I was born in upper state N.Y. and moved to Fort Lauderdale florida when I was 11 years old where I graduated high school and got into the flooring installation business for 28 years, I moved to Orlando in 1983 continued flooring, opened a bicycle shop in 1992 , it's my passion to ride a bicycle and have been for 30 years. I enjoy cycling at home and in the mountains, I went to France to watch the Pros in Tour D France 3 times and rode all the mountains the pro's ride with friends and i am working still in the bicycle industry part time, I also have a motorcycle and have traveled the USA on it a couple of times and take it to my cabin to ride the Blue Ridge Parkway as often as possible. I love to be at my cabin with family or friends and in the mountains. I enjoy everything outdoors and on 2 wheels like cycling or riding a motorcycle, kayaking or hiking is always peaceful and quiet in the Beauty of nature and wildlife. Living in orlando the change of weather every year I look forward to with the colorful foliage of Octobers leaves and the snow on the trees with no leaves in winter. I enjoy doing home projects and volunteering when i can, I would like to leave as small of a footprint on the beautiful earth God has given me so I recycle everything I see at home or the cabin and have plans to make my home green and energy efficient to get off the Electric grid soon.
Daniel Whitney purchased this cabin in 2007
The developement was nicely located and well maintained plus only 20 minutes to a town and the Interstate and 35 to the blue ridge parkway. The developer of Grandview Peaks I felt was honest when I spoke with him, my builder had years of experience building in this and another developement of Fall creek land company developed, I looked at 10 different cabins in areas and communities from north georgia to west virginia and rented cabins from 1200 feet to 4000 feet in elevation so 1800 is perfect, I also researched developement in N.C. and what his future plans were in this 1600 acre community as everything he said 7 years ago is complete in 2014. The community if very involved with events at the lake, pot luck dinners, bar-b-que's, ladies lunches, bible studies and a news letter with arts, crafts, farmers markets to buy locally. I now have a couple of close friends there and plan to spend months at a time in 2016 there.
Well maintained with great community involvement where there are 8 events at the pavillion every year with movies under the stars plus hiking and fishing or swimming in our lake with a gated front entrance. Very Active community if your interested from Bible studies to corn hole or Bunko while you stay, Easy access to I-40 for skiing or tubing in winter or water skiing in summer. Hospital 14 miles away, Great Views, Paved roads with underground utilities for clean viewing.
This Christmas was a beautiful white christmas and another look with snow on the trees without leaves. there is a 2 mile nature walk that ends at a private waterfall with benches and landscaping to enjoy the peacefull sound of water or have a picknick and just relax. the entire property outside was renovated including widing the driveway with 15 tons of new rock all around the cabin, adding plants and mulching the entire lot. 2 new flat screens too!
We have been coming back to this cabin year after year and I can honestly say each time is better than before! It is immaculately clean and cozy. The kitchen is well stocked with start up items. The beds are comfortable and the rooms are quiet. When it's cool outside we like to sleep with the windows open to enjoy the crisp night air. I am constantly amazed at how gorgeous the stars in the sky are at night. I was surprised and delighted to find that a Christmas tree and holiday decorations were already in place-which made us feel the spirit of Christmas during our stay. You can tell that the owners of this cabin take meticulous care of it and want their guests to feel at home. Nearby Black Mountain is a wonderful way to spend the day browsing through shops and enjoying a lunch or dinner out. The local vineyard offers a nice way to enjoy some local wine and appetizers before heading back to the cabin to cook steaks on the grill while watching the colorful sunset over the mountains. Every year we look forward to what this cabin and location has to offer. Come summertime I look forward to the activities down by the lake which is suitable for swimming, sunbathing while reading a good book or fishing for trout-for those who just cannot imagine a vacation without fishing. You don't need to bring any mustard-the refrigerator is stocked with plenty of that as well as salad dressings, jams and ketchup. Don't forget to check out the custom made table by a local craftsman in the family room which is stocked with a multitude of activities available in the area to keep you busy if you want to experience what more the area has to offer. Thank you for the opportunity to vacation at your cabin again-we will gladly be returning in the spring!
We spent the Christmas holiday here and enjoyed every minute! The cabin is well appointed, beautifully situated, and has wonderful views. The neighborhood (development) is outstanding: hiking, waterfall, lake, outdoor shelter with fireplace and kitchen. 15 minutes from the small town of Marion, 20 more to the village at Black Mountain, and a few more to downtown Asheville. Clean, well maintained and a sure recommendation.
Overall a wonderful stay!!!! My family, all 6 of us, celebrated an early Christmas at the cabin! I would highly recommend!! Clean as can be, well appointed and very comfortable.
We loved our 4-night stay at the Grandview cabin. We had 6 adults and 2 small children. Each family took one bedroom, and we stayed in the basement with the kids, which was great because it was a little sealed off from the upstairs floors and we could put the kids to bed away from noise. We loved that fact that each bedroom had its own full bathroom. The kitchen was very well equipped, and we cooked a full Thanksgiving dinner in it with no problem. We also loved the little hiking trail that start less than a half mile from the house. It was very pretty, and easy enough for our 3-year-old to walk well over half of it on her own. The top floor got pretty warm when the fireplace was going, and the closest grocery store was 25 minutes away from the cabin, but those were the only two very minor issues we had.
My mom, sister, and I stayed 3 nights in this cabin for a little get-away. The house was probably a bit oversized for just the three of us, but we each had our own floor and suite! The cabin was well-stocked as far as linens and kitchen basics. Appliances were pleasantly modern and we spent every night in front of the fireplace or, in my case, beating my sister at ping pong in the basement. The views were limited slightly by trees close to the house, but you can see the mountains, and the drive down from the cabin is beautiful. This cabin has a lot of space for people to spread out, and I can absolutely see that it would be nice for 5-6 people. My only criticism is probably true for most homes in the area in the fall...stink bugs and ladybugs. They weren't everywhere, but I'd say I had encounters with ~ 6 big stinkbugs and more than 10 ladybugs. The house was immaculate except for that.
We had a wonderful stay here. We appreciated the peace and quiet, and the mountain views were spectacular. All the bedrooms were cozy and comfortable, and the kitchen was well appointed. The patio space was excellent - we enjoyed breakfast on the back patio taking in the views. We had a blast on the ping pong table and appreciated that there were games available. We had a wonderful stay and highly recommend this property - it is well maintained and comfortable.
