Warm and Inviting Condominium with internet GOLF NEARBY, Mi Casa Del Mar

Bedrooms 2
Space 1,200 sq. ft.
Property type condo
Minimum Stay 7 nights

About the property

2 bedrooms, 2 full baths, sleeps 6 with 2 on queen blow-up mattress

If this is your first trip to Akumal, you are in store for a marvelous adventure. “Akumal” means “place of the turtles” in the Mayan language. In season, you can watch the turtles lay their eggs and then march to the sea. You will never forget the experience.

Our condominium is particularly lovely because we have very high ceilings and a large, open floor plan. The living and dining area adjoin, but do not seem like the same space. I have decorated with antiques and art from the region, so you will fell more at home than in some other rentals. We kept it to ourselves for ten years and only started renting in 2008.

We have two spacious bedrooms with king size beds. Both rooms are light and airy. The Master's bath in the room area, while the Guest Room's full bath is just outside the door.

Fabulous ruins, snorkeling, deep sea diving, turtle watching, shopping, relaxing and lots of fun await you here. I look forward to hearing from you. Call or email with any questions.

Akumal: We are only a ten minute walk from the 'center' of Akumal. There are two small grocery stores, an Internet room that is very reasonable, a few shops and a laundry. There are also three very good restaurants here in the center. You can access Akumal beach from here. It's only about one hundred yards from the center. The snorkeling off this beach is really good. Akumal is always casual.

Things to Do: Shopping is very good in Tulum, which is only 15 minutes south, and in Playa del Carmen which is only 22 minutes north. Sightseeing is endless. You can take day trips to Tulum or Coba, or you can stay overnight at Chitze Itza or Merida. We recommend them all. There is an endless list of possible activities for you to enjoy in and around Akumal and all through the Mayan Riviera. There are PGA golf courses and world class diving spots. The fresh water cenotes are just beautiful and very refreshing. I have snorkeled many with our children. I prefer to have a guide direct us when we go the cenotes.

My Favorite Thing to Do: I love to walk the beach from in front of our apartment and then to the right. It is not completely sandy. It is covered with thousands of pieces of washed-up coral and small shells. I collect the most striking pieces of coral that I find. I have so many now, I can be very choosy. I will sit for hours there and just commune with the sea and nature. I am usually totally alone and for me, there is no other place where I feel so at one with the world.

Vacation Get Away

  • 5 of 5

We recently returned from our vacation and had a wonderful time. My husband, our two sons ages 6 and 9 and I spent a week in Akumal visiting the surrounding area. The condo was well cared for and beautifully furnished. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Very relaxing atmosphere and would highly recommend it.

The condo/Akumal was in a perfect location, central to sight-seeing and unlike Playa del Carmen, much quieter. The restaurants in the area were all very good.

The kids loved swimming in the pool and snorkling at Akumal beach and the nearby lagoon. A highlight for them was swimming among the sea turtles that were passing through. They also loved Xel-Ha. My husband and I enjoyed visiting the Mayan ruines of Tulum and Coba (we recommend renting a bike near the entrance to Coba since it is very hot and the ruines are very spread out). On the return from Coba we stopped at the Grand Cenote to cool of and would recommend it. The kids enjoyed snorkling in the Cenote. They also enjoyed Xcarate. The night show was impressive. We rented a car and found it very easy to get around. Over all it was a very relaxing vacation and a great place to stay.

Amazing Vacation at Mi Casa Del Mar in Akumal

  • 5 of 5

Our family of six, with 4 girls ages 9, 12, 14, and 17, stayed at this beautiful, spacious, waterfront condo from March 8th to March 15th, and we loved everything about it. The view from the very large balcony was spectacular and allowed us to just relax and listen to the waves crashing on the rocks and see various birds flying by while watching the sun rise. We loved the layout of the kitchen / dining room / living room, making it easy for everyone to take part in food preparation. Loved the rustic furniture and Mexican style decor, as well as the various shell collections. The two bedrooms each had a comfortable king size bed, and all the rooms had ceiling fans with air conditioning in both bedrooms, making it very comfortable, even during the day.

We loved the area with it's many restaurants and souvenir shops within a short walk. Our favorite was the Turtle Bay Cafe with Lucy's homemade ice cream. We also walked to the Yal Ku Lagoon for some snorkeling as well as to the Akumal Beach for some swimming with the turtles. Although the beach is now sectioned off to protect the turtles, we were still able to see them from very close if we swam up to the buoys. An experience that we will never forget.

We did not require to rent a vehicle as we hired a transportation company to shuttle us back and forth from the airport as well as to give us a tour of the Chichen Itza and swimming in the IK KIL cenote which was amazing. Lots to do around for all ages but our girls just loved to stay at the condo and enjoy the pool. The Iguanas really entertained us while we sat around the pool and they even posed for a photo-shoot. We also walked along the shore and found some really interesting fossils.

The staff were all amazing and Roger was very helpful. Thanks for sharing this amazing piece of heaven with us.

The only regret is that we did not stay longer. This is one place that we are definitely thinking of visiting again some day.

Highly recommend staying!

  • 5 of 5

What an amazing space to call home for a week! I would highly recommend staying there. This was a perfect condo for our group of four adults (two couples). We had more than enough room. This was our first time staying in a condo in Akumal, we have previously stayed at all-inclusives. As soon as we arrived we were absolutely thrilled with our decision to stay there. The view was breathtaking and we spent many hours on the patio enjoying the view! The condo is spacious and beautifully decorated. It was well equipped with everything we needed. The pictures do not reflect how lovely this place really is.

Before arriving Jane gave me the managers contact information. Roger responded to all my questions exceptionally fast. He helped set up transportation to and from the airport and we were able to arrange a stop at Wal-Mart for supplies on our way.

The staff, Roger, Alex, Epie and China were absolutely great and always ready to help with anything we needed. We cooked most of our breakfast and lunches and went out for dinners. Buena Vida, La Lunita, Turtle Bay Café and Quo Ondo were some of our favorites.

We experienced a temporary issue with some renovation work at a different unit that was completely out of the owner’s control. After letting Jane know about this, she was exceptionally gracious and remedied the situation immediately.

We will definitely be back in 2016 and will be referring our friends in Minnesota to stay there as well. Thank you Jane!

Wonderful vacation!

  • 5 of 5

My two 20-something granddaughters and I have just returned from a 9-day stay at Mi Casa Del Mar in Akumal and are very pleased with our choice of accommodations. We loved Akumal and found the owner's tips on restaurants and grocery stores most helpful. Bought roasted chicken, as suggested....delicious! We particularly enjoyed these restaurants: La Lunita and Akumal Cafe. The location of the condo is ideal, mid-way between Half-Moon Bay and Turtle Bay. We loved walking every day to one or the other. The wonderful decor was a pleasure....beautiful antiques and/or reproductions. I loved the beaded jaguar heads so much that, at one of the local gift shops, I purchased a small one to bring home. And the soothing sound of the surf outside along with the ocean breezes made porch-sitting one of the best parts of the stay. I suggest posting a picture of the view from the porch....gorgeous! We traveled to see ruins at Coba and Tulum. Also snorkeled off the beach, seeing sea turtles at Turtle Bay. Perhaps the snorkeling off a boat, away from busy Turtle Bay, would have allowed for seeing more colorful fish. One recommendation: we went thinking we would have access to laundry facilities and did not feel comfortable asking China to do our laundry. This would never have been a deal-breaker for us, but we would have preferred to understand ahead of time that we would not be able to do our own laundry. Otherwise, we would definitely recommend this condo and a stay in Akumal to others. Many thanks to the owner and to the staff for a wonderful vacation.

Akumal Rocks!

  • 5 of 5

Arrived at Condo New Years eve. Condo was spacious, bright. Huge patio/deck overlooking ocean. The driver that Jane arranged to pick us up at airport was awesome even after spending almost entire day at airport due to another arrival not showing up in the morning (so he waited all day for us to arrive). Dropped us at grocery store for supplies and waited another hour while we dealt with huge crowds due to New Years eve shopping. Can't say enough what a good first impression he gave us. On site staff at the condo were also very good to deal with, friendly and helpful. Pool is great, bit of a walk to nice beach. Great place to stay but be prepared to walk a few blocks for restaurants, store etc. Not a huge issue unless it's raining (which it did almost entire time we were there). Head south to Tulum and area to check out local ruins and lots of good food as well. We were very happy with the accommodations. Spent a lot of time on the deck just enjoying the view:)

Fantastic vacation

  • 5 of 5

We just got back from a week in heaven. We loved the beach at Akumal and saw lots of sea turtles, sting rays, and fish while we were snorkeling. Buena Vida and Turtle Bay Restaurants had great food, loved the ice cream at Lucy's too. The condo was exactly what we needed to fix meals for ourselves, sleep, and relax in. We loved the pool and the view and sound of the ocean waves crashing on the reef out our balcony window. The maid, China, kept us in towels and cleaned every other day, which was just right. The fans and ocean breeze kept the condo comfy and the air conditioners in the bedrooms at night were awesome.

We brought our daughter and son in law with us and all of us agreed that we need to come back.
