Down East Magazine listed Harbor Beach as a 'local treasure', highlighting the secret pleasures of this special place, and correctly noting that 'there's a lot to gawk at, and a lot to do.' This gem of a beach is only a few minutes walk from your private cottage!! This is the beach that the locals use. It is not unusual to have the beach entirely to yourself for an early morning walk with coffee or a late evening stroll.
My family purchased this property in 1958. Kim and I took over in 2007. Fisherman's Cottage is the only property that we rent. It's a true 'Mom & Pop' business. The cottage is immediately adjacent to our home, so we have a vested interest in keeping the property in great shape. We can often be of immediate assistance if required. We are your neighbors as well as being the owners!
Barry or Kim Waddell purchased this cottage in 1958
We love York Harbor and southern Maine. We live here year 'round and we enjoy sharing all that this area has to offer with our guests.
Quiet, off the main road, but still an easy stroll to beach, river, restaurants. Perfect for couples or families with small children.
Our family thoroughly enjoyed a week's stay. The location is excellent: very short walk and you are on the beach; you are on a quiet side street (we had friends that rented a house very close to this cottage and complained about the noise, but you don't have to worry about that here!); near many of the local attractions (but not in the middle of a busy tourist strip). Our two children (10 and 13) enjoyed playing in the outdoor area. We would definitely recommend this location, whether you are looking for a comfortable place to sit back and take it easy for a week or if you are wanting to enjoy meaning of the sites Maine has to offer. We would definitely stay here again.
As the title implies, Fisherman's Cottage exceeded our expectations. It is very clean, well furnished, very cute and cozy, and comfortable. Located well off the main street it is nice and quiet. It is equipped with everything you could need. It is immediately obvious that the owners/hosts, Kim and Barry Waddel take excellent care of the property and take great pride in it. They live right next door and are incredibly welcoming and hospitable. We were able to walk to lovely protected York Harbor Beach in 5 minutes and they supplied us with a hand cart that had all the beach necessities. The very picturesque boat harbor and village center, with food, shops and historic buildings and museum, are just a 10 minute walk away. We highly recommend this rental.
Had an awesome stay thanks to Barry and Kim! So friends and accommodating. The cottage was perfect everything they we needed and beach just a walk down the street! Had so much fun. Great place to get away from the city for a weekend, super easy to get to from Boston. Plenty to see and do! Would highly recommend staying at the cottage hopefully we can get back next year!
Very relaxing two days. We enjoyed walking down to the beach, having a paddle in sea, walking the cliff path and the walk to the Wiggely Bridge. We had a nice day at The Nubble Lighthouse and the ice creams at Dunnes were huge! It was also nice just sitting outside the cottage watching the wildlife. It was a very peaceful location. The cottage had everything we needed with a bonus of a reclining couch. Barry and Kim, the owners live next door and are very friendly and helpful. We would love to go back some day soon.
We are just back from a weekend stay at Fisherman's Cottage. Kim and Barry are wonderful and have made this cottage inviting and cozy. You'll have everything you need when you stay here. There are many local attractions within walking distance - we loved the Cliff Walk, the Wiggly Bridge, and the Ship's Cellar Pub!
Barry and Kim have a lovely home that is clean, comfortable and amply stocked with high quality kitchen supplies. They were wonderful hosts - kind and accomodating. The house is located in a perfect spot in walking distance to the ocean, retaurants and shops. We had a lovely retreat weekend and will definitely be coming back!
