Beautiful North Truro Cottage

Bedrooms 1
Space 650 sq. ft.
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 2 - 7 nights

About the property

1 bedroom, 1 bathroom, sleeps 2 or 3

This beautiful and restful four-season cottage near bay and ocean beaches combines the comfort and ease of modern amenities with the charm of exposed beams and natural pine floors. The building, a renovated barn, has two stories, fifteen by twenty feet, with an attached full bathroom. The cottage is now completely solar-powered. Downstairs the open floor plan has a comfortable seating area with a daybed/couch, a dining table, and a fully equipped kitchen. French doors lead to a screened-in porch with table and chairs, creating a sense of continuous space, inside and out. Upstairs is light and airy, with windows looking over the back hill, gardens, and a large cherry tree full of songbirds. There is a high-quality queen bed and single bed by the windows (perfect for reading and daydreaming). The cottage is located on a large property next to a 150-year-old, cape-style farmhouse surrounded by vegetable and flower gardens. Organic vegetables, eggs and honey are all produced on the property and can be purchased when available. Situated in Pond Village in North Truro, bay beaches are just a ten minute walk down historic Pond Road. A two minute walk brings you to the village general store and two cafes, one serving artisanal chocolates made on premises. Ocean beaches are only a ten minute bike ride away. A TV, DVD player, iPod dock and WiFi allow you to connect to the modern world. There is also a basement with a washer/dryer and on-site parking. Summer visits are full of breezes, and winter stays are warmed by a state-of-the art heating system installed in 2013. This is an ideal getaway at any season for two or three people.

About Robert and Janice DuToit

My wife and I are both artists, teachers, and live on the property year round. Our son, who is 7, enjoys nature and raises butterflies in the summer, tends to the chickens, and loves to run and swim. We have spent years renovating and decorating the house and cottage which are both filled with beautiful artwork and good books. We spend a lot of our time cultivating vegetables and flowers, and raise chickens and bees. We eat the food we produce all year and enjoy selling produce to renters and neighbors when available.

Robert and Janice DuToit purchased this cottage in 2000

Why Robert and Janice DuToit chose Cape Cod

We loved the property the first minute we saw it and live in the cottage ourselves all summer and in the main house in winter. We were especially attracted to the rural feel of pond village and being surrounded by abundant nature, animal and bird life and the local culture of artists, tradesman and fisherman.

Lovely Seaside Sanctuary!

  • 5 of 5

This charming cottage has everything you need (and then some!) to enjoy your time on the Cape. What an absolute gem! My only regret is not stumbling upon it sooner!

Janice and Rob are such thoughtful hosts and are eager to offer excellent local suggestions whether it be a gorgeous hike or a delicious dinner. But! Should you care to stay in and cook yourselves as we very much enjoyed doing, the kitchen is fully equipped. As folks who enjoy a good cup of joe, the coffee grinder and French press were an excellent surprise!

The location? It cannot be beat. Nestled among the National Seashore, this cottage is located within walking distance to the bay (as well as a lovely market and chocolate shop) and if you're up for it, about 1.5 miles to the ocean side. We opted to catch the sunrise at Highland Light (a 5 minute drive) and it was so beautiful it was surreal!! As for the sunset, follow one of the thoughtfully hand drawn maps to 'Magic Mountain' and prepare to have your breath taken away. It will leave you truly speechless! This 360 degree view is just incredible.

Although we did venture out here and there, we felt ourselves being drawn back to the cottage because it is just that inviting. It is an excellent spot to relax and just be. Take a peek through the collection of books. There are so many interesting reads and this spot is a perfect place to curl up with a good book and listen to the birds.

Whatever brings you here, this lovely seaside sanctuary will offer you such peace that it will be hard to leave! It is the perfect spot to slow down and just breathe. We left feeling relaxed, rejuvenated and eagerly anticipating our next trip.

Well-stocked, sweet, cozy, quiet, and all-around lovely cottage (best vacation ever)

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I spent one of our best vacations at this well-stocked, sweet, cozy, quiet, and all-around lovely cottage in late June. It truly has everything you need to make food, learn something new (so many good books), have fun (Monopoly anyone?), and relax (you truly feel like you are away from everything, but the location has a winery down the street in one direction and a small grocery store in the other). The owners are so kind and thoughtful and the hand-drawn maps of local hikes were a true bonus (the dunes hike ended up being one of our favorite parts of our week). The bay-side beach is a short walk, P-town is a 12 minute drive, and the ocean beaches are even less. It was one of the first times on a trip we truly wanted to stay close to our rental because it was such a special area.

We were very much in need of a week away from our lives, and this cottage helped restore us. It was hard to leave, but we hope to make this an annual visit.

This little cottage was lovely ...

This little cottage had everything we needed. It was lovely and clean and well-equipped, and the people who own it were gracious hosts. We had no complaints whatsoever, it exceeded our expectations. We will certainly return here in the future if we can.

Melrose, Ma

A unique, quiet, and restful Cape Cod rental.

  • 5 of 5

If you want a Cape Cod experience this is the place for you. If you want to escape to a quiet restful place this is the place for you. The large screened in porch is a real plus. Fully equipped kitchen. The upstairs bedroom has great windows which let in the winds from the ocean.

Located in the heart of the National Seashore. The owners have made sure that even the little things you need are there.

The cottage is located on the property of a 150 year old Cape farmhouse in Pond Village and surrounded by the Cape Cod National Seashore. There are many town and National Seashore beaches to choose from. Bike and hiking trails are nearby as well as freshwater ponds for swimming, golf course, and a winery just up the road. Provincetown is ten minutes away and has great restaurants, art galleries and museums, as well as some of the best whale watching trips on the east coast.
