About Maria Slaby
We are so happy to share our beautiful piece of heaven with your group of up to 20 of your closest friends / family! Little River Harmony has been a labor of love for our whole family and we couldn't' be more grateful for all the wonderful guests we've shared our home with since we built it in 2007. Ya'll make our special retreat a home! Little bit about us...(learn / see more at our website Our bustling family of six has grown up in more ways than one at Little River Harmony. Our four, homeschooled kids, raging in ages from 8-14 when we broke ground, participated in every phase of construction of our treasured log home. This experience alone instilled in them respect and appreciation for all things unexpected that come from building a home 500 miles away from home! Work ethic and resilience were the most notable outcomes of this experience for them. And we couldn't be more pleased. Today, this motley crew has matured into full-fledged and functioning persons of society, muscling through the good and the bad of life with both grit and grace. Who knew when we dared to dream of building this sweet retreat that so much more would come of it?! Graciousness beyond measure, from our family to yours. Please consider staying with us. We'd love to be part of your happy memories.

Why Maria Slaby chose Mentone
Mentone, Alabama is the picture of tranquility that's hard to deny, for sure, but our location takes that a step further. I'm pretty sure your first stroll down our long, meandering drive will convince you, just as it did us way back when we found property in when our ragamuffin crew of six tromped through the undeveloped property looking for the river! In an instant, we knew we were home.

Great Family Experience in my mom's
We were able to celebrate my mom's 80th birthday in "her dream cabin" with all my siblings and additional family members. Great secluded location with trail down to the river, large common room, huge beautiful screened in porch, and great atmosphere. We loved our stay at Little River Harmony and the owner was a pleasure to work with! We hope to be able to return some day.
Beautiful mountain retreat!
Little River Harmony is a perfect retreat for families or couples. Easy to find and located on a beautiful hill above the Little River. Hiking trails on the property, canoes, plenty of things for kids to do inside if you can't leave the house--it is a perfect family vacation spot! About 5 minutes from great restaurants in Mentone, 20 minutes to Ft. Payne and a beautiful short drive to both Little River Canyon with breathtaking views or Desoto Falls. I wish we had had more time to enjoy the house, but we were in the area for a baseball tournament. At the end of a long day of playing, we all couldn't wait to climb in the comfy beds. I don't have a single complaint! Thank so much for opening your beautiful home!
Amazingly peaceful and relaxing space!
Amazing space - worked great for our group retreat and the owners are super kind and accommodating.
Absolutely the best!!
We had a ladies family retreat that included three generations and we could not have loved our time here any more! Little River Harmony met EVERY SINGLE ONE of the criteria we were looking for. The location is great, being just down the road from the downtown area of Mentone. The cabin is fabulously decorated, spotless, roomy, cozy, private, and has a fantastic view. It's like being in a treehouse with complete privacy without being too far away from shops and restaurants. The two fireplaces are great, we loved the twinkle lights inside and out, the screened porch is fabulous and has plenty of rocking chairs for everyone. There's a huge fire pit down by the creek and we even went out in the two canoes! One of our favorite things is that there was plenty of seating in the den area around the TV and fireplace. Most large cabins we've rented before haven't had enough comfortable seating for a larger group. We spent most of our time together around the fireplace playing games and catching up. There are plenty of bathrooms and the beds were very comfortable. Maria is absolutely the best hostess I've worked with and she makes sure that you have everything you need for the perfect vacation. Be sure to visit the Wildflower Cafe before you leave. There's a wonderfully charming man that will serenade your group. We all sang several songs together and it was the perfect ending to our weekend.
Awwww thank you, Lisa for your kind words! I'm so happy you had such great time! I'm certain your groups' joyful spirit left its mark on our home, and I couldn't be more grateful! Looking forward to having you back!
Great place to share a few days with a lot of family!
We really enjoyed the porch and fireplace. Weather was not great but there was plenty of room to hang out inside. We watched the Tide Roll through sketchy Direct TV service...the only real problem at all! Loved it!
Beautiful views and cozy!
We rented the entire cabin (top and bottom units) for our 3rd annual family Thanksgiving retreat! Every year we have around 20 people spend a weekend together and each year we have chosen a different location.
This house has been the favorite of the 3 and here is why: it is very private and sets way back from the road. The views from the cabin are beautiful, it overlooks a river. It has 3 wonderful fireplaces and a great screened in porch. Lots of beds and bathrooms made everyone comfortable. There is also plenty of seating in the main living areas.
However- I think this house works better for smaller groups and here is why. The main living/eating/dining area is cramped for 20 people, especially when 8 of those people are children. The kitchen is tiny with almost no storage so we literally had laundry baskets filled with supplies stacked in the corner. Thankfully we did not prepare a traditional Thanksgiving meal as it would have been nearly impossible in the kitchen.
Also- there is no interior access between the two levels. The family staying in the lower unit had to walk outside and up steps to gain access to the upper level where the main living area is (where we spent most of our time.)
Lastly- there is no flat yard that provides a great space for kids to run around except near the water! so if you have have young kids like we did that can't be trusted near water, consider that as well!
I would definitely consider renting either the upper or lower unit again as it was really lovely but it just didn't quite work for a group of 20! If you have a group of 10 or so the upper unit would be fantastic!
Thank you, Bethany! So happy to be ranked as your favorite! We appreciate your kind words and wish your family a wonderful holiday season!
