

PHYLLIS DANN purchased this house in 1993

Why PHYLLIS DANN chose Aurora

The property belonged to Phil's Uncle and he wanted to keep the property in the family. We are so delighted to have been able to build Sunset House for the family. We hope you enjoy your stay!

What makes this house unique

Sunset House deck is over the lake and all the rooms have views of the lake. We recently installed AIR-CONDITIONING (2017). There is a chiminea for fires on a cool day and comfy outdoor furniture. Our lake home is tastefully decorated and family antiques add to the charm of the home.

We all had a wonderful time here! We especially loved the time we spent on the deck overlooking the lake. The lake home was cozy and inviting. Thanks again!

Great Location, Beautiful Home

  • 5 of 5

Home is as beautiful if not more so than pictured. Very comfortable. Located in a quiet and peaceful area. Very relaxing, yet close to many activites. Beautiful state parks, great restaurants (Pumpkin Hill Bistro was excellent) & wineries. Sunsets over the lake are spectacular. Had a lot of fun feeding the ducks who swam up to the deck. We had a great vacation!!!!

Wow! A perfect gettaway!

  • 5 of 5

The owners are the best! My wife and I stayed for a week and would have stayed longer if we could have. The house was everything we expected and more. The lake is a gem as is Aurora. If you want peace and quiet, this is the retreat. Again, I can't say enough about how Phil and Phyllis were so accommodating and graceful as hosts. Thanks again guys.......and we look forward to renting the cottage again soon!

Travelled quite a distance with 5 friends (in our 40's & 50's) for a ladies weekend away from our families for hitting the wine trail.Lake house was charming, however the owner-not so much. We were immediately met with condescension from the Phil letting us know being on the lake was challenging-only 5 min. showers were permitted and were given a

long grocery list of what was expected of us including cleaning duties (when they have housekeeping)and we were the guests! Owner demeaned me in front of my friends so things did not start out well. Excessive heat and no a/c was terribly uncomfortable! Low to no water pressure and cold showers were unfortunately a daily occurrence. There is no way you could possibly used the jetted tub that is advertised! We used every fan plus brought our own and had no relief except to start our day early to get someplace with a/c asap. 5 mph zone on street strictly enforced by neighbors and we were watched like hawks as if we were children. The right thing to do would have been for our stay to be discounted instead of being told by owners they had empathy and were sorry for any frustration we felt. This was to be a relaxing trip as a stress-free getaway for us busy working women, wives and mothers and I'm sad to say, it was quite the opposite. Perhaps the owners should reconsider renting their property since it is quite apparent from our dealings with Phil, he is not comfortable with relinquishing it as a vacation respite. Although the house is lovely and the views were much appreciated, we did not deserve the condescending remarks we were met with, nor the sub-par water temp and water pressure.

Owner's Response: EVERYONE KNOWS THERE WAS A HEAD WAVE SUMMER – WE DO NOT ADVERTISE AIR CONDITIONING We do not advertise air-conditioning. Everyone knows there has been a heat wave this Summer. No other guests have complained about there being no air as they read our Home Away web page and knew we did not advertise air-conditioning. This guest obviously did net completely read the web page or ask us any questions about the air conditioning. We have six fans in various places in the home. There is a wrap around deck, many windows and lake breezes are very pleasant. Stairs to the lake make swimming very easy and will certainly keep guests cool. Phil always explains that we have a well and to be careful with length of showers as we’ve had guests run our well out of water. “We appreciate you leaving the lake house as you find it” is always a polite request we make, as we have guests arriving right after guests are departing. We’ve had no other guests complain about this request. The jetted tub works perfectly. We enjoy using it every time we are at our lake home and no guests have ever complained about pressure or water temperature. There was a power outage during these guests stay which caused the jet tub to have a problem working properly. 20 E-Mail’s asking unending questions - Rent your vacation home long enough and a challenging guest rent your home. Our intuition prompted us to tell her the dates she requested were rented. Phil was very kind and patient with her. By the time he was signing her in his patience was worn thin. She obviously did not read our web page thoroughly. She just kept sending e-mails. The comments about the 5 mph are unfounded. The lake homes on Sunset Beach Rd. are on a driveway like road and the residence are very serious about the speed anyone drives. As residences we have to be very serious about explaining to our guests about the speed limit. We will receive phone calls if we have guests who speed. This women and her group did not adhere to the speed limit and we received phone calls. This guest’s complaints are her personality problem and should not be our concern. For those reading our comments please do not take her comments as truth. Read the other reviews and consider them when making a decision about renting our lake home. Thank you.

This is our 3rd stay at this very cozy home with amazing views! Even when you are inside the outside comes in because of all the windows. Phyllis and Phil are so nice to deal with booking the home and if any problems arise are very attentive. We loved "Pumpkin Hill" restaurant and the farmers market in Ithaca. Can't wait til our next visit!!!
