Guestbook comments from the manager

We had a great time at Villa Oceana. The view was spectacular and the villa was perfect for two. We used the pool everyday and had it all to ourselves. We made use of the grill almost every night and had lovely sunset dinners on the deck. The villa was conveniently located close to everything. We couldn't have asked for a better place! Thanks Om Villas!

Great view, location

This is a perfect villa for two people. The views from the private deck and from the pool are fantastic. Often times you will just spend the day lounging up here. No need to leave!

A few notes / cautions before you book:

(1) the bedroom is really a loft and you get to it via spiral staircase. The ceiling is very low up there so the sleeping situation (or getting to it) will be uncomfortable if you are tall or wide or clumsy!

(2) the villa is for sale. I was emailed by the management company the day we arrived to see if we wouldn't mind stepping out for two showings. I was not aware and this was not discussed or communicated in advance as a condition of rental. I was uncomfortable with it. Just have that conversation with them before you book. If you're fine with people coming in and out, great. I am not.

(3) there are no closets, only hooks, so you won't be able to hang much up if you need to

(4) try not to arrive after dark. Unfortunately our flight into STT was delayed four hours and while the directions to the driveway were good, we had a very hard time finding the building. I actually walked into the wrong villa that first night! Once you've made the left into the steep driveway labeled 'upper deck villas,' the first tall building you see in front of you at the top of that hill, there you make a very sharp left into a flat driveway. Do not continue going up the hill! Pool will be on the left, villa 11 is right after pool on left. (5) wifi works, but is spotty. (6) AT&T cell phones DO work on St. John. Just be careful going to north side and coral bay as you will pick up charges from BVI. I took the $30 package that ATT texted to me. Be safe than sorry and just cancel as soon as you get home.

The villa was pretty clean but there were still hairs and little dust particles on the sink. There were Clorox wipes and other cleaning supplies under kitchen sink that I used. Villa also had plenty of paper towels, spices, coffee filters, ziplock bags etc. only bad thing is one of the cabinet hinges storing said item broke off while we were there :(

Villa comes with a large cooler and a couple of small ones as well, Ice packs are in freezer, great for beach trips. A/C also works very well.

Very small complex, you will rarely need to share the pool.

Close proximity to town and markets is also fantastic. It was also convenient to book boating trips out of Cruz Bay watersports who launches off the dock at Westin

Amazing Views!

  • 5 of 5

This was my first trip to St.John. Villa Oceana exceeded my expectations! The view was stunning. The villa was comfortable, clean and had all the comforts of home. It was so peaceful and the sunsets were amazing! The villa is conveniently located close to town for shopping, restaurants and nightlife. I can't wait to go back in October.

Great Villa and Great Location

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I stayed at Villa Oceana for a week. The location was perfect, a short drive to everything, beaches, shopping, bars and restaurants. The villa was great, well equipped kitchen, nice living area and a comfortable bedroom. The deck is very private and the view was just amazing. My wife and I have spent a lot of time in the islands but this villa by far has most amazing views we've experienced in the Caribbean. Excellent vacation. We will be returning!

Great view, unit is in state of neglect, however

  • 2 of 5

A previous review indicated that the roof (directly over the bed) leaked, and the owner replied that it had been fixed. Not true - it rained at night several times and the roof leaked terribly. Someone came to repair it with some goop (probably the same as the first time) but it did no good.

An ugly old rug covered broken tiles in the living room, the kitchen stove was not supplied with enough gas and ran out after cooking for 15 minutes, a cabinet door had broken hinges, an electrical outlet in the kitchen didn't work, and when appliances were plugged into another outlet it became overloaded and everything in the kitchen stopped working.

Condensation from the air conditioning caused a constant, large puddle of water on the floor tiles of the deck, which was very slippery and dangerous.

When we contacted the property manager, which we had to do several times, especially about the leaky roof, she became annoyed and told us that we needed to be patient, and that these things would be fixed....shortly after we were leaving.

The unit wasn't very clean, either. And, there was no closet or any place to hang clothes. Because this is half of what was once a full unit that was split down the middle into two units, it is very narrow, and there is no soundproofing from the neighbors.

The view and location were wonderful, though. However, I would not recommend this property, especially since we have stayed at another property on St. John at a comparable price and it was so much nicer; we only had positive things to say about that one.

Owner's Response: Although the owners felt this review to be a bit extreme, they wanted to respond and share that the villa has been totally renovated. The villa now has brand new wood floors (no more carpet and no more tile), new grill, stove, and refrigerator. The leak has been repaired and they did try to get someone to the villa while the guest was there.. in the islands sometimes it does take time, unlike in the states. The outdoor deck furniture has been completely replaced with luxury furniture from restoration hardware. It is also important to note that the villa was never a split unit as the guest seems to think, the condos were built this way and there has never before been a noise complaint in the 11 years the villa has been renting. We hope you enjoy the renovations.

Loved this place!

  • 4 of 5

The view was our favorite part of this rental, just as beautiful as in the pictures. Spending time on the deck with coffee or cocktails was splendid. The AC and ceiling fan worked great when we needed it, but that was only a few evenings. The place was very clean, kitchen well stocked for two, coffee maker and grinder were my most used items. Plenty of hot water for showers. WIFI worked perfectly, nice to post my pictures on facebook in the evenings. Plenty of fresh towles, ice chest, some beach chairs ( they are sorta on their last leg, but OK). Easy parking, but that last hill up to the house is a challange the first time, after a day or so you'll be a pro.! Bed was confortable, we slept great. I saw a few tiny ants, but that was my own fault, left some crumbs on the counter. I heard one misquito one night. Close to Starfish Market and all the action in town. We did'nt use the pool but it looked beautiful. Really private when we were there, where was everybody? Got a real good deal at the last minute on this little villa, fresh flowers in a vace when we arrived. Just one negative for us was the narrow spiral staircase to the bedroom, I did'nt like that. I would return. If you rent here or anywhere on the island put out a bowl of sugar on the deck and see a sweet gang of yellow birds get a sugar high (Bananaquits). We had just a perfect time in St. John!

A Slice of Heaven on Earth

  • 5 of 5

I have truly found paradise. This villa is so nicely decorated and incredibly comfortable. I love to cook and was so pleased to find how well stocked the kitchen was and that the grill was so conveniently placed on the lanai outside of the kitchen.

I am a stickler for nice linens and was thrilled with the quality and quantity of them.

The view from the marble deck was spectacular from morning to sunset - which is a million dollar view! The double lounge on the deck was the perfect place to sip on coffee and meditate into gratitude for the gift of this week.

I called the owner to ask a question about the dish setup and was amazed at the immediate response and the quick fix she was able to give me over the phone. I hate to admit it but I had pressed the wrong button and set everything askew. Within minutes all was well.

The air conditioning and ceiling fan kept the temperature of the villa at a perfect level. The fresh air was also so inviting.

The location of the villa is close to everything and yet just far enough away to feel secluded and peaceful.

Since I own my own company I had to check emails and field an occasional phone call. The WiFi set up is high speed and the cell phone coverage was perfect!

The only thing I would change, if I could, would have been to book 2 weeks instead of 1. Next visit will be 2 weeks for certain.
