About Daniel Whitney

I was born in upper state N.Y. and moved to Fort Lauderdale florida when I was 11 years old where I graduated high school and got into the flooring installation business for 28 years, I moved to Orlando in 1983 continued flooring, opened a bicycle shop in 1992 , it's my passion to ride a bicycle and have been for 30 years. I enjoy cycling at home and in the mountains, I went to France to watch the Pros in Tour D France 3 times and rode all the mountains the pro's ride with friends and i am working still in the bicycle industry part time, I also have a motorcycle and have traveled the USA on it a couple of times and take it to my cabin to ride the Blue Ridge Parkway as often as possible. I love to be at my cabin with family or friends and in the mountains. I enjoy everything outdoors and on 2 wheels like cycling or riding a motorcycle, kayaking or hiking is always peaceful and quiet in the Beauty of nature and wildlife. Living in orlando the change of weather every year I look forward to with the colorful foliage of Octobers leaves and the snow on the trees with no leaves in winter. I enjoy doing home projects and volunteering when i can, I would like to leave as small of a footprint on the beautiful earth God has given me so I recycle everything I see at home or the cabin and have plans to make my home green and energy efficient to get off the Electric grid soon.

Daniel Whitney purchased this cabin in 2007

Why Daniel Whitney chose North Carolina

The developement was nicely located and well maintained plus only 20 minutes to a town and the Interstate and 35 to the blue ridge parkway. The developer of Grandview Peaks I felt was honest when I spoke with him, my builder had years of experience building in this and another developement of Fall creek land company developed, I looked at 10 different cabins in areas and communities from north georgia to west virginia and rented cabins from 1200 feet to 4000 feet in elevation so 1800 is perfect, I also researched developement in N.C. and what his future plans were in this 1600 acre community as everything he said 7 years ago is complete in 2014. The community if very involved with events at the lake, pot luck dinners, bar-b-que's, ladies lunches, bible studies and a news letter with arts, crafts, farmers markets to buy locally. I now have a couple of close friends there and plan to spend months at a time in 2016 there.

What makes this cabin unique

Well maintained with great community involvement where there are 8 events at the pavillion every year with movies under the stars plus hiking and fishing or swimming in our lake with a gated front entrance. Very Active community if your interested from Bible studies to corn hole or Bunko while you stay, Easy access to I-40 for skiing or tubing in winter or water skiing in summer. Hospital 14 miles away, Great Views, Paved roads with underground utilities for clean viewing.

Guestbook comments from the owner

This Christmas was a beautiful white christmas and another look with snow on the trees without leaves. there is a 2 mile nature walk that ends at a private waterfall with benches and landscaping to enjoy the peacefull sound of water or have a picknick and just relax. the entire property outside was renovated including widing the driveway with 15 tons of new rock all around the cabin, adding plants and mulching the entire lot. 2 new flat screens too!

Beautiful home perfect for large family

  • 5 of 5

The Grandview Lodge was a bit further out of town but sooooo worth it. The Grandview Peaks area was gorgeous and very peaceful. The house was perfect for two families with bedrooms and bathrooms on each of the three floors. The house was immaculate and had everything we needed. The game room was a plus for the kids and adults as well. We enjoyed cookouts and beautiful views of the mountains and sunsets from the back deck. The small lake was also fun for swimming and fishing with the kids. The owner was exceptionally easy to work with and provided us with so much helpful information regarding the area. We will definitely come back the next time we visit! Highly recommended!!

See you in the future!! Thanks again Dan

Scenic, beautiful cabin with extras!

  • 5 of 5

3 couples, each had their own space but cooked together. Easy to take care of it all. Did not like having to escort the trash. That was ONLY complaint I heard from anyone. Lake is fantastic for swimming! Had a ball.

Owner's Response: Glad you all had a great time at The Grandview Lodge, my home away from home as well, when guests are there for 2 or more nights the garbage has to be taken to the transfer station 3 miles away so wildlife does not get into the garbage, This has happened! The lake is great to cool off or fish as well, hiking on the trail to the waterfall is also very shaded and a enjoyable walk with a Lookout there or pick nick table to enjoy lunch! Hope to see you again! Thanks Dan

Relaxing Time in the Mountains!

  • 5 of 5

Our time in Dan's cabin in the NC mountains was so relaxing and enjoyable! Grand View Lodge was perfect for us - two couples for 4 nights. It was comfortable and clean, with decks all around the perimeter of the cabin. In the late afternoon you could sit on the front porch; in the morning, you could sip your coffee and watch the sun rise. Or you could sit on your deck off the bedroom and watch the sun rise!

The only unfortunate thing was the very hot weather we experienced, which residents say is unusual. Guess you can't you do anything about that, can you?

There is a lot to explore in the nearby towns of Black Mountain, Morganton & Chimney Rock.

Owner's Response: Thanks again for the review and glad you enjoyed my cabin, Black mountain is a great town to visit as well as Morganton, Mother nature does her thing and we just have to live with it, usually nights cool down with the breeze. See you in the future Thanks Dan

Great Family Week!

  • 5 of 5

Our family of eight spent , the July 4th week here and were very pleased with it. The cabin is spacious and comfortable with nice, sturdy furnishings. We enjoyed sitting on both porches and the deck, which were also furnished with comfortable rockers and chairs. The kitchen was very nicely stocked with quality pans, dishes, and silverware. It was very easy to work with Daniel--very responsive to email inquiries. This is probably the best rental out of the ten we've done through VRBO, and we highly recommend it.
