In a very tranquil setting, but within only 20 minutes drive to the medieval town of Sarlat, the amazing prehistoric caves at Les Eyzies de Tayac and the cave paintings at the famous Lascaux in Montignac. The rivers of the Vezere and Dordogne are both close by for canoeing and visiting numerous Chateaus, gardens and activity places for the children.
Our property is ideally situated 'in the middle of nowhere', but only 15 minutes from everywhere, which gives us a fantastic base to continue exploring and enjoying the beautiful countryside that we are fortunate to live in.
The many attractions through the valleys of the Vezere and the Dordogne will take you from prehistory through to mediaeval times with numerous caves, chateaus, museums, gardens and other family friendly activities and visitor centres. These include the world famous caves at Lascaux (only 15 minutes drive) and Font de Gaume at Les Eyzies de Tayac (also only 15 minutes drive) where you can still see the original paintings if you get up early enough to get tickets! Not far from these is the Chateau de Commarque, whose ruins were rescued from the undergrowth only a few years ago and are still being revealed.
La Roque Saint Christophe is a fantastic example of the use of a huge cliff dwelling used from prehistoric times right up until the beginning of the 20th century. The views of this as you are canoeing down the Vezere river are spectacular. The views of the different Chateaus, including Chateau de Beynac and Chateau de Castelnaud are equally spectacular if you choose to canoe down the Dordogne instead or by visiting the Jardins de Marqueyssac or the fortified village of Domme you will see breathtaking views of the winding Dordogne river hundreds of metres below.
Also there are many opportunities to sample traditional Perigordine menus including duck and Foie Gras, which the region is famous for and sample the world famous wines of Bergerac and Bordeaux.
