This beautifully renovated, large Riverside Apartment was originally the stables area of the ancient 18 century Watermill,’ Moulin du Fontcourt’, situated on the La Bonnieure river located close to the historical Town of Chasseneuil sur Bonnieure. The stables were an integral part of the Property itself and have now been converted into a luxury, spacious, ground level holiday rental with its own private access to the front of the building.

The Riverside Apartment affords comfort, excellent facilities together with spectacular views of the La Bonnieure river via the triple aspect windows overlooking the aquatic wildlife, birds and countryside. The unique gardens comprise of four land islands intersected by the river and small tributaries which meander through and around the property. Guests have full freedom to roam and relax throughout the garden settings.

Entering the Apartment through the large oak front door brings you into the generously proportioned hall with tiled floor, oak beamed ceilings, original Charente stone walling sympathetically matched decor in addition to hall table, clothes and hanging units plus entrance door to the Bedroom, Bathroom and separate WC.

Bearing right you enter the spacious open plan TV Lounge with a large, excellent quality, Sofa, (which doubles as a comfortable bed for 2), Armchair, tables and movable floor lighting plus TV with English and French satellite programming. Again, the original Charente stone walls are in full evidence along with the Oak beamed ceilings complimented by modern decor. You will be stunned by the two large windows overlooking the approaching river and country views.

Behind the Lounge area is the fully fitted kitchen with room to cook and utilise the U shaped expansive worktops. Facilities include an inset electric oven, 4 place Ceramic hob, Refrigerator, Washing Machine, Microwave, Toaster with the lower units housing the Crockery, Cooking utensils, Cutlery and, for your safety, a Fire extinquisher. The Kitchen window overlooks the rear of the river where you could often watch the fish basking in the sun below you.

Close to the Kitchen is the dining area with table and chairs. The table can be extended to seat 6 persons.

The very inviting Bedroom has Super king size double Bed for two adults, this can be removed to accommodate 2 or 3 standard adult size single beds instead if you prefer. Bedside tables, Bedside lighting, clothes hanging and storage plus a safety deposit box. Together with the excellent quality Sofa Bed provided in the Lounge which also sleeps 2 comfortably the Apartment can sleep 5 persons.

The Bathroom has a Bath with a curved Shower cubicle and large shower head above, Washbasin, heated towel rail. The WC is separate with Washbasin and Unit. Both have full automatic air extraction.

Despite its quiet, rural outlook Moulin du Fontcourt Riverside Apartment is in within walking distance to historic Chasseneuil sur Bonnieure Town with its excellent range of Bistro’s, Cafes & Restaurants plus all the shops and services you could need and is just 5 minutes by car to La Rochefoucauld and its grand Chateau. It is en route by excellent roads to Angouleme, known as the comic capital of the world and its painted mural trails through the old City. Cognac, the renowned City of Brandy where all of the distillers will make you welcome. Limoges and its beautiful pottery and dark history. Bordeaux, famous for its wine and long, long shopping street.

La Rochelle for the shellfish restaurant and historical sea port, Royan, for the wonderful 'conches' beach and fantastic shopping, Palais sur Mer for the sheer joy of being there and so many other great places.

All in all Moulin du Fontcourt Riverside Apartment is in the perfect location for touring South West France, its beautiful villages, many historical sights, superb coastlines and numerous other attractions. Our gardens and river location are of particular interest to Artists, Photographers, Fishermen, Cyclists, Holiday makers, home hunters seeking holiday homes, or those who, just like us, who have fallen under the spell of the warm and friendly Charente region and decided to make this second warmest area of South West France their permanent home.

About Tom Atkins

We are an English couple who grew to love France and visited often.

I,Thomas, spent many years in the UK Newspaper Industry in Executive Management. Susan owned and managed a chain of high quality Lingerie retail units before retiring in 2009. We are both 'people' people who love meeting others and entertaining whenever we can. It was almost inevitable that after our busy professional lives in the UK we find ourselves providing hospitality whilst living in our beloved France.

Why Tom Atkins chose Chasseneuil-sur-Bonnieure

We first saw this property in 2002 and although it was in pretty poor state at the time we fell in love with its sheer grandeur and the beautiful surroundings on the river. We holidayed nearby and each time we viewed it we knew it was for us. In 2003 we set out to buy it and restore it to its former majesty. It helped that the Town was only walking distance away and every facility we needed was so close at hand. Our neighbours were fantastic and all the local people so supportive. It took a long time and very hard work to complete this labour of love but many years later we have never regretted our decision. It gives us so much pleasure to now share this wonderful old Moulin, unique gardens and riverside with guests who appreciate its history, architecture and character and return to visit us year after year..

The Moulin is built in, on and around the La Bonnieure river and has spectacular river and countryside views. The gardens comprise of 4 islands intersected by the river and small tributaries. It abounds with Birdlife, river life and other wildlife. It is a fantastic place to relax and enjoy the Charentaise sunshine. Chasseneuil sur Bonnieure Town, just walking distance away, has many restaurants and facilities, The area is a great base for touring with excellent transport links links by Air, Train, Bus & Car and has many sporting and leisure facilities nearby..
