About Barbi Fallows Ives

Our grandfather was chief engineer at the Biddeford-Saco Mill. He bought the property as a retirement home in 1954. In 1958, he built an apartment for himself over the garage. Our family (mom, dad and four sisters) began spending summers at the 'big house' in 1955. Our grandfather passed away in 1960, leaving the property to our parents.

We began offering the house for rent in the late 1980s, and added the garage as a rental unit in the 1990s.

Every fall and spring we (sisters) come together to make and share special memories (and labor) at our beautiful house and apartment. During "work weekends" we clean, organize and make repairs in preparation for our new and returning tenants. Our homes have been filled with the love and laughter of our family for three generations. It is the heart of our family. We hope it becomes a very special place for you and your family.

Why Barbi Fallows Ives chose Southern Coast of Maine

Our home is one of the last properties in the area with its original wood work and many of the original furnishings. It has been in our family for three generations.

What makes this house unique

Biddeford Pool is a lovely Maine coast town which still has the feel of a small, quiet village. Our home is situated on the water front. There is a beautiful rocky beach right across the street and a lovely sandy beach just 10 minutes walk away. Portland is the closest city. It has an historic district and modern district as well. Kennebunk and Kennebunkport are nearby as well, as are other sweet little peninsula towns similar to 'the Pool'.

Our home is warm and welcoming. All interior walls are wood, with painted bead board in the kitchen and carvings in fireplace mantels, it is a warm, old fashioned kind of place. Hand sewn curtains and cushions look like Grandma was just here.

Already missing the sound of ocean waves...

  • 5 of 5

The Fallow sisters own a gem of a house on the rocky Maine coast! My husband and I just enjoyed a wonderful week at this beautiful location. There are four upstairs bedrooms, each with an ocean view. The master even has a spacious porch looking directly at the water. The downstairs is cozy with a well stocked kitchen, comfy living room, dining room and large indoor porch wrapping around three sides. The upstairs bathroom is nicely modernized and a powder room on the first floor is a nice find in a home from the 1890's. Everything was spotless. The property is lovely. Cindy Fallow kindly and promptly answered any questions I had about the rental before and during my stay. Biddeford Pools is an amazing neighborhood-- charming, peaceful, and centrally located to Kennebunkport, Cape Porpoise and Portland. The local store had everything from milk for your morning coffee to yummy take-out lobster dinners. There is a rocky entrance (typical for Maine) to a beautiful 2 mike long beach just five minutes walk from the house. If you prefer, however, you can easily purchase a temporary permit at town hall that is good for any of three parking lots. 2 locations are accessible from noon on, 1 is good all day (at the Fortunes Rocks end of the beach). We had a great time, even on rainy days, and we will be back!

Summer Bliss

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed here for several years, after first seeing it long ago when friends had rented it (we are 30 year vacationers at Biddeford Pool). It provides a great access to both a 2 mile sandy beach and interesting ocean rock formations that are a wonderment for small children (and us old timers as well!). The home is sited for great views from every window with lots of windows to open to let in the breeze. A perfect layout for hosting friends/family with lots of nooks and crannies. A yard large enough to enjoy outdoor games or to just sit in a chair and watch the world go by. There is nothing quite like falling asleep to the sound of the waves after a great day spent in paradise. The owners are very easy to work with.

Fabulous house and views

  • 5 of 5

The house was just as described! The porch was wonderful-the pianos, ping-pong table and the great space in general. Although our weather was terrible the house was very accomodating and comfortable. We were all able to spread out and enjoy ourselves. The pebble beach in front of the house was great particularily when the tide was out. Getting to the big sandy beach was a bit of a walk-a parking permit would have been a help although at low tide the beach across the street was plenty of entertainment! The views-when it was not raining- were stunning! A treat for all despite the poor weather! The owner was very accomodating by phone and e-mail and the pictures on the website were the selling point for us.The house was clean and the ammenities were fabulous-a fully stocked kitchen, games, books, beach stuff, and lots of extras! We may be interested again next year! It was a great experience!

This is an unbelievable spot for enjoying the summertime with children or adults. Rocky shores provide beautiful views and fun exploring; the sandy beach is great for swimming, sunning or surf casting. Biddeford Pool is in one of the most scenic areas on the Maine coast. Ferry Beach State Park in nearby Saco, with 117 acres of trails, is great for nature hikes, while abundant wildlife can be seen on a canoe trip at Scarborough Marsh Nature Center. It’s a short drive to Kennebunk, renowned for its tree-lined streets, historic homes, antique shops and art galleries, or Kennebunkport, where the waterfront is bursting with great restaurants, clothing boutiques for many styles, and attractive gift shops. Also nearby, Old Orchard Beach is the place to go for seaside amusement parks and miniature golf. Just 20 miles away, the city of Portland boasts a world-class art museum and a historic district with some of the best shopping and dining experiences you'll find anywhere in New England.
