About the property

East Farm Holiday Cottage, which sleeps 3, offers 4 star Visit England accommodation and is part of the Quality in Tourism Walkers Welcome scheme. It is a very comfortable annexe to the owners' stone-built farmhouse, in a quiet position on the hillside, less than a mile from the charming village of Middleton-in-Teesdale with its shops, pubs and cafes. Set in the stunning Durham Dales, it offers superb panoramic views south and south west across the Tees Valley, along which both the Pennine Way and the Teesdale Way pass.

The cottage provides an ideal country retreat for those wishing to get away from it all and enjoy the sights and sounds of the countryside in a beautiful peaceful setting. Upper Teesdale has been part of a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty for over 25 years and an European Geopark for ten years. As such, it offers a wonderful base for those interested in wildlife, geology or wild flowers, as well as for walkers and cyclists.

For walkers the footpaths start at the cottage door and allow you to explore the nearby woods, moors and the Tees Valley, including nearby High Force. The cottage is pet friendly and up to two well-behaved dogs are welcome, provided that they are kept under strict control.

A beautifully maintained and very well equipped cottage with extremely helpful owners!

We had a wonderful week of long cycle rides and hikes in the area. Middleton has plenty of tea shops and restaurants and a very well-stocked Co-op. When the clouds came down, we kept to the valleys with their beautiful waterfalls and river-side walks and when the sun shone, we headed for the high ground beyond Cowgreen reservoir. The fly fishing on the Tees was brilliant with a personal day record of 33 trout! Next time we visit the area in August we will pack some midge repellent for those still warm days! East Farm Holiday Cottage had everything we needed for a great week, including lovely views from the master bedroom and the living room. We enjoyed seeing the chickens pecking around and saw many different birds just from the windows of the cottage.
