Angouleme an old city with ramparts atop a hill, cafe's bars restaurants shops, all on cobbled streets. Kayaking on the river in Jarnac is great, hours of pleasure and inexpensive. River walks or cycling, not forgetting the Hennessey tours! Plenty of shops and the usual bars, cafe's and restaurants, a very picturesque town offering boat hire and river trips. Cognac is also a lovely old town with it's market and the usual bars and cafe's. Good chinese restaurants too! Mouthiers sur Boeme is worth seeing, a pretty town that has been inhabited since neolithic times! There's a cave there with cave drawings 20,000 years old.
Don't worry, there's no cavemen there now carrying clubs, just the occasional Frenchman with his cap and pipe! Jonzac is also close my, a medieval town, loads of shops and bars cafe's and restaurants. The Antilles water park is fantastic, the largest of it's kind in europe. There is so much to see and do in and around Jarnac it's almost impossible to list it all, I hope the above gives you an idea of what this lovely part of France has to offer.
