Pristine Log house, sleeps up to 10 using sofa beds in living rooms (6 to 8 comfortably with children), located in a heavily wooded area outside of Ligonier, PA in the Laurel Mountains. Minutes from Laurel Country Club and the Rolling Rock Club. 10 Minutes from historic Ligonier, PA.
Well maintained with Internet access, satellite dish and local phone. Painstaking renovation of this 18th century log house has modern additions of a BR suite with bath and a fully equipped kitchen.
We were here first!
Brian purchased this house in 1976
Very private, beautifully restored Log House in the middle of the Laurel Highlands and close to all three local ski mountains - Laurel Valley 10 minutes, 7 Springs and Hidden Valley are only 25 minutes. Pittsburgh is only an hour drive by PA Turnpike.
Secluded, quiet, heavily location, but minutes from Historic Ligonier Laurel Valley and Rolling Rock Clubs. Rector PA is in the center of the North Easts best wild game hunting and fishing.
Our family (including 2 dogs and a 3 month old) stayed here over New Years. It was a beautiful, quiet location. Easy to get to from Ligioner and worth the trip! We found the "new wing" of the house very comfortable with heating, large master bedroom and attached bath. The kitchen (as other renters have commented before) is a little out-dated however they do supply most of your cooking needs. Wifi worked well. The house has an air of "old world charm" and "cozy cottage." We enjoyed a nice wood fire in the living room and played games most of our stay. Brian got in touch with us earlier in the week and on the day of our visit (via text) and was there to meet us to show us around the cabin that evening. Would recommend for those looking to stay in the area!
The cabin is wonderful. It is almost utterly private -- the only creatures you will see are deer. The house itself is 200 years old, and charmingly outfitted and appropriately so. The modern extension is stylistically consistent, and is air conditioned, which was wonderful in the blazingly hot August when we were there. (The air con doesn't really extend to the old cabin, but that's okay.)
Nick was solid and professional, and we were met by Brian, who was staying at the large family house nearby (though scarcely visible through the trees.) Brian was always helpful and super-nice. Everything was well maintained and clean.
The only comments I would offer Brian and Nick are -- to upgrade the kitchen. The stove smoked furiously, but did not set off the smoke alarm (batteries?) The sink faucet sprayed in your face. Some implements are missing. It's all kind of 25 years old or more.
Also -- an outdoor eating area, or just a picnic table would be great. A BBQ might be nice... there is a firepit, but hard to cook on it without the right equipment.
The TV is small and ancient, but we didn't come to watch TV! Others might feel differently.
On the whole, this is a wonderful, magical place that would be ideal even for two families. The cost is quite high, and for that money it would be awful nice to have a more functional kitchen. But I would return. We made wonderful memories.
Simply adorable. The pictures do not do this property justice! Cabin is much bigger than it appears, and the newer addition blends in beautifully with the older part of the house. The property is the best part, with a wonderfully large, flat yard with plenty of open space and shady trees. The furnishings and antiques add to the ambiance.
The owner/agents were very attentive and texted or emailed immediately when we had a question.
Only down side was that the kitchen could be a bit better stocked with cooking utensils, wine glasses, baking pans, cutting knives etc. - fine for a small group, but a bit tough to cook a large meal.
Over all and excellent location, close to town, but a world away! Will definitely go back.
This beautiful cabin was just what my friends and I had been looking for. It was both rustic and well kept. We adored it and had so much fun while we stayed. Our hosts were very kind. Everything was extremely clean and the cabin was charming. We will definitely stay again!
