Great Vacation House

  • 5 of 5

This house is even better than it appears in the pictures! My family from Ohio, Florida and New York all gathered here to celebrate my son's wedding. It was like being in our own home. Lots of room for everyone to have their own space, beautiful grounds and pathway to the lake where we had access to a canoe and kayak. Everything is just as it's described in the rental details. In addition, the owner was extremely accommodating. The town of Falmouth is quaint and lovely. We highly recommend this property and look forward to going back ourselves.

Spectacular

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful property with spectacular views, elegant home, lovely landscaping, crystal clear lake with beach front. My neice's wedding was nearby and several family members had rented houses as well. This property was the magnet for family get-togethers, from eating out on the patio overlooking the lake, to swimming and boating with the kids, to building campfires on the beach in the evenings. We highly recommend it!

Beautiful property but needs upkeep.

  • 3 of 5

Property was beautiful but definitely could use a little TLC. We stayed the week here and held our wedding on Saturday. We arrived to meet John, the owenrt, and be given the key and shown around. During our walk through he demonstrated that some of the lights did not function (particularly the kitchen). After John left we explored the house/property ourselves and noticed that the inside of the house was not 100% clean. There were cobwebs around the window and door frames in the kitchen/dining area. We also found that the shower in our bedrooms bathroom needed some cleaning as the shower curtain was moldy and there were numerous spiders in the shower. We discovered the half bath upstairs had the same issues. This was very disappointing as we were paying just under $4,000 to stay here. The house should have been absolutely spotless! The property itself is very beautiful. Gorgeous patio to sit at and have your morning coffee and eat breakfast at---lovely views. There is a private beach to use but I strongly suggest bringing watershoes as it is VERY rocky. There was a kayak and a canoe to use---both of which we enjoyed. There were floats in the beach shed but all had holes and couldn't be used. The water is very clean and we lived swimming there every day but again---bring watershoes! All in all we had a nice week spent at the Owls Nest but were disappointed at the level of cleanliness the house was in. For the amount of money spent there should never have been an issue with that. I would recommend this property to others but hope the owner recognizes the necessary updates to make the next renter's experience flawless.

Owner's Response: The cleaning crew has been very diligent in coming on time to clean before guests arrive. I, the owner, also am there to oversee while I do the laundry, towels and linens. The guests were shown around, given keys with phone numbers and asked to call if there were any issues. No call was ever made as any issues would have been corrected immediately. During the week I came to remove trash and met the bride who was very pleasant but did not apprise me of any issues. The beach is sandy with some stones as the lake has receded due to a very hot summer. Nature. Inflatables in the beach house were left by other guests and not provided by me. The guests said they enjoyed the canoe and kayak but didn't mention they also had a sailboat and rowboat to use. I did visit to see if there were any issues during the wedding and found none. The property was left with much trash from the wedding which should have been removed by the caterers. Shower curtains were replaced. Two sets of guests who followed were repeat customers and have booked next summer again, one for two weeks and one for four. Many of my guests are repeats who enjoy both patios, the beach and boats and the serenity.

Beautiful property. Needs some upkeep.

  • 3 of 5

We spent the entire last week of August at this property and hosted our wedding in the yard on 8/29/2015. We arrived on Monday and pulled down a dirt, dead end road and loved the feeling of privacy it had. Met the owner, John, who said he would meet us there to give us the key and show us around. During a walk through of the house he demonstrated some lights (even in the kitchen) did not function. Continued on with the walk through, handed us they keys and he left---stating he'd be back on Thursday to take the trash down the driveway for pickup. No problem. As the day went on to explore the house on our own we realized it was not spiffy clean. There were cobwebs around windows and door areas in the kitchen and the shower/tub in our bedroom was not 100% clean. There were also a few spiders in the shower that had to be removed. Not for nothing, but for paying almost $4,000 for the week, this house should have been absolutely SPOTLESS. The property itself is beautiful. It sits on the end lot surrounded by water. There is a private beach down the back of the house, but make sure you bring water shoes as it is extremely rocky. There are floats in the beach shed but they were all unusable as they had holes. There was a kayak and a canoe---both of which we used and enjoyed. The water is super clean and well maintained. We used the fire pit down by the beach at night which was nice as well. Our wedding day was nearly perfect and our pictures came out beautifully with the scenery. Our catering company did tell me during our reception that John (the owner) came to check on things and make sure his house was ok.. .which it was. Like I said...the property is absolutely stunning but could use a few changes to make it even better (the rocky beach area for one). Also, the cleanliness of the house really somewhat disappointed me. We paid a good amount to rent this house for the week and it should have definitely been immaculate. Other than that...we had a great week there and a great wedding on Saturday. Would recommend this house to others but we will probably look elsewhere to make sure we get what we expect and what we pay for.

A Gem

  • 5 of 5

Our family of eight stayed at Owls Nest for one week toward the end of the summer in 2014 and lucked into great weather.

The house, or perhaps I should call it an estate, was perfect. Beautiful gardens and plantings surround the house and yard. There are scenic water views from every room! The house plan was ideal for multiple cooks in the kitchen, for having separate areas if children are sleeping so adults can make some noise, and a quiet office for a bit of work. You could enjoy games in the lovely grassy side yard with a large patio and tables. Or have a cook-out in the back w/ barbecue, patio and tables.

The owner, John, has a wonderful attitude of welcoming families and their pets and having everything available that you might need so you can relax.

The pond and beach are delightful for swimming although a bit rocky so I suggest bringing water shoes. There are rock steps down to the beach and that might be a little difficult for older people but were fine for our family. Once down the hill there is a grass area for lounging with a fire-pit. John provides a kayak, canoe, and sailboat and we thoroughly enjoyed all three. Thanks for sharing your house John…it was a fantastic vacation!

Great family vacation spot

  • 5 of 5

What a great retreat for a family vacation! The property is unique on a very clean fresh water pond and easy access to ocean beaches. Falmouth is less crowded than other parts of the Cape. Plenty of things to do and great restaurants. John Salerno is a most gracious and accommodating host that helped make the vacation a special memory!
